Rackmountable Quantum Capture for Elevated Home Recording

As home recording technologies advance, so do the creative possibilities of artists and content creators. PreSonus’s Quantum HD 8 distills three decades of sonic mastery into a powerful multimode interface, primed for performance with unrivaled 32-bit/192kHz resolution. Its rackmountable 26-in, 30-out architecture includes eight rear-mounted, dual microphone and line inputs, as well as front-mounted guitar inputs — accompanied by dedicated re-amp outputs — that were co-designed with Fender. Sweetwater’s studio experts are enamored by the interface’s masterful balance of a high-capacity I/O with a sleek, 1U form factor, providing users detailed real-time feedback with its vivid LED display and controls crafted with a satisfying tactility to dial in your setup. With versatile recording tools, custom-built low-latency drivers, robust analog mic preamps, MIDI compatibility, and flexible ADAT connectivity, the Quantum HD 8 stands to upgrade any studio setup with uncompromising fidelity and control.

State-of-the-art sound and powerful performance

Beneath its robust chassis, the Quantum HD 8 contains an armada of premium recording tech. Custom-designed low-latency drivers are complemented by high-caliber converters that employ up to 124dB of dynamic range to maximize clarity and signal preservation, ensuring that audio is crystal clear and brimming with detail from input to playback. For its combination mic/line jacks, PreSonus debuted their next-gen MAX-HD preamps, capable of up to +75dB of gain across a formidable 20Hz–20kHz range, resulting in unmatched transparency and clarity via digitally attenuated analog character. With impressive preamp gain, phantom power, and diverse DSP, the flexible interface seamlessly accommodates a diverse array of microphone styles and vocal deliveries for live, studio, and broadcast excellence. What’s more, the Quantum HD 8’s Auto Gain capability dials in the optimum gain levels for microphone and instrument signals, teeing you up for the perfect take every time.

Versatile interfacing with Fender-designed finesse

Through a collaborative effort with Fender, the Quantum HD 8 was engineered to facilitate recording for virtually any style and environment, including a pair of front-mounted instrument inputs that feature dedicated re-amp outputs, supplying guitarists and bassists with user-friendly plug-and-play accessibility. Its vivid LED display gives users real-time feedback through a thoughtfully-arranged interface, intentionally designed to deliver relevant details without distraction. To expand the interface’s interoperative potential, the Quantum HD 8 accommodates 16 channels via ADAT optical connectors at 48kHz, alongside a stereo-capable S/PDIF port and MIDI compatibility. Moreover, its balanced stereo output jacks are DC-coupled, opening the possibility of sending CV signals to compatible modules, synthesizers, effects units, or pedals. Plus, the Quantum HD 8includes a built-in Loopback capability, making quick work of crafting monitor or streaming mixes with streamlined DSP integration.

Reviews

Great 8 pre!
I originally bought a Focusrite Clarette but returned it due to it only having 1 ADAT I/O. The Quantum HD has 2 which I am using with a UA 710 D adding 8 more pres using the 4 pres from the UA and 4 pres coming from a Focusrite Red 1 connected into the UA, giving me a total of 8 PREs via ADAT and using 96k sample rate. The Quantum HD acts as the clock and the devices lock up quickly and solid. The HD PREs are quiet and sound great to my ears. A huge upgrade to my home studio. My only complaint was the lack of documentation regarding the software/mixer. Documentation IMO was poor, however, my issue was assigning outputs in Logic. This was simply a lack of my understanding but Presonus support was very responsive and helpful. They do not provide phone support however. All in all, I'm very happy with this unit. Super clean, quiet and has all the features I was looking for in an interface! Seamless with Logic.

Almost Perfect

I recently purchased this unit to replace my M-Audio Profire 2626 that died. I suppose the capacitors went bad. I did some research and it seemed the Quantum HD 8 checked all the boxes for me and had a great price! it came with a perpetual license for PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 DAW. When I hooked everything up and opened up the GUI, I went to the Pan Knob icon to open the Mixer View and it was greyed out. The Mixer View would not open. There was a message in the GUI that there was a Firmware Update. I consulted Grok Ai and it said that's possibly why I could not access the Mixer View and that I would need to do the Firmware update. I proceeded to try and do the Firmware update with several failed attempts ( this took hours! ). I then had the idea to hook up the Quantum to my newer but not as robust laptop. I figured that since my Desktop had an older motherboard, there may be some compatibility issue even though it had the proper USB-C 3.1 connection. I was able to successfully complete the firmware update with my laptop. I then shut everything down and plugged the Quantum back into my main Desktop system. Everything was fine and I was finally able to access the Mixer View so that I could configure my signal paths. From there, I successfully routed everything like I had it on my old Profire and the sound was just as good if not better. To top it off, the Quantum comes with Loopback built in which is good for using with Zoom and OBS etc... So far, I've been extremely pleased with the Quantum but it started out like a nightmare. It's normal for units to have Firmware updates but customers need to know that things, VERY IMPORTANT, things may not function unless you do the firmware update and if it fails, you may need to use a newer computer in order for the firmware to be successful. Fortunately, I had a laptop that was newer than my desktop unit. By the way, the firmware update only took about three minutes with the newer laptop.

Replaced original Quantum interface
My original Quantum interface took some damage in a power spike but continued to operate with minor display glitches for a couple more years. It finally died so I needed a replacement. The Quantum HD 8 is a great drop-in replacement with updated features and better quality. The only function I miss from the original is built-in Talkback capability. I use it with Fender Studio Pro and the Talkback interface no longer exists without it in the hardware interface.
Higher processing rates and bit-depth is great. I like the meter interface and options available right on the unit. Having inputs 1 & 2 on both the front and back is a great feature. I feed them from the tracking room but can easily plug into the front in the control room and the inputs automatically override the rear inputs.
Got it on-sale so it was a great deal. Works seamlessly with Studio Pro (Studio One) with gains, phantom power and more adjustable within the software. Auto Gain makes setting input levels simple and quick.

The "ONE" to keep
I have to say after going through many interfaces.this is the one to keep.I like the word clock in and out also not having the headphone out 2 tied to the 3/4 out also 1/2 out tied to headphone out 1 I use Studio one pro 8 By Fender so it works flawlessly with it over all I'm very happy with this interface
