Drop-in Upgrade Trem for Strat-style Electrics

The Floyd Rose Rail Tail retrofit tremolo bridge merges the feel and reliability of a hardtail bridge with the EVH-preferred action of a dive-only trem — and it brings it all to your Strat-style electric in a modless drop-in design. The Floyd Rose Rail Tail system installs easily, without drilling or routing, using the existing screw holes and block cavity of your standard 6-point floating tremolo*. Not only does the Rail Tail offer deeper dives than you'd ever get from a traditional trem, it also enhances tone and tuning stability for players who want more from their beloved Strat. The Rail Tail maximizes vibrational transfer from the strings to the body, allowing open and fretted notes to ring out to their full potential. And since the Floyd Rose Rail Tail is CNC machined from a solid piece of brass, you can be sure sweeter tones and longer sustains await you in this powerful drop-in trem system. Of course, it goes without saying that the Rail Tail looks great, bringing a decidedly premium look to your vintage or modern axe of choice. Take it from guitar players at Sweetwater: if you're looking for a Strat tremolo upgrade that doesn't require major surgery, the Floyd Rose Rail Tail is it.

* Vintage-style Strat? The Rail Tail also retrofits 2-point tremolo systems with the drilling of four small screw holes. A hole guide is included.

Reviews

Fantastic Upgrade for Tone and Looks
The Strat this was installed on is a M.I.M. Ed O'Brien (Radiohead) signature model. As a long time E-Bow player, I was really wanting a method of chording with sustain. Hence the E.O.B. Strat @ the Fernandez pickup. The problem was, the zinc block 6-point vibrato system on this strat was terrible for sustain. I blocked it - which confirmed my suspicion that the o.e.m. trem really was substandard for the sustain I desired. Of course, taking my vibrato ability away from a Strat struck me us a bummer. When The Railtail came out I thought I'd wait & see after a few vids and reviews how the system was received and was impressed with what I was hearing. So I installed it. Installation was straight forward.

What I have is basically a new sonic weapon. With the Fernandez sustain on, I'm essentially playing a 6 string E-Bow. Astonishing. The sustain is more solid than even blocking - seriously, the guitar "sounds" like a hardtail bridge. But you can dive. You can dive bomb all the way to the trem bar tapping the pick guard - no kidding.

This Strat doesn't have locking tuners (it's got vintage, singular pole height) which are recommended by Floyd Rose. It's been a couple of weeks of really hammering away on this and the tuning has been rock solid never the less. I do have good stringing habits - a nice tight, low wind to avoid slippage. I'm using Ernie Ball .011 through .048.

Also, I installed this for tone - but looking at the RailTail - I find it to be an aesthetically superior design, no post or screws showing & a highly buffed coating.
Music background: Crazed guitar addict
Great trem
This trim sounds great. It's fairly easy to install. It feels good. Only downside is dive only but you get used to that way better than a traditional six screw
Easy install
This bridge looks great on my Strat. Really happy with my purchase. Derek always follows up and makes sure the experience is a positive one. Thanks Sweetwater!
Great Bridge
I replaced the bridge on my Cory Wong Strat. It comes with a vintage style bridge but I really didn't like the feel of the saddles and the action of the trem. I watched one video online and switched it out in no time. Great upgrade to any level of stratocaster.
