A Classic Metal Axe with Modern Metal Tone!

The Jackson RRT-5 Pro Series Rhoads solidbody electric guitar continues the metal legacy set down by Jackson shortly after Randy Rhoads's death in 1982. Metal has come a long way since the days of Ozzy Osbourne, and today's metal calls for a hotter, more aggressive tone than ever before. With modern innovations such as a compound-radius neck and Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion pickups at the bridge and neck positions, the RRT-5 combines traditional Jackson style with modern performance features. If killer looks and classic style aren't enough, then Sweetwater's got the guitar for you: the Jackson RRT-5 Pro Series Rhoads.

Compound-radius is perfect for both riffing and soloing

The Jackson RRT-5 Pro Series Rhoads sports a compound-radius ebony fingerboard with jumbo frets. Down low, your fretting hand will appreciate the 12-inch radius that keeps things nice and comfortable for natural, relaxed chord work. Up top, a 16-inch radius lays it all out flat for effortless, low-action high-speed runs with monumental string bends without fretting out. The best of both worlds.

Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion pickups offer a ton of versatility

With Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion pickups at the bridge and neck positions, the RRT-5 gives you plenty of sonic options. Lean into them and they'll push your amp into sweet overdrive. Back it off a bit and they clean up nicely. Together, this classic combination gives you the right sound for any situation, especially rocking out!

Through-body maple neck plus strings-through-body tailpiece delivers epic sustain

From headstock to strap button, the Jackson RRT-5 Pro Series Rhoads is set up for truly phenomenal sustain. First, there's the through-body maple neck, whose extreme hardness keeps your strings humming intensely with every note. To provide even better transfer between the strings and the body, Jackson used a strings-through-body tailpiece design. The result is sustain that seems to last forever!

Jackson RRT-5 Pro Series Rhoads Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • A killer Randy Rhoads Jackson guitar made for modern metal players
  • Graphite reinforced 3-piece maple neck-though design with string-through-body tailpiece provides phenomenal sustain
  • Mahogany body adds extra resonance and midrange to your sound
  • Classic combination of Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion pickups covers a ton of sonic territory
  • Compound-radius fretboard makes chord work and soloing effortless

Simply awsome tone in lightweight package

This little wonder surprised me. I never expected to get this sound out of a guitar that wasnt a beast in size and weight. Pickups are perfect for this body type. I am surprised at the smooth neck and intonation thats dead on. I only added strap locks and locking tuners. I usually change the entire electronic package in my axes and I mean axes I believe I have 44 now. No wait 49 if you count the unfinished ones so this is high praise from a metal player using Gibsons and Esp and other overpriced monsters. Great deal for the price.
Rated 3/5

Great sound, but poorly made

Love how this guitar sounds and plays. I have no complaints about that aspect, but I was disappointed that only after a few months it started breaking down on me. I mostly play it at home, so it hasn't been jostled around much so it must be the way it was crafted.

My main problem with this guitar was the input jack. it comes out of place so easily that I ended up just taking the screws off and taping it on so I had easier access to the inside of it.

My second problem was that for whatever reason the neck pickup sometimes doesn't turn on all the way? Sometimes if I switch from bridge to neck, it sounds like an active pickup without any batteries. I'm not sure why this happens.

Lastly, this may be a nitpick to some but the gold on the guitar loses color quickly if you touch it. The knobs are silvering and the place I put my fingers while I'm playing already looked really worn after a year.

I wish I had reported this problem within the two years that I bought it so that I could have negotiated a refund or get another model. It's a shame because I like the sound, but I would recommend something else.
