Metal-minded RG from the Ibanez Iron Label Series

The Ibanez Iron Label series presents metal-focused incarnations of the company’s most popular body styles, optimized for heavy genres with aggressive pickups, ultra-fast Nitro Wizard necks, and premium hardware. The Ibanez RGRTB621 Iron Label electric guitar is blacked-out take on the classic RG, with two scorching DiMarzio Fusion Edge humbuckers, a neck-through design for endless sustain, and an ultra-stable mono-rail bridge that refuses to buckle under even the most punishing onslaughts of rapid-fire downpicking. Plus, with the RGRTB621’s dyna-MIX 10 switching system, you have a massive mélange of metal tones at your fingertips. Plug this dusky axe into your favorite high-gain head, and get ready to experience the awesome power of iron!

Fixed bridge stability for rock-solid tuning

The Ibanez RGRTB621 Iron Label sports a fixed Mono-rail bridge, which gives you the peace of mind that comes from rock-solid tuning stability. From standard to lowered tunings, your guitar's pitch will remain more stable, and the string tension will feel more consistent. Changing tunings during a gig goes much faster, compared to messing with a vibrato bridge and dealing with locking nuts. Plus, you’ll enjoy increased sustain and a fatter overall tone due to the way the mono-rail bridges transfer the string's energy directly to the guitar's body.

Nitro Wizard neck and ebony fingerboard

The 5-piece maple/walnut neck on the RGRTB621 features Ibanez's Nitro Wizard neck profile, which gives you effortless access to this guitar's entire range. And for the ultimate in playability, the neck is capped with a luxurious ebony fingerboard, providing you with unbelievably smooth fretting. The guitarists here at Sweetwater can't get enough of the RGRTB621's fast Nitro Wizard neck.

Fusion Edge humbuckers: made for metal

The Fusion Edge humbucking pickups on the RGRTB621 are the result of a collaboration between Ibanez and noted pickup maker DiMarzio. Designed for aggressive metal, Fusion Edge pickups deliver a powerful scooped sound with tight, compressed bass response and crisp high-end articulation — ideal for bludgeoning djent chugs and high-speed staccato riffing. The RGRTB621's DiMarzio Fusion Edge pickups give you the forceful yet precise tone that modern metal guitarists need. Beyond that, Ibanez's dyna-MIX 10 switching system provides 10 different pickup combinations via a mini-toggle and 5-way blade switch. Whatever tone you're hearing in your head, the RGRTB621 can achieve it.

Ibanez RGRTB621 Iron Label Electric Guitar Features:

  • Neck-through design with nyatoh wings provides maximum sustain
  • Lightning-fast Nitro Wizard 5-piece neck in maple and walnut
  • Primed for heavy genres with aggressive tonality and fast playability
  • DiMarzio Fusion Edge humbuckers deliver metal-ready tone
  • Extensive toneshaping control provided by the dyna-MIX 10 switching system
  • Mono-rail bridge provides precise intonation while enhancing sustain and note articulation
  • Gotoh MG-T locking tuners for exceptional tuning stability

An absolutely amazing instrument

I decided to purchase this guitar after doing a lot of research, and it hits all the right spots for me:
- Fixed bridge for more tuning stability and quicker experiments with different tunings.
- A wonderful Ibanez's Wizard III ebony fretboard.
- Passible pick-ups (not a fan of changing batteries).
- Through-neck (just for style).
- Locking tuners.
- And an absolutely stunning all-black spartan design with a reverse headstock. Looks great in pictures, but ten times better in person.

If you're still thinking about it, don't! Just get it and treat yourself.

All praise by now, but what about flaws? There's only one caveat I had to deal with, which had to do with the string gauge I decided to put on. Depending on your preferences, you may not have to deal with this.
I wanted a fuller feel and a big oomph of the 56 gauge on my low E. I quickly discovered, that the string doesn't fit through the hole in the tuner. Got a bit upset, started researching. After looking up the tuner model online, I realized, that the tuners on the guitar might have been installed in a wrong order. It's a 3+3 system, with 3 tuners dedicated to lower strings and other 3 - for higher. The difference is exactly in the hole size.
I hesitated a bit, but then uninstalled the tuners on the guitar, and low and behold - they were installed in a wrong order. As a quick note, the tuners for higher strings have green dots on them on the underside, this is how I figured I'm not imagining this issue.
Did a quick job of switching the tuners, and the problem is gone!

I did some measurements, and if you're running any gauge

Awesome guitar

I got this a Christmas present (from myself) a couple of months after I got a great deal on a Jackson dinky x series and they're both aimed at the same metal head market so I can compare.
The Ibanez is just a real pleasure to play. I love the neck and for my not so long fingers, it makes a nice difference. The pickups are hot and clean and with the mini toggle coil tap you get a really nice variety of tones.
The dinky is nice as well but best used for some old hair metal music. The Ibanez is more versatile and I just love the all black vibe.
