Shake It Up with Luis Conte's Signature Meinl Shakers

Meinl's Luis Conte Artist Series Shakers are designed to master percussionist Luis Conte's exacting requirements. "Smooth as silk," as Luis describes it, this Live shaker falls somewhere in the middle, output-wise, of a trio that also includes Studio (soft) and Stadium (loud) variants. Each model delivers tasty percussive colors that blend and cut simultaneously, responding beautifully at all dynamics. Take it from the percussionists at Sweetwater: whether you're playing a session date, a miked set, or an unplugged gig with a cajon, you won't want to be without your Meinl Percussion Luis Conte Artist Series Shaker. In fact, once you try one, you may want to invest in the whole set.

Reviews

The best shaker on the market
What I say in the title is not an exaggeration. Actually, in terms of its materials and finish, it is quite well made and designed. It should also be noted that its sound is unique and quite useful in terms of Latin music and jazz, it works for everything you can imagine.
Music background: Drummer and saxophonist.
Excellent for recording or low-volume acoustic gigs
I was looking for a shaker to use for recording. Not having access to shakers to try out, I resorted to online videos and reviews. Some of the shakers I listened to were a bit harsh, sounding more like maracas. I wanted something with a softer sound (sand vs. beads). The reviews of the Black (Medium Soft) Meinl Luis Conte shaker convinced me to give it a try. It was on backorder from Sweetwater but their online system allowed me to request notification when it became available. I eventually received an email and purchased it right away. This is exactly what I was hoping for from a shaker. The sound fits nicely into the background without being intrusive or overly loud/harsh. I could see using it for low-level acoustic gigs. For amplified music, I would likely go with a different model.
Rhythm without clash
If you can"t hear this shaker before you buy-that is why I write this review. I am a drummer but do some gigs with a Cajon and wanted a shaker that wasn"t overpowering yet still had some crisp to it. I played this first and tried the others however for all around I love this one. (I have used a lot of shakers-for some studio work you might want the loudest (cleanest) of this series). For live in a room keeping a steady rhythm this is on par. I love it.

Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On!
Light weight, balanced and great sound when recorded. Luis knows. I like em.

Thanks Sweetwater.
