A Classic Tape Delay Makes Its Triumphant Return!

The Roland RE-201 Space Echo stands tall as one of the most innovative and inspirational delay effects units in music history. Nearly 50 years later, the distinctive echoes and unique character of the RE-201 is revived in the BOSS RE-202 Space Echo digital delay pedal, meticulously crafted to deliver 1:1 performance yet packaged in a pedalboard-friendly enclosure. One look is all it takes to see that the RE-202 is no mere clone — Sweetwater's Space Echo diehards were happy to see all 11 original echo combinations on tap, with an additional 12th coming courtesy of a fourth tape head. Classic controls for bass, treble, repeat rate, and more will feel familiar to experienced users yet easy enough for first-time players to access that special Space Echo charm, with added Saturation and Wow and Flutter knobs to dial in extra color and modulation, respectively. Modern guitarists looking for extra flexibility and functionality in their digital delays have a lot to love in the RE-202, with four onboard presets for instant recall of your favorite sounds, Warp and Twist footswitch controls, and so much more. Channel the sound and feel of a delay effect deity with the BOSS RE-202 Space Echo digital delay pedal!

Vintage Roland Space Echo features and then some

Though designed to package the classic Space Echo sound into a reliable, convenient, and much more affordable pedal, BOSS is aware of the demands today's guitarists have when outfitting their rigs. The RE-202 takes the best of classic digital delay sounds and combines them with contemporary performing and recording features for a vintage-yet-modern feel. Four user presets in the form of "Memories" make it easy to store your delays, with external MIDI expanding this to 127 total presets for even greater functionality. Want to experiment with "new" and "aged" tape modes? The RE-202's Tape button instantly swaps between these two options to find that perfect sound. And whenever you want to mix up your sound with some added warping and twisting, footswitch controls for each function allow for enhanced creativity and complete control over every aspect of your delay.

Reviews

Like having an RE-201 Space Echo, on your pedalboard.. plus more.
Feels high quality. Looks like a vintage Space Echo, but at your feet. Sounds nostalgic. *Not even one vintage RE201 is going to sound like another RE201, but this sounds like a great tape delay with a lot of controls to shape the sound. Favorite features: New/old tape button (affects the character of the delay), saturation knob, wow & flutter knob, dotted 8th tap subdivision (added with firmware update), press and hold for twist & warp (shoegazey self oscillation), 4 memory slots and a footswitch to cycle through them. Just a killer sounding, workhorse of a delay pedal that has that tape mojo and vintage vibe.
Incredible
Incredible tape echo pedal only complaint is I didn't get my bag of candy with my package!

As for the actual unit itself it sounds amazing and is an amazing Delay, Reverb, and Overdrive using the RE-201 simulation! Thanks Sweetwater!

From trickery to leave-on-all-the-time
Cade Bradburn is maga disappointed, which is expected behavior. This pedal does everything you think it can, and nothing it Cade.

Cade do effects as well as just leave the thing turned on for tone shaping.
Fun on a bun!!!
This is a great pedal. Lots of good ambience and strange but fun noises coming from it! Takes a little while to get used to it, you have to be real careful with that saturation setting because it can make this thing very loud! Great sound though, really get spacey with this!
Core part of my 'signature' sound
As a keyboardist primarily, I always loved the beautifully broken sound of the original hardware and I was looking for something to plug into my EP (Crumar Seven) chain that could help me carve out a unique palette for myself. This little guy has done it and then some. With an expression pedal plugged in that can control literally every parameter on the pedal in one motion, it has almost become part of the instrument itself. Often I'm almost 'playing' the Space Echo as much as the piano, and I'll go entire stretches where I use the expression pedal to open and close - ebb and flow - the multiple delay heads, saturation, times, etc., and never even touch the sustain pedal. Past that, by syncing my whole rig through a device called a Midronome (check that guy out - it's a game changer), I can get everything on my racks pumping in perfect time, even when my drummer is playing very loose. It's a live dub machine that adds instant vibe to anything. It's obviously fantastic for guitar tones too, and once in a while I'll break out my Jaguar and play badly through it into an amp and it makes even my horrible guitar playing sound pretty dope. Roland/Boss knocked it out of the park on this one, and no messy tape to replace every couple years either - plus its literally about 1/50 the size and weight.
