For Those Prepared to Rock — Celestion Salutes You

If you're looking for extreme power handling but refuse to compromise on great tone, the Celestion Redback 12" guitar speaker is for you. Rated at 150 watts, the Redback features a supersized 2-inch voice coil and utilizes a massive G12 magnet. The result is a guitar speaker that is 100% Celestion in character but is primed to withstand a drubbing from a 100-watt head all by itself — and still come back for more. With a tight, well-controlled low end, detailed midrange, and more relaxed treble, Celestion’s engineering expertise has produced a truly high-power guitar speaker that can still deliver balance, responsiveness, and superb playability. Sweetwater amp gurus love it! NOTE: Speakers are non-returnable.

Celestion Redback 8-ohm 12" Guitar Speaker Features:

  • Humongous 2" voice coil with massive G12 magnet will make you mad with power
  • Frequency range of 70Hz–5kHz reproduces every nuance of your sound
  • Rated at an impressive 150 watts to handle any signal you can throw at it
  • Puts out a tight, focused low-end punch and a detailed midrange with sweet highs

Bought as a replacement speaker
I use my old mustang 3 amp's effects loop return with my fractal fm9 mk2 turbo. So, I am only using the power amp section of the amp that doesn't color the tone. The mustang had a celestion in it but was a little thin sounding, the red back thickened up the tone really well without coloring it. Great Speaker, oh I purchased the 8-ohm speaker.

Great in small cabs
I added this to a small homemade 1x12 cab. I didn't know what to expect for sure, but was looking for a compact package to run a Mesa JP2C head with instead of always dragging a 4x12 out and still using a mic. It's obviously not the low end of a big cab but pretty impressive the amount of low end it makes and the rounded off highs is exactly what I prefer to set in a mix smoother. It's not a beautiful cab to look at but the sound is incredible to me.
Best of both worlds.
I have always used Fender amps with old Celestion in them, mostly 25 watt Greenbacks. The Redback came in my amp as a "special edition" and at first I was skeptical. After about a month of trying to break it in, I finally put it in the vocal booth and covered it with a foam filled box and plugged a stereo into it playing "Gaslighting Abbey" at a decent volume and went into Dallas for the weekend. It's nice a loose now and has the punchy low end. Be prepared to loosen up a suspension designed to handle a constant 150watts!! Now its great! It has that punchy low thump when dirty and yet has increased the Helena headroom of my amp (Fender '68 CDR Custom Deluxe) If you have ever liked an old Gauss 12M, you would like this speaker.

Excellent Drivers
I had a really hard time taking out my Jensen C12K speakers. They're still in pristine shape and I love their sound. These Celestion Redback speakers, however, are exceptional, and they're really loud (not that I needed that). With my Twin volume on 3 or above they're deafeningly loud - but still sound great. My biggest concern was that they'd be too muffled and would lack enough highs. Most of the online demos are of scooped metal setups, or they're room mic'd and offer no real sense of the speaker quality. I've had T-75, Blue alnico, Eminence, Jensen, EV SRO and some others, but the Redbacks appear to be really versatile. I'd rate them with the best speakers I've had access to. They're linear enough for Fender "clean" and stout enough for most any style of rock/grunge you wanna throw at them, and sound good doing it.

Thank you to Sweetwater for super fast service!
My favorite speakers
Actually, the Redback and one other speaker are tied for my favorite. But I have been using Celestion Redbacks for a few years now and absolutely love their sound. The fact that each speaker can handle 150 watts also makes it perfect for high-powered combo amps. The high end is rolled off, but still has amazing clarity. The bottom is full without being flubby. It's nearly the perfect speaker.
