An All-sapele Entry into Martin’s Cutting-edge SC Series

Martin’s Road Series SC-10E Modern Sapele combines Martin’s innovative SC series of acoustic-electric guitars with one of the company’s oldest traditions: professional-grade, hardwood-topped instruments for the working musician. The SC-10E Modern Sapele starts with the foundation established by its SC series predecessors, including a Sure Align neck system, 13-fret neck joint, and comfortable asymmetrical body shape. However, instead of a standard spruce top, the SC-10E's all-sapele body harkens back to Martin’s hardwood-topped instruments from the early 20th century, offering a more mellow and laid-back response. The SC-10E's neck mirrors the old-meets-new sentiment established by the body, with an ultra-ergonomic Low Profile Velocity select hardwood neck and a matching fingerboard. Rounded out by Martin E1 electronics, the SC-10E Modern Sapele is a performance-minded entryway into the cutting-edge Martin SC series.

A nod to Martin’s hardwood-topped 6-string classics

From the top to the back to the sides, the Martin SC-10E Modern Sapele body boasts a pure sapele construction. What does it sound like in comparison to its spruce-topped SC series siblings? Sapele sports a sound that comes remarkably close to traditional mahogany, but with just a touch more brightness and projection, as it’s a far stiffer wood. Still, the SC-10E Modern Sapele's tone very much lies in the time-honored tradition of hardwood-topped Martin guitars — models that are particularly favored by Sweetwater’s fingerpickers and singer/songwriters for their mellow, smoky vibe and tendency to enhance vocals without overwhelming them.

Removes the limitations of the conventional cutaway acoustic

Playing an SC series Martin is a unique yet comfortably familiar experience. Its offset S-shaped body fits you like a glove while providing balanced output and effective feedback rejection. Moreover, the Low Profile Velocity neck shape allows for helical hand rotation to ensure that every hand position feels relaxed and natural. No matter what you’re playing — cowboy chords, jazz shapes, or rapid-fire leads — the SC-10E makes it effortless.

Onboard E1 electronics

Onboard Martin E1 electronics let you quickly connect to your favorite acoustic amp, recording interface, or even house PA systems at venues. Musicians at Sweetwater are impressed with the E1 system’s Tone, Volume, and Phase-reverse controls, which let you faithfully amplify your SC-10E Modern Sapele's richness and warmth while shaping sound quality to taste. The E1’s Phase-reverse button is especially convenient for eliminating prickly feedback in tight spaces when standing near your amp is unavoidable. What’s more, the E1 system features a built-in tuner. You can tune up without any cable connections, so tuning breaks onstage and on the couch are equally easy. With onboard electronics this good, you’ll feel confident the SC-10E is equipped for anything.

Martin Road Series SC-10E Modern Sapele Features:

  • Asymmetrical SC series body provides unmatched playing comfort both seated and standing
  • All-sapele body provides a mellower and more midrange-focused response than standard spruce-topped Martin guitars
  • Tone Tension X-bracing provides a touch of Martin’s iconic bass-forward boom
  • Select hardwood neck with a matching fingerboard carved into an ultra-high-performance Low Profile Velocity profile, giving you electric-guitar-like playability
  • 1.75-in. nut width offers more than enough room for fingerpickers while still remaining slim enough for flatpickers
  • Deep cutaway, 13th-fret neck joint, and Sure Align neck system make playing in the upper register a breeze
  • Martin E1 electronics to take on the stage or record straight in
  • Incredibly reliable closed-gear tuners

Reviews

Bang of the Buck!
Got it on the same day I had a gig.
Minor quick adjustments for my taste, and I was ready to go!
Plug and Play - easy breezy - excellent gigging guitar!
I dig the all-wood construction.
Pickup sounds fine and balanced.
Tuner works great.
Hard to beat at this price point.
Over time, I will probably adjust the shims and sand down the saddle a bit.
I play leads on this guitar, so the lower action helps a lot.
Even without those adjustments, if someone handed me this guitar before a show, I would be 100% comfortable with it.
This is the 1st Martin I've been interested in. I love the shape and feel of the guitar. It feels like a Taylor. A little to plain for me and the strings were dead. (They felt like they were ten years old) I'm looking forward to playing the nicer model with some decent strings. It's nice to see Martin attempting to appeal to a different set of acoustic guitar players.
