Packed with Premium USA-made PRS Pickups

Equipped with the same USA-made pickups found on PRS’s world-class Core line instruments, the PRS S2 McCarty 594 blends top-shelf PRS tone with the S2 Series’ elegantly understated aesthetics. Borrowing from the time-tested McCarty 594 tradition, this guitar boasts a maple-topped mahogany body that supplies all the chewy midrange and treble bite you could ever ask for. Old-school 6-string fanatics will be sure to favor the slightly chunky feel of the mahogany neck’s Pattern Vintage profile, while the sleek 10-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard proudly displays PRS’s iconic Birds inlays. Every PRS instrument that rolls through Sweetwater’s doors unerringly comes equipped with supremely reliable hardware. Thus, it’s no surprise the S2 McCarty 594’s PRS proprietary vintage-style tuning machines and 2-piece stoptail bridge ensure your setup remains lock tight. Still, the true cherry on top lies in this guitar’s USA-made dual 58/15 LT pickups — extraordinarily dynamic vintage-voiced humbuckers that fuel the refined tones of PRS’s ultra-premium Core guitars and Private Stock masterpieces.

Chunky Pattern Vintage neck profile

This guitar’s Pattern Vintage profile clocks in on the chunkier side of the spectrum, featuring a distinct asymmetrical profile that conforms to your grip, from the base all the way to the neck joint. While it’s a thicker shape, it’s by no means clunky — Sweetwater guitarists across all styles have come to favor the Pattern Vintage profile for its comfortably full feel. Combined with the PRS S2 McCarty 594’s slightly shorter 24.594-inch scale length, this guitar brandishes a decidedly old-school flavor that’s all but guaranteed to resonate with vintage 6-string enthusiasts.

Dual-coil power, single-coil clarity

Rooted in the past with an eye toward the future, PRS 58/15 LT humbuckers perfectly capture the dual-coil magic of a late ’50s humbucker, then enhance it with all the benefits of modern construction. The result? A pickup with focused mids, balanced lows and highs, and unmatched clarity. In a nutshell, it’s a sound that’s equal parts classic humbucker warmth and stunning single-coil snap. What’s more, this iteration of the 58/15 sports an LT (low turn) wind for a slightly more vintage feel than the standard version, lowering the output to provide an open and resonant tone.

Straight out of Stevensville, Maryland

In 2013, PRS launched the S2 series. Designed as workhorse guitars for the modern musician, this line of instruments offered American-made PRS quality with a non-nonsense feature set. The PRS S2 McCarty 594 elevates the S2 series far beyond its already impressive beginnings, sporting the same USA-made humbucking pickups found on PRS Core line and Private Stock instruments. The result is a genuinely uncompromising sonic masterpiece that proudly brandishes the traditional pared-back visuals of the S2 series but harbors the same expressive tone as PRS’s most premium offerings.

PRS S2 McCarty 594 Features:

  • Equipped with the same USA-made 58/15 LT vintage-style humbuckers found in PRS’s Core line and Private Stock program instruments
  • Time-tested tonewood combo of a mahogany body and a maple top grants rich midrange warmth and clearly defined trebles
  • Full-feeling mahogany Pattern Vintage neck profile
  • Highly playable 10-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard studded with iconic PRS Birds inlays
  • Sustain-enhancing PRS 2-piece bridge represents the peak of 6-string stability
  • Incredibly stable PRS vintage-style tuners
  • Push-pull pots unlock singing single-coil sounds to complement the depth of the 58/15 LT’s old-school humbucking warmth

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Wow
I've owned multiple PRS SE guitars (SE, Custom, Silver Sky) and they are all fantastic. After the 2024 changes to the S2 line I decided to try out the next level up and see if it was worth over double the cost of an SE. I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of the instrument, the feel, the look - etc. Plays excellent and it came absolutely flawless from Sweetwater. This is why I keep coming back to Sweetwater, excellent customer service (before and after the sale) and fair prices. As to whether this guitar is worth over double my SE guitars - I can't say whether that is true for everyone or not but I can say that it is definitely a step up to another level even though I have always felt my SE's were phenomenal guitars.
Great guitar!
I've played many different guitars over the years- fenders, gibsons, danelectro, ricks, reverends…, this is one of the most player - friendly guitars I've ever strummed! And to cap it all off it's gorgeous, a work of art! PRS is making some great guitars- buy one!
Amazing
I have several PRS SE guitars (DGT, SilverSky, and Custom) and wanted to try an S2 and see if it was "worth" the extra cost. Yes. The answer is yes. I bought the Dark Cherry Sunburst and it's absolutely beautiful. You can definitely feel the difference between an S2 and an SE - and I LOVE my SE guitars but this is just another level up and worth the cost if you can afford it. Love pickups - and I use the coil tap on the neck all the time.
Great Playing Guitar

I purchased this guitar new from my local guitar shop. I sent it to our local Luthier for a set up. He was surprised that this guitar came from the factory in the shape it did. He reworked the frets and bridge to make it more playable. It plays great now. However, my lower rating comes from the pickups. The bridge pickup is horrible. First gig out with the guitar and I had a squealing coming from the guitar for my classic rock tones. I have since bought a Gibson Classic 57 pickup to replace the stock pickup. This is my 4th PRS guitar, and I have replaced all the bridge pickups along the way. They are way too muddy for my liking. I can see having to upgrade items on an SE PRS, but not the American made ones. If you don't mind putting extra bucks to upgrade a $ guitar, this one's for you.

Surprisingly disappointed...
I recently bought a new 2026 PRS S2 McCarty 594 from Sweetwater but I decided to return it. Hats off to Sweetwater for their no-hassle return policy. My Sweetwater sales engineer Louis is great to work with. There was a defect in the pickup switch where it made a static/crackling noise if I brushed or touched the screws of the back cover of the toggle switch. Probably a grounding problem. Really annoying. I was going to get it fixed (at no charge to me; Thanks Sweetwater!) but I think the PRS strings on the guitar were too flexible as well. If I pressed down a little too hard on any of the strings, the note went sharp. Playing open chords or barre chords sounded like crap. That isn't the case for all my other guitars. Perhaps getting new strings would resolve it. The last straw was the pickups themselves. They sounded too muddy even with the split coil on. Perhaps the guitar would be good for heavier distorted riffs and dirty leads but it lacked the clarity of a Strat. It is a shame because it was a beautiful looking guitar. So, I exchanged it for a Yamaha Revstar. Still waiting for it to arrive but fingers crossed.

You don't even have to play guitar to know that PRS instruments are in a league of their own. With their exquisitely figured tops and premium appointments, each PRS is a playable work of art. But it goes way deeper than the surface. Every time Paul visits Sweetwater, we get a deeper look at his amazing instruments. We've even hosted several PRS Custom Shop events, complete with Paul's personal Wood Library! Whether they're his most affordable SE electric guitars, top-quality acoustics, or amps, it's always amazing to see what PRS comes up with. What's more, we keep a ton of PRS guitars in our amazing Guitar Showroom, so the staff at Sweetwater can get hands on with all of their latest models. We'd love to tell you all about them.
