Seymour Duncan Pickups - It's all about tone!

As you'd expect, the Dimebucker SH-13 from Seymour Duncan offers the same kind of ultra-high output that makes conjuring face-melting metal tones that it's namesake was famous for. In case you haven't guessed, that namesake would be "Dimebag" Darrell, the Texas guitarist that rose to fame providing the riffage for metal legends Pantera, and later Damageplan, and the Dimebucker SH-13 has that aggressive tone in spades. And speaking of tone, the blade-style design keeps the tone consistent through the most devastating bends. Fore pure metal, it's the Dimebucker SH-13.

Seymour Duncan Dimebucker SH-13 at a Glance:
  • Sound
  • Complete setup

Sound
The Dimebucker uses a powerful ceramic magnet coupled with stainless steel blades for hard-hitting crunch. The SH-13 has both high d.c. resistance and a high resonant peak. The result is a high-output, aggressive humbucker with more treble bite and clarity than an SH-8 Invader, as well as punchy bass response and exceptional dynamics. The blades make the Dimebucker great for balanced bends. The SH-13 Dimebucker comes with four-conductor hookup cable and its own form-fitting mounting ring.

Complete setup
For searing leads, the Dimebucker SH-13 is a perfect fit in the bridge position. Dimebag complemented the Dimebucker by using a '59 Model in the neck for P.A.F. tones. The Dimebucker is suitable for use in any instrument, as the double blades make this pickup suitable for both humbucker and Trembucker string spacings. This metal maniac comes in any color you like - as long as it's black!

Reviews

Look and sound great
Was super easy to install, also it looks so badass! Carries such a sick tone too!
Glad Sweetwater could "spare" THIS "DIME"!!
The old EMGs in my vintage ESP "the Mirage Deluxe" just weren't inspiring me in the way that the modern 81/85 setup in my LTD M-400 were/are; so I thought the "Dimebucker" might be an interesting choice for the bridge position. The big question was: Would it be an exact "no-mod" fit for the old 81? In short, the answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!
I decided to pair it with a Duncan STK-S7 Vintage Hot Stack Plus in the neck position (a virtual "no-mod" fit for the SA it replaced...check out my review of this pickup for details).
I wired it according to Duncan's recommendation for "single volume and tone control and three-way selector switch"; which is the standard setup the guitar came with.
As far as the "Sweetwater Advertised Performance" of these pickups, I will say that the description really very accurately describes the reality! Not easy to do; so their evaluators obviously know their stuff...which translates to real trust when it comes to making an informed purchase. I am VERY happy with the result!
To my ear, the SH-13 is tonally similar enough to the 81, with a more "scooped" EQ profile and a bit more volume for both lows AND highs. And all of this WITHOUT the battery!
Compared to the JB Trembuckers I have in other SuperStrats (or the Alnico V Burstbucker in my L/P) the SH-13 is definitely LESS "drivey"; I didn't expect this, but it's not a bad thing either, as it just makes the pickup more versatile. You WILL need a dedicated "overdrive" control, multi-channel amp, or a drive pedal to fully explore the "hi-gain" possibilities of this pickup, though.
In any event, I can highly recommend the SH-13 as a worthy "flavor"...as it does "clean", it "rocks" AND it "shreds" like no other pickup out there!

Thanks again to Joe Donner and his crew for getting it out to me in "pronto" fashion!

Far Beyond Krunchy!
Installed in my Ibanez S5470 Prestige. Totally heavy, crunchy, powerful pick up. It just jams, man. Love it, getcha pull !!!
Warlock Bridge
I put this in my 2005 Warlock Platinum Pro, bridge position. Original pups were way muddy and had no bite whatsoever. Paired with a DiMarzio super distortion II in the neck and now my axe breathes FIRE!! Be warned though! This pickup has a molded plastic housing for the screw holes, and if you mess up the housing will break, leaving you with a pup bouncing around in your guitar. This is the 2nd one I have had in my guitar, and at $110 it is costly to replace....taking one star off.
Music background: I suck
This thing rips
although its meant to be used in the bridge position, i installed the dimebucker in the neck position of my lp standard, and i pretty much only use it for leads. the tightened (less) low end, along with the boosted treble and upper mids make this a real screamer. the pick attack of the dimebucker sounds like a machine gun when trem picking on the treble strings. definitely reccommend. if youre bold, try it in the neck position like i did, you wont regret it. also does gorgeous sparkling cleans when you split it in single coil mode.
