A Powerful, Tonally Rich Bass Preamp and DI

Power and tone. These attributes are what you’ll find in an Ampeg product, and the SGT-DI bass preamp pedal/DI proves this masterfully. Built with time-tested Ampeg technology, the SGT-DI sculpts your bass tone with plenty of low-down bite. The Super Grit Technology overdrive circuit sits at the heart of this monster’s beastly capabilities, featuring the iconic voices of the Ampeg SVT and B15 just waiting for sonic liberation. This preamp-meets-DI stompbox offers up a 3-band EQ to fine-tune your bass sound, with the capability for sweepable mids. But the SGT-DI takes it further by adding Ultra-Hi and 3-way Ultra-Lo switches and a variable 10:1 compressor. Perhaps the most stunning feature of the SGT-DI stompbox is Ampeg’s first IR/cabinet simulation with three classic factory cabs loaded in. Bassists at Sweetwater agree: the SGT-DI is the all-in-one bass pedal you need for arena-shaking Ampeg tone, onstage and in the studio.

Reviews

Finally a bass pedal that I can set and forget
Only used it with my TRBX305 but so far sounds amazing. Using in a worship setting and just works.
Gig machine
I have a few DI boxes (Mesa, Sansamp, Orange) and this one is absolutely the one I'm taking to every gig. You can run this into an effects return on any cab and get great tone. I've ran it through a 115, 410, and 810, thunderous on all of them. The onboard OD is good, even if you have another OD it's great for having tone options. The onboard compressor does its job, but if you have a compressor pedal you will have more control than what's onboard. The cab sims make the sound great through FOH monitors, and at home they're great for practicing through headphones without using an interface. Any person looking to get a good starting point for live shows could grab this, a tuner, a Rumble 500, and just head out with your favorite bass. This pedal is the closest you can get to Ampeg fridge tones without actually hauling the Ampeg fridge around.

SGT-DI Functionality/Sound: Amazing. Failure rate: HIGH:( Sweetwater support Amazing!!!
I've owned three of these. Now have two (feel like I need a backup so I just leave one in the practice room) They are a great sounding preamp and their functionality with aux input/level control etc. is great for practice/learning new tunes etc. That part exceeds anything else I've come across.
Power supply failure occurred in all three. One repaired under Ampeg warranty others replaced.
Sweetwater CS has by far, always exceeded my expectations. Will never purchase gear elsewhere! Thank you SW!!!
Great pedal, great Ampeg sound
Bottom line up front, cuz kinda long: I love the way this thing sounds and what it can do. Received the pedal on Monday, with a gig coming up on Saturday. Spent the week putting it through its paces in two rehearsals, and then took it to the gig, where I sent the XLR output to the board, the thru to my tuner, and the preamp-out to my little Rocket Bass combo amp to supplement the venue's anemic monitor. It pleased my ears and passed the gig test with flying colors. Everyone said I sounded great and it made the sound guy happy. Now, the details: My Ampeg SCR-DI pedal had suddenly died the week before (very bummed about that, because I really liked it), kicking off the five-day race to get this pedal ready for the show. At first I wasn't very happy with it. But later in the week, as I figured out how to dial it in, that changed. This is an upgrade in every way. The one thing it won't do that the SCR did is apply "transparent" overdrive to your sound; the SGT-DI is meant to sound like you're playing through a B15 or SVT amp, and everything is colored by that. When researching before the purchase, I saw some complaints about the SGT-DI not handling the input from particularly hot active basses well. This worried me a bit, but it handles my Stingray just fine (use the gain reduction methods the pedal provides, and you'll be okay). One caveat: the SVT circuit starts at fuzz and turns into monster distortion in nothing flat, so I'm using the B15 to get the precise degree of classic-rock overdrive my band needs. I suspect that with passive or at least not Stingray-hot pickups, you'd have cleaner cleans and more headroom before overdrive starts happening (haven't tested it on my other basses yet to verify). Final note: The key to dialing in my sound on this pedal was limiting how many things are going on at once. With the SVT/B15 switch, the EQ, the clean/SGT footswitch, and (each with their own adjustable levels) the SGT knob, compressor, and cab sim, it's easy to get lost in the sauce. Test the range of each one by itself, then add elements to your sound one at a time. Anyway, to sum up: I *love* the sound I'm getting from the SGT-DI. Very happy to have it.

Awesome!
This pedal is the most versatile one I have used. I play a P bass, getting older and looking for quality sound without lugging around that big refrigerator cabinet and the tube amp to match. Does it sound exactly like a SVT or a B15? No, but it works for me without breaking my back. Fits on my pedal board and is perfect for individual practice with headphones and MP3s. I do not even take an amp to my shows anymore. DI right to the house PA and boom....

Nick was awesome as usual, as is the support from Sweetwater sound!
Keep rocking!
