Great in small cabs

I added this to a small homemade 1x12 cab. I didn't know what to expect for sure, but was looking for a compact package to run a Mesa JP2C head with instead of always dragging a 4x12 out and still using a mic. It's obviously not the low end of a big cab but pretty impressive the amount of low end it makes and the rounded off highs is exactly what I prefer to set in a mix smoother. It's not a beautiful cab to look at but the sound is incredible to me.

Best of both worlds.

I have always used Fender amps with old Celestion in them, mostly 25 watt Greenbacks. The Redback came in my amp as a "special edition" and at first I was skeptical. After about a month of trying to break it in, I finally put it in the vocal booth and covered it with a foam filled box and plugged a stereo into it playing "Gaslighting Abbey" at a decent volume and went into Dallas for the weekend. It's nice a loose now and has the punchy low end. Be prepared to loosen up a suspension designed to handle a constant 150watts!! Now its great! It has that punchy low thump when dirty and yet has increased the Helena headroom of my amp (Fender '68 CDR Custom Deluxe) If you have ever liked an old Gauss 12M, you would like this speaker.

My favorite speakers

Actually, the Redback and one other speaker are tied for my favorite. But I have been using Celestion Redbacks for a few years now and absolutely love their sound. The fact that each speaker can handle 150 watts also makes it perfect for high-powered combo amps. The high end is rolled off, but still has amazing clarity. The bottom is full without being flubby. It's nearly the perfect speaker.

Celstion red back 12

An amazing powerhouse of a speaker I used as a replacement speaker for a tube amp 112 that I am now going to buy another for a 112 cabinet. Great tone if your going for a lower end sound that won't break up or sound like your about to blow the speaker.

Music background: Been playing guitar at tinkering for 30 years

One of my favorite Celestions

Online demos don't do this speaker justice. It's got less sizzle on top than a lot of other Celestions, but it's not dark. Great clarity, and distortion is smooth and well-defined. Great speaker!
