What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Totally worth the price.

Pros:
-Decent Sound
-Linking via mini jack option
-Suits most spaces and Rooms
-Inexpensive
-Great Construction
-Well Designed
-Long Lifespan
-Great Overall Features

Cons:
-After about 6 years of heavy abuse one of the monitors now does a mild low hum, the other remains dead silent which is great, that being said the problem perhaps could be solved connecting to a Power supply that ensures clean power or maybe a ground solution.
-They are bit bassy to my taste. (I like dead neutral) but this could be something you are looking for.

Final Thoughts: I would recommend this pair for the money, they should last you a long time, mine have about 8 years and still function. and I have beat them to death.

For the price... good luck finding better

These are used as my reference monitors and they're the perfect size for the use. Solid build quality and very surprising crisp yet natural sound. I have these paired with my presonus sceptre 6.5 with the temblor 10 sub. Despite being my references these sound really good for the price and have all kinds of connectivity options. I even was using these in my home theater with the aux link until I upgraded to the 802's. Fun cheap speaker with good power, glad sweetwater started carrying this brand. I no longer need guitar center for anything:) shout out to Brandt Miller, best sales engineer.

Not to be overlooked! Incredible Value

My first impression was the solid build and great design. They have some weight to them which helps solidify the low end sounds...which they do have just not an abundance of below 60-65 but it's there and it's solid. The highs are nice and crisp without to much sizzle. It nicely tames a Roland TR606 snare which is wildly crispy. The mids sit slightly back which separates it from other brands that push the mids slightly forward. I find this gives more depth to the stereo image .. it depends on genre HipHop, House and Techno work well.. I also think vocals with some mastered compression would shine like a diamond with these monitors. I also have to confess that I got them for half price on Black Friday making them an absolute bargain.

Picks up electrical interference more than other monitors

First off, the audio levels are good. Not superb, but they do crank up and let you hear everything. The form factor size is ideal for desktops or placement on a stand.

However, the amount of electrical hum when the speakers are not having sound directed to them is annoying and really a bad features. It's a 'thump-buzz-thump-buzz-thump' type of sound. I plugged them into a Furman M-8Dx power conditioner and that got rid of most of the sound for about 4 days, then the original levels came back.

I tried putting the speakers on monitor pads. No change. I made sure the wires didn't touch or go near other electrical wires. No change. I've submitted customer support tickets at Tannoy's website, which is not a very efficient process, but they do tend to get back to me in a day or two. It's just that we havent been able to resolve the issue.

Lest you think this is an electrical problem on my end. I have Yamaha HS8 monitors on the same electrical circuit and they are silent. No hum or interference at all. I also have a $200 pair of CreativeLab speakers that don't have hum or intereference, so it's the Tannoy that is the issue.

By the way, the Yamaha HS8 are fantastic monitors.
