Step Up to Selmer Paris with the Axos Alto Sax

With their Axos marque, Henri Selmer Paris offers advancing players accessible entrée into the upper echelons of the saxophone world with professional-class, French-made instruments that honor the quality and tradition associated with the esteemed company. To that end, the 52 Axos alto saxophone is built in the same factory as the company’s other models, utilizing the same materials along with modern design and manufacturing techniques to produce a more affordable instrument with the trademark sound and playability one expects from a Selmer Paris saxophone. The result is a horn with fluid, ergonomic keywork, flawless intonation, and excellent response throughout the instrument’s entire range, including the altissimo register. The Selmer Paris 52 Axos alto saxophone is effortless to play in the low register and projects a round fullness in the midrange, while retaining Selmer’s signature tonal richness and projection.

Axos: an exciting new range of professional saxes

Axos saxophones are built in the Henri Selmer Paris factory in Mantes-la-Ville, France, in the same facility that has produced all Selmer Paris saxophones since 1922. As do all Selmer Paris instruments, these models carry on that heritage of fine artisanal craftsmanship while integrating modern industrial methodologies, from computer-assisted design, which facilitates mass production, to the strategic outsourcing of certain components such as keywork to trusted overseas partners. With the goal of making Selmer Paris quality attainable for more saxophonists, Axos instruments are equipped with optimized keywork for smooth playability as well as mechanical durability. It’s important to note, however, that Axos horns are made with the same high-quality metals as their Selmer Paris stablemates.

The Selmer legacy of quality and innovation

As all modern saxophone designs are based on the Selmer platform, it’s instructive to take a look at the company’s history to understand its considerable influence on the instrument as we know it today. Conservatory-trained clarinetist Henri Selmer founded Henri Selmer Paris in 1885. Fashioning reeds and mouthpieces in his small workshop, he soon took on instrument repair and modifications, which eventually let to the design and manufacture of clarinets. In 1900, Selmer opened a retail shop in New York (the beginnings of Selmer USA). In 1922, Selmer introduced its first saxophone: the Model 22. In the ensuing decades, Selmer released industry-leading designs such as the Balanced Action, Super Action, Mark VI, and Reference 54, which have set the standard for what a modern saxophone should be. Listen to any iconic jazz recording by John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Paul Desmond, (late period) Cannonball Adderley, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, Branford Marsalis, or Joshua Redman, and you will hear one of these legendary horns in action. Delivering exceptional value at every level, from student to professional, Selmer USA and Henri Selmer Paris offer a full line of woodwind and brass instruments. Sweetwater is proud to bring you Selmer’s rich legacy of quality and innovation.

Reviews

Great horn!
I bought the Axos to replace my intermediate level Jupiter rental. Let me tell you, the more I play it the more I fall in love with it. I used to struggle with getting the upper and lower notes right on my Jupiter, but Selmer Axos almost does it for you! I also wanted to say thanks to Dillon helping me get the right horn for me. I originally bought another professional sax from the them but it just did not work for me. But Sweetwater made the exchange stress free and very easy. The customer service is supreme. It is a huge advantage when you are buying an expensive and an individual tool like saxophone!
Incredible Alto Saxophone!
This is my first professional grade alto saxophone and it is so nice to play! I am just getting back into playing again after nearly 30 years post high school. I have a student-grade alto sax that I struggle to place both low and high range notes with. The Selmer Paris 52 Axos is so responsive regardless of notes I'm playing. The craftsmanship is exactly what you would expect from Selmer Paris. I'm so pleased with my purchase and also for the customer service I receive everytime I am at Sweetwater!
Music background: I played alto and tenor saxophones in middle school and high school growing up. I just enjoy being a novice!
Playing selmers for years
This is a great sax. Blows and feels like the old Mark's top me. Very quick action with the keys. Love the horn, I've been playing over 50 years. Jim
Plays like a dream
After decades of playing student models it is such a joy to be playing this horn. There is no struggle to play notes at the bottom of the instrument's range nor to play in the altissimo range. It's also very responsive to my embouchure and breath. I'm very happy I made the leap up to this model of saxophone.
Music background: B.A. in jazz/commercial music. Been playing saxophone since the early 1980s. I play multiple instruments but saxophone is the one I'm best at even though usually play guitar, mandolin, and sing when I gig.
