Revv D20: Killer Amp Head with Embedded Two Notes Tech

Think you need a cabinet to achieve an awesome miked-cab tone? Not if you’re playing through a Revv D20 amp head. Make no mistake, the Revv D20 is an all-tube amp head — with glowing-hot 6V6s and 12AX7s to prove it — but thanks to embedded reactive load and virtual cabinet tech from Two Notes, the cab is optional. You get all the usual character shaping, including a 3-band EQ, Volume and Gain controls, along with a push-pull gain pot for a crunchier voicing and a power-reduction circuit to attain cranked-amp sounds at lower volumes. A buffered series FX loop sweetens the pot. The Revv D20 is an amp with tons of modern features, but at the end of the day, it’s just a great-sounding amp — take it for a test drive, and you’ll agree.

Embedded Two Notes tech for cab-free rocking

With just the Revv D20 and a PA, you have everything you need to obtain a larger-than-life miked-cab tone. Built-in technology from the cabinet-emulation masters at Two Notes provides you with six customizable virtual cabinets selectable via the amp’s front panel. If that’s not enough for you, you can access up to 128 via MIDI as well. You can use the Revv D20’s 6V6-loaded power amp or bypass it and change the amp’s character with a simulated power section. KT66s? 6L6s? EL84s? EL34s? The options are endless! Best of all, Revv D20 is a complete standalone solution — a reactive load automatically engages when a speaker isn’t present to safeguard your amp. Whether you go direct to FOH, an audio interface, or headphones, the D20 delivers awesome tone.

Plenty of player-friendly features on the Revv D20

The Revv D20 is loaded with everything a guitarist could want. A 3-band EQ, and Volume and Gain controls give you tons of basic sound shaping. Want something a bit rowdier? A push-pull gain pot gives the Revv D20 a crunchier voice. A power-reduction circuit enables you to nail cranked tones at appropriate volume levels. A buffered series FX loop makes integrating your pedals and other external effects a piece of cake. The Revv D20 plays well with a variety of cabinets, thanks to a switchable 4/8-ohm speaker jack. You also get an easily accessible bias test and fuse.

Killer tube tones developed with Nashville session guitarists

It’s easy to get distracted by the Revv D20’s endless bells and whistles, but even without its modern feature set, it’s a killer amp. And it should be — its tones were dialed in by Nashville session pros. At Sweetwater, we bypassed all the embedded tech and cranked it up, and everyone agreed that it’s a winner. Its clean tones are warm and inspiring, and they make a top-notch platform for gain pedals. Its crunch tones are bluesy and gritty, and when hot-rodded with an overdrive, downright raging. And the Revv D20's straightforward front-panel controls give you a lot of tonal space to maneuver in.

Revv D20 Tube Amp Head Features:

  • 20/4W all-tube guitar amp head
  • Built-in technology from the cabinet-emulation masters at Two Notes
  • 6 customizable virtual cabinets selectable via the front panel (128 via MIDI)
  • Bypass the tube power amp and replace it with a simulated power section
  • Reactive load automatically engages when a speaker isn’t present to safeguard the amp
  • 3-band EQ and Volume and Gain controls offer straightforward tone shaping
  • Push-pull gain pot for a crunchier voicing
  • Power-reduction circuit nails cranked tones at appropriate volume levels
  • Buffered series FX loop makes integrating pedals and external effects easy
  • Switchable 4-/8-ohm speaker jack plays nice with a variety of cabinets
  • Easily accessible bias test and fuse
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:

Reviews

Small amp, BIG sound!
When I learned about the D20, I knew I had to get one. It was the product I was wanting but hadn't found. Excellent quality, sound and features. I then went further and got a G2 and G3 to go along with it. Pure bliss! Thanks Revv for these great products!
Nice pedal platform that's great for small to medium gigs.
I bought the D20 to use as a plain old head with a cab in the 2 rock cover bands I play in. I was looking for something that was light and portable, took pedals well, and could get a little hair on its own since I prefer using pedals with the amp already starting to break up a bit. In that regard the D20 performs wonderfully. I can't really speak with any authority comparing it to other amps, it just sounds good to me and that's all I care about. I have seen some people asking on forums if it's loud enough to gig with on its own, and for me the answer is yes. Paired with a 2x12 it has enough power to stand out in a 4 piece band with enough left in the tank to allow a clean boost in the loop to push my solos over the mix. 20 tube watts is plenty loud for most bar gigs, and if you need more the embedded TwoNotes sounds really good. I've only used that at home so far but I had great results in Logic.

I don't really have any complaints about the amp. It sounds good on its own and with all the various drive pedals I've put in front of it, it's very light and easy to carry, and the built in TwoNotes could be a game changer for some. My only advice would be make sure you have an efficient speaker cab to get the most out of the amp. You can run 16 ohm cabs as an 'acceptable mismatch', but it really likes 4 and 8 ohm cabs best and you will likely get a little more volume out of them vs 16.

Once again my SE Michael Berry did not steer me wrong. I'm really happy with my purchase!
Music background: 60 years old and still gigging and running around with a guitar like an idiot, and loving every minute of it! You only live once so rock till you drop!
Great little amp!
Great pedal platform, use it for rehearsals and gigs. Mostly use it Direct out to front of house but sounds great through my marshall 4x12 or my revv 1x12 cabinet.
Cant go wrong with this one. In the 3 bands i play with, i can get country to metal sounds easily with pedals, two notes built in direct out/ and a effects loop. Its all i need !
Music background: Gigging player
To All "Praise and Worship" Guitarists: This is the Amp of the year for you.
I'm a worship guitarist that plays in multiple churches. I've been through your run of amps in the past: Fender Princeton Reverbs, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III's and IV's, Supro's, a Bugera V22, an Avid Eleven Rack, etc.

The Revv D20 is the zenith. I've reached the top. It's the ultimate pedal-platform amp. It excels in providing a beautiful clean tone. The pull-out gain knob makes it thicker and meatier, a treat for single coils. I paired it with the Revv 1x12 cab and it is a great match.
I run a dual-mono signal to the front by having a SM57 on the Revv cab for one signal, and then I have another signal coming from the DI out on the Revv that is putting out an IR of a Badcat 2x12. What a mix! I've never sounded this good.
The buffered effects loop takes my Strymon Timeline, Free The Tone AS-1R Ambi-Space Reverb, and Walrus Audio Julia Chorus. Those pedals have never sounded so clear.

And if you're worried about stage volume, you can knock this thing down to 4 watts (from 20 watts), and even just use the DI out with the Two-Notes software and you'll still be giving a world-class tone to the FOH.
Everything I've ever needed as a worship guitarist is in this amp.
Music background: Electric Guitar, Bass, Drums
Even Better Than I’d Hoped
This was a bit of an impulse buy for me, but I couldn't be happier with it. The D20 has a lot of character in the clean tone, and it takes pedals fabulously well. The pull pot on the gain control adds some nice grit, particularly when you dig in. The only flaw I've seen in this amp is that it gets a little bit fizzy when you push the preamp gain to max, but if you need that much gain you will probably be wanting to use an overdrive pedal in front of the amp anyways.

As far as the features go, the effects loop is silent, the Two Notes integration works incredibly well, and the headphone out works great for silent play.

Bottom line - this is the perfect "2020/Covid" home studio or bedroom pedal platform amp.
