Pristine Looks. Vintage Strat Tone.

Great for surf, as well as rock, country, and blues, Seymour Duncan’s Retrospec’d Antiquity II Surfer Strat pickup delivers the bright, punchy tones you’d expect from a vintage Stratocaster single-coil, but with a non-aged look that’s tailor-made for modern instruments. This pup boasts RW/RP operation, yielding a glorious hum-free cluck in positions 2 and 4. Seymour Duncan’s Retrospec’d Antiquity II Surfer Strat pickup includes vintage-correct blue/yellow cloth pushback lead wire and light gray bottom flatwork, and has been wax potted for squeal-free performance.

Retrospec’d — brand-new cosmetics with spot-on vintage tone

Ever since the 1990s, Seymour Duncan’s Antiquity line has been the go-to replacement pickup for vintage and relic’d guitars. A number of us here at Sweetwater have dropped a set of Antiquities into our prized classics, as the aged look, tone, and response of these pickups are a perfect match for vintage-style instruments. And why is that? Well, Seymour Duncan has been in the business for a long time, with a 40-plus-year archive of pickup designs to draw from. That’s why Antiquities are so spot on. Retrospec’d Antiquity pickups exhibit a sound and performance that’s identical to their predecessors, but they eschew the aged appearance for a pristine, brand-new look that’s a perfect cosmetic match for your modern guitar.

Seymour Duncan Retrospec'd Antiquity II Surfer Strat Pickup Features:

  • RW/RP operation yields a glorious hum-free cluck in positions 2 and 4

Reviews

Buyer Beware! RWRP is a context thing and doesn't really capture 60's surf, either
This pickup is only RWRP within the context of a full set of SD Antiquity pickups. This turns out to not match Fender stock pickups. I sought compatibility advice from SD customer support before purchase and they got it wrong. And worse yet, once I received the pickup and pointed out the incorrect information (even attaching their original email response), the SD customer service agent, Dennis Russell, refused to admit he had made a mistake. Hard to get good help these days, I guess... To set the record straight... the magnets are north up and pickup is wound clockwise. Ended up having to wire it backwards to keep in phase with the stock pickups. The pickup is much higher gain than stock Fender pickups. Had to position further away from the strings to balance with the others. The pickup has too much mid emphasis for the 60's surf vibe, almost darker than the neck pickup. In summary... it's just OK.
