Smart Monitor Controller for Dante

Connect the Focusrite RedNet R1 desktop remote controller to your audio network with its included Cat 6 Ethernet cable for full control over your Red audio interfaces. Select, combine, and switch your signal signals from any combination of inputs and outputs on the network. Control large speaker arrays from a single remote controller. Monitor signals anywhere on the network with its built-in headphone output. You can even communicate with other rooms in your facility with the RedNet R1’s built-in talkback mic. Complete with a vibrant color display for comprehensive level metering, the Focusrite RedNet R1 gives you the remote control capabilities you need in a professional environment.

Convenient remote control for your RedNet network

Because you’ll be using the RedNet R1 as a component of a large-scale system, Focusrite makes it easy for you to control and re-route signals via a simple software control panel. No matter where you are in your facility, you’ll have complete control over every Red device connected to that network. Whether you need to adjust the input level on a remote device, re-route multiple signals across your facility, manage a large loudspeaker rig, or communicate across the network with its built-in talkback mic, Sweetwater can highly recommend the RedNet R1 for comprehensive remote control.

Focusrite RedNet R1 Desktop Remote Control Features:

  • Desktop monitor controller for Red interfaces
  • Manage devices and signal routing remotely across your entire network
  • Communicate remotely with the built-in talkback mic, or your preferred external talkback mic
  • Can be powered via PoE; 12V DC power supply also included

Reviews

Works for us...
We've got multiple rooms using Red4 Pre, initially to connect with out Avid cards, but have since lost ALL AVID HARDWARE and won't look back. The combo of the Red4 and R1 is an AMAZING tool, allowing me to switch between multiple monitoring setups, including 3.1, 5.1, monitoring what other rooms are doing, as well as talkback between control rooms. Once it's setup, if you sit and think about ANYTHING you'd like to do with it, it is possible. Our facility is now entirely Dante, including multiple Focusrite I/O and a 48 fader SSL System T S500 desk... everything works!

Rednet R1
If I can get it to consistently retain the settings after I have turned it off and on, it would be great. When I get it to reset to my last settings, it work as expected. I'm still trying to determine if unit I have is defective or not.
Great controller for post work
I've had this for almost a year now in my home post production studio. Physically I really like a lot about it. The display is bright enough to see and is dimmable for times when you are working in a dark studio. Buttons are hardy and have an obvious "click" when you push them for confirmation when working quickly. Large volume knob that is nice and the volume response is appropriate and smooth. Talkback mic is ok, but I use my own with the built in preamp on the rare occasions I use it. I'm able to route it pretty much anywhere I need it. I/O config is more than I'll ever need honestly, but it integrates with my Red4Pre and Dante network fairly well.

One little thing is I wish there was some kind of stand on the back of it to tilt it toward the operator more, as it sits a bit flat on the desk. I ended up finding a folding kick stand on the great jungle shopping site that I was able to stick to the back and it works great.

Now for my frustration. The software for this device has been buggy for me. I have a simple LR setup with a 2 channel sub. The software randomly sends audio through my analogue outs at full volume to my sub when the system powers on and signal is fed through. It will be working fine during a session, then upon restart, it's full volume without any changes being made on my end. Focusrite has acknowledged this bug in an email with me, and has said a fix was coming to the next Rednet update. That was 2 updates ago and it hasn't been fixed yet (for me). For now, I have bypassed my analogue outs for the sub by running a Dante AVIO adaptor. No issues there and it works very well.

I definitely don't regret purchasing it, but will be really happy when they finally work the bugs out of it.

Compatibility
From what Ive found, the R1 does not work with anything outside the focusrite red series (no support for legacy rednet or current rednet) which I find a bit strange for a device called "rednet R1". Here's hoping for increase compatibility in the future
Doesn't Work with Some Hardware
One could be excused for thinking any "Focusrite Rednet" branded product would work with any other "Focusrite Rednet" product, but this isn't the case here. I learned the hard way that the R1 Desktop Remote doesn't work with the A16R converter, and that's a big omission on the part of Focusrite. Even my Sweetwater rep and Sweetwater tech support was not aware of this (they are now). The R1 is apparently designed only for their Rednet Thunderbolt interfaces. So much for any Dante device talking to any other Dante device. I wanted to leave this comment here to caution anyone from spending their money unnecessarily, as I did. Hopefully the description of this item will be updated to make this much clearer.

If you're like a lot of the recording engineers here at Sweetwater, then you probably grew up with stories of the legendary Focusrite Forte console and its ISA preamps. Our relationship with Focusrite is extremely tight, and we regularly enjoy everything from the inside scoop on new gear to fish and chips when they stop by Sweetwater. While Focusrite still produces the classic analog preamps, EQs, and compressors we love, our Sales Engineers are just as excited to introduce our customers to their remarkable RedNet network audio platform, and we have worked with Focusrite to outfit studios, churches, venues, and schools with this awesome technology in action. From everyday audio interfaces to full system designs, if you want Focusrite gear, Sweetwater has you covered.
