A Modern Tone Machine with Unshakable Intonation

Teeming with 21st-century appointments, the Ibanez RGR52ET exemplifies what the company’s experimental Axe Design Lab series is all about. This solidbody electric guitar is built around a solid slab of nyatoh, carved into Ibanez’s classic RG shape and topped with maple. Its 3-piece maple Wizard III neck offers extreme playing comfort, further elevated by a flat-radius Macassar ebony fingerboard with 24 stainless steel frets. Ear-grabbing tones abound when you plug the RGR52ET in, courtesy of multi-voice Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers. Furthermore, an EverTune bridge and Gotoh tuning machines ensure spot-on intonation — even under extremely primal playing conditions. Offset-dot fingerboard inlays, Luminlay side dots, a reverse headstock, and a gleaming gloss-poly finish round out the RGR52ET’s outstanding features. Players with a penchant for precision will find that the Ibanez Axe Design Lab RGR52ET ticks all the right boxes, and they’ll have a difficult time putting this state-of-the-art solidbody down.

Incredibly fast Wizard III neck

One of Ibanez’s fastest necks to date, the 3-piece maple Wizard III neck on the RGR52ET provides players with a wide platform for all varieties of fleet-fingered fretboard action. This slim and super-comfortable neck lets you pull off lightning-fast runs, arpeggios, and hammer-ons with ease, while still giving you the substance needed for fretting chords. Capping the neck is a 24-fret Macassar ebony fingerboard loaded with stainless steel frets, perfect for big note bends. From the first time you put your hands on the RGR52ET’s Wizard III neck, you’ll know you’ve got a guitar built with performance in mind.

Multi-voice Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers

The Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers in the Ibanez Axe Design Lab RGR52ET deliver the most sought-after humbucking tones, ranging from modern active to high-output humbucking. Unlike most wire-wound models, Fluence pickups serve up this massive tone arsenal without noise or inductance issues. Additionally, Fishman Fluence Modern humbucker pickups provide you with a choice of two distinctly different voices for each pickup, which you can change via the push-pull on the volume control. The RGR52ET also brandishes a 3-way lever pickup selector and a coil-tap switch.

EverTune bridge ensures rock-solid intonation

The EverTune bridge on the Axe Design Lab RGR52ET is an all-mechanical system that helps you stay in tune longer under any playing situation. Small springs maintain constant tension on your strings, providing long-lasting tuning stability and incredibly accurate intonation. You can even adjust it to control how much your pitch changes when you bend a string. Whether you're playing a long gig or recording session, your tuning will remain stable regardless of your playing style, temperature, or other variables.

Ibanez Axe Design Lab RGR52ET Features:

  • An Axe Design Lab solidbody with state-of-the-art appointments
  • Maple-topped nyatoh body carved into Ibanez’s classic RG shape
  • 3-piece maple Wizard III neck provides a just-right feel

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items

Reviews

My first Evertune!
I wanted to try an Evertune equipped guitar but set up in drop C. Sweetwater set up the Evertune bridge and installed locking tuners. Great guitar on demo sale set up perfectly! Thanks to everyone who helped me out at Sweetwater!!
Evertune = win
This guitar plays well (I did get a PLEK job and had the nut replaced with a Tusq XL) and looks good. The finish on the neck is really nice, and it feels very smooth and slick under my hand. This is almost like an unfinished neck, but finished... it feels great. The pickups are good, but I really actually prefer passive pickups. I pull the volume knob up and get a better sound, but I would still prefer a JB or Custom 5. There is a bit of a different sound in the high end than I am used to here, but many people will absolutely love the pickups.

The real star of the show here is the Evertune bridge. It took me only a minute or two to figure it out and get it tuned... and haven't needed to tune since. I play metal and had Sweetwater set this up to C tuning and it NEVER falters or goes high when I play very hard... usually there is tuning instability with super low tuning, but not with the Evertune. I am, in fact, going to buy two more of these (or the Prestige model) for tuning in D and one in E. I do a lot of studio work and it is great to have harmonies in perfect tune, and not to have accidental bends in lines when it needs to be perfect.

Now for the one issue with this guitar that took it down a star. This guitar came with paint damage on the headstock. There is chipping along the side with the tuners, and a chip in the tip of it. This is really unacceptable from a major manufacturer, and this would never have come out of the Japanese shop this way. This is, however, much cheaper than a Prestige or J Custom, so it is not as bad as a problem would be with one of those. With this said, Sweetwater (Nick Graham) reached out to me when the guitar arrived and notified me of the damage immediately and asked if I wanted to wait for a replacement. I opted to keep this one and just let it go, as it is a tool for the studio... Sweetwater did give me a credit for damage, as they are the best in the industry.

If this guitar did not come with damage in the paint from the factory it would be a 4.5-star guitar. It plays great, sounds good (likely great to many people), and the Evertune is a revelation.

BUY ONE.
