Legendary Rupert Neve Sound for Your Live Rig

Imagine the massive sound and impact of classic Rupert Neve Designs studio gear — in an 8-channel Dante remote-control microphone preamp optimized for your stage rig. The RND RMP-D8 features eight mic/line inputs outfitted with 1dB-stepped remotely controllable Class A mic preamplifiers packing 60dB of gain. Many top live sound engineers have integrated Rupert Neve Designs analog studio equipment into their digital touring rigs. Now, the RMP-D8 gives front-of-house mixers, multi-room facilities, and venues of all sizes the coveted sound of Rupert Neve Designs, complete with mastering-grade 24-bit 192kHz converters and full Dante integration.

Classic Rupert Neve

At the heart of the RND RMP-D8 are modular mic preamp cards featuring Rupert Neve's renowned custom transformer designs. Many other integrated Dante mic preamp designs rely primarily on a single integrated circuit for gain and tone. Not the RMP-D8. Each channel of the RMP-D8 sports a complete Class A mic preamplifier feeding a custom transformer — just like Rupert Neve Designs' standalone preamplifiers.

Mastering-grade conversion

Many combination devices incorporate converters of a quality that makes them seem like an afterthought. Not the RMP-D8. Its 24-bit/192kHz converters are the result of years of meticulous research and listening tests — and RND's formidable design expertise. Precision-controlled internal clocking and enhanced jitter reduction enable the RMP-D8's exceptional mic preamplifiers to capture the full impact and every nuance of a performance. With the RMP-D8, you can be assured that there is no weak link in your audio path.

The new Dante standard of excellence

The RMP-D8 brings the legendary sound of Rupert Neve Designs into the world of modern Dante connectivity. The RMP-D8's audio signal is compatible with any Dante device across applications ranging from concert halls to stadiums, clubs, recording and broadcast studios, houses of worship, and educational facilities. The RMP-D8 is built tour-tough with a rugged, reinforced-steel chassis for enhanced RF shielding and redundant power supplies capable of worldwide operation.

Rupert Neve Designs

Mr. Neve has remained at the forefront of audio-circuit innovation for over half a century, and his current company, Rupert Neve Designs, continues to advance the state of the art with cutting-edge products that sound incredible and intelligently address the challenges of the digital age.

Great Stage Box! Great Studio Box!
If you have used Neve preamps then you have probably come to expect a certain amount of depth, realism, and musicality. This stage box brings all of that to the live sound realm. Although, it is equally at home in the studio. Built in dante network makes it easy to use it for both.

There is one HUGE feature that seems to have been glossed over in the advertising content. The RMP-8 outputs two copies of the signal over dante. It's kind of like an internal split. Here's the thing, it has gain compensation built in! That means you can send one copy to FOH and one to monitor world. If you change gain, the monitor signal will be unaffected. For studio use you can get a high gain signal on the verge of clipping and record a "safety" channel at -12db of the original signal. Pairs nicely with LV1 for a high end custom rig. Also a great premium front end for any dante console.

Super flexible. Sounds Amazing!

Sounds amazing, wish I could afford it!
We had the privilege of taking advantage Of Neve"s Test Drive jump and I was pretty shocked how quick they shipped it out to us. So, the Dante integration was the real kicker, used it on our drums, and "smooth" was the word that was used frequently. We have a DLive system and we are happy with how easy it was to pull the channels off the I/O port in the preamp section.

Also, I had the privilege of using it to track over a Audio Technica 4050 > RME Babyface Pro. Sounded phenomenal! Loved what Neve did here. Wish they made one with less channels so it"d be more affordable to the common man, otherwise, it"s a no brainer.

RMP-D8 on Vocal and Headset Mics
We have been using the RMP-D8 for about 4 weeks now. We purchased the RMP as part of the 600mhz microphone upgrade. The Church I work for was originally going to purchase 12 channels of Shure ULXD. We ended up going with the Shure QLXD and the RMP-D8.(Just to be clear the RMP-D8 is not part of the rebate program, it was just part of our proposal) This is a permanent installation so the space the QLXD took up was not an issue. Also other features that the ULXD has that the QLXD does not have were not an issue for us. But we do run on Dante, so the fact that we could bring all our mics online with the RMP-D8 through Dante was a big plus. This setup was a lot cheaper to go with over the ULXD system.
Our current Sound board is the Allen and Heath I-live system. This is a discontinued product and is due for an upgrade. But until we get there, the RMP-D8 was a great purchase to help us along. We currently run our singing and headset mics on the RMP.
The preamps on the RMP-D8 provided the character and emotion that we were missing from our Allen and Heath Preamps. After putting the mics on the RMP I instantly started dialing back the compression, dynamic EQ, and almost flatting the eq and some cases. It just wasn't needed anymore. I can't say that the average person in the audience noticed a difference in the sound quality of the vocals but like I said before I could sense we were capturing the character and the emotion of the person talking/singing. I could feel the difference in the faders through my fingers as well. I had a lot more gain before feedback and basically just easier to mix and blend the vocals.

The RMP integrated into our current Allen and Heath System very easily over Dante. I currently run all our Preamp levesl at +40 on the singing Mics. I can not control the preamps on our current mixing surface. (Yamaha has integrated this on their latest v5 firmware update.) So any preamp control I have to change is at the stage or through the app on a Mac or PC. The preamps for the singing mics are all set to the same gain and I adjust the trim at the board as needed. I wasn't sure if this would work, but the preamps have so much headroom that I can leave them all at the same level and it sounds great.

My 4.0 rating comes from the software. I feel like the company can release a version of the software that is designed and integrates better with the product and works at the same level of other companies that are releasing apps/software for their products. Not seeing the LED gain level makes it difficult adjusting the gain remotely.

Like I said earlier we hope to upgrade our current outdated system. We understand this could be a $35,000 investment, so spending $6,000 on the RMP-D8 for some of the most important channels on our console was really worth the money. What I love about this product is you can be running something as simply as a X-32 or GLD and add this high end preamp to really help improve your sound. And when the time comes when you upgrade your console, you can still use this product. It is not just for Sound Engineers running expensive systems.

I would love to see Neve come out with a RMP 4 channel and 2 channel over dante. Something I could put in my backpack when on the road.

Thanks to our Sweetwater Sales Engineer Derek Senestraro for helping us out with this product.
