Optimized shell construction
Each drum on your kit serves a different purpose. That's why your Pearl Reference Pure floor tom has been built from a custom recipe of select hardwoods for an optimized response and tonal character. As you can see in the chart, this floor tom is built from a precise blend of maple and mahogany to deliver a cutting attack and a powerful, controlled thump. It also features fully rounded bearing edges to help control overring. The result is a pre-EQ'd sound, live onstage or miked up in the studio.
Low-mass hardware
Even the hardware used in Pearl's Reference Pure series is designed to maximize the response of its shells. Lightweight STL tube lugs allow shells to vibrate freely for a sweet, singing sustain. Low-mass 1.6mm Fat Tone Hoops with hemmed and welded edges add strength and rigidity at the point of contact for a powerful attack. And Air Suspension Rubber Tips decouple the floor tom legs from the ground to enhance low-end response. Superior Shell Technology (SST)
Drummers here at Sweetwater swear by Pearl's Superior Shell Technology, a proprietary technique that gives its Reference Pure drums incredible strength and tonal transfer. Select hardwoods chosen for their unique acoustic properties are milled to optimal thickness using overlapping scarf joint seams to form an airtight fit. Wood plies are then saturated with Pearl's special AcoustiGlue, which permeates every pore and dries to the exact consistency of the wood, creating phenomenal resonance. Lastly, the plies are formed in high-temperature molds with 1,000 PSI of hydraulic pressure to create drum shells with remarkable tone, vibrancy, and strength.
