A Hardtail Metal-making Machine

With its lightning-fast 7-piece Wizard neck and stunning poplar burl top, the Ibanez Premium RGT1221PB is a showstopping speed demon. An American basswood body provides a balanced tone, and a gorgeous ebony fretboard — punctuated with jumbo stainless-steel frets — sings out with lively projection and miles of sustain. The Ibanez RGT1221PB's DiMarzio Air Norton and Tone Zone humbuckers are voiced for metal, brimming with aggression and ready to howl. Toneshapers at Sweetwater delight in the dyna-MIX 10 switching system, which offers extensive control over the sound of this formidable axe. On top of that, the Ibanez RGT1221PB features a Mono-rail bridge, which feels exceptionally comfortable under your picking hand when palm muting. All this adds up to a solidbody electric that's a rock 'n' rolling, metal-making machine.

Iconic Wizard neck offers high-speed playability

Since its invention, the Wizard neck profile has been an Ibanez hallmark. And you'll find the third-generation Wizard III on the Ibanez RGT1221PB solidbody electric guitar. Its incredibly thin contour is a favorite among speed-happy players, as it allows unfettered movement up and down the fretboard. And its maple/walnut construction provides a stable neck while offering increased sustain and tonal attack.

DiMarzio humbuckers are made for metal

There’s no denying the massive range of tone that you can get out of the Ibanez RGT1221PB's duo of DiMarzio pickups. First, there’s the DiMarzio Tone Zone at the bridge — a hot humbucker with a super-wide dynamic range. It’s a perfect complement to the RGT1221PB 's DiMarzio Air Norton at the neck, which is deep, warm, and remarkably clean, with just the right amount of brightness for chimey chord work. Beyond that, Ibanez's dyna-MIX 10 switching system provides 10 different pickup combinations via a mini-toggle and 5-way blade switch. Whatever tone you're hearing in your head, the RGT1221PB can achieve it.

Fixed bridge stability for rock-solid tuning

The Ibanez Premium RGT1221PB sports a fixed Mono-rail bridge, which gives you the peace of mind that comes from rock-solid tuning stability. From standard to lowered tunings, your guitar's pitch will remain more stable, and the string tension will feel more consistent. Changing tunings during a gig goes much faster, compared to messing with a vibrato bridge and dealing with locking nuts. Many players at Sweetwater also attribute greatly increased sustain and a fatter overall tone to the way hardtail bridges transfer the string's energy directly to the guitar's body.

Ibanez Premium RGT1221PB Electric Guitar Features:

  • Contoured basswood body with eye-catching poplar burl top promotes playing comfort
  • Smooth-playing 7-piece Wizard III maple/walnut neck lends itself to fast action
  • DiMarzio Air Norton and Tone Zone pickups serve up a wide range of tones
  • Extensive toneshaping control provided by the dyna-MIX 10 switching system
  • Mono-rail bridge provides precise intonation while enhancing sustain and note articulation Rock-solid Gotoh tuning machine heads and attention-grabbing gold hardware
  • Luminescent side dots give you a great point of reference on dark stages

Great Premium Ibanez

I am very impressed. Very good guitar; premium features at a fair price. It plays amazing and the DiMarzio pickups are excellent as well. I have had zero issues with mine. Buy with confidence.

Don't sleep on this.

Great guitar! I was happy enough to be able to get a neck-thru RG, but also the stock DiMarzio TZ/AN, stainless steel frets, and locking tuners make me a very happy player. I didn't have any fit/finish issues whatsoever with mine. In fact, I'd rank this right alongside some of the Japanese made RG/PGMs that I have. Special thanks to my sales engineer, Zach, and the folks at the workshop who did a great set up on this.

Good Instrument, Questionable Quality Control

My personal experience trying to get a good instrument over the last three years is probably heavily influencing my review.

Mine had a few poorly seated screws and loose nuts on the tuners, and has a tiny spot of what looks like gloss finish that was applied to the very edge of the lower horn. A few minutes of whack-a-mole with loose hardware, some adjustments, and a string change later; it plays like a dream. Mildly disappointed in Ibanez for letting a guitar off the line in that condition (somewhat expected of an Indonesian made guitar, but not cool at that price point). Overall am pretty satisfied with the instrument.
