Flagship processing, now in a compact Qu mixer

The Qu-5D combines the compact portability of the best-selling Qu-16 with the powerful 96kHz FPGA processing of Allen & Heath's acclaimed XCVI Core, the same engine that drives the company's flagship SQ and dLive series. This advanced digital mixer features six cutting-edge Multi-FX engines, each with dedicated return channels, and offers full Everything I/O connectivity for maximum flexibility and expandability. Enhancing its intuitive workflow, the Qu-5D is equipped with a large 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, vivid channel strip displays, customizable layers, and eight programmable SoftKeys, delivering a seamless, hands-on mixing experience in a space-saving design. At Sweetwater, we've worked with Qu series mixers since their original unveiling, and we're genuinely impressed by the Qu-5D's elevated capabilities and refined user experience.

All the I/O you need — right where you need it

Designed for maximum flexibility, the Allen & Heath Qu-5D boasts a highly versatile I/O configuration with 36 mix inputs, including 32 mono channels — linkable for stereo operation — and two dedicated stereo channels. Its output architecture features a stereo main LR bus, 12 mix outputs (comprising six mono or linkable auxes and six stereo aux/group mixes), and four matrix outputs that can also be configured as stereo pairs. For physical connectivity, the Qu-5D includes 16 XLR mic/line combo jacks, two stereo line input pairs (each with dual TRS connectors), and a dedicated talkback input. On the output side, it offers 12 XLR outputs, two TRS outputs, and a stereo AES3 digital output, ensuring seamless integration into both live sound and studio production environments.

Multitrack recording made effortless

Recording with the Qu-5D is refreshingly straightforward. It features a 32-in/32-out USB-C audio interface, allowing seamless integration with your DAW for multitrack recording and playback. For standalone operation, the built-in SD card slot supports 32-channel recording and playback at up to 48kHz and supports 16 channels at 96kHz, eliminating the need for a computer. Additionally, a USB-A port enables stereo recording, playback, and data transfer. Finally, for networked audio environments, the Qu-5D includes a 16-in/16-out Dante interface, supporting sample rates up to 96kHz, ensuring effortless compatibility with AoIP-based recording setups.

Reviews

Great mixer with plenty of options
This was for my church. We are a capella only but this mixer had all the features we were looking for. It has many features we won't use, and the 5D gives us the flexibility to use Dante or slink in the future. Came from a Touchmix, so I had a decent learning curve, but so far so good.
Blown away
Hopefully sweetwater sees this and deletes my previous review because I'm not trying to review bomb. But dang I have now used this at a few gigs and I'm in love. One of the companies i run sound for uses a certain well known digital mixer and this is a clear step up. Its so comfortable to use. I was afraid i would have to get used to the UI but after the first gig it became inuitive and the pre amps are SILKY. Im pairing it with the ab168 and its so nice. I used to be worried about having less matrix outs but now that ive gotten used to the mixes, it has been a non issue. Plenty of IO. I was also hesitant about the scribble strip but no more. I think the one on it is very sleek and clean looking even if its less characters and not colored. Its easy to read from any angle. I love the graphic eq, and its visualization makes ringing out a room very easy. One of the best features thats so simple but so useful is the set fader to unity function. You simply hold reset and move a fader and it goes right to unity. And then hold reset and move it down and itll automatically go all the way down. Ive ran a conference on it. Ive recorded a full band. Ive ran a band live. Its just so nice and comfy in every scenario. I love this board. The wing is its big competitor and its undeniably a cool board, but i do prefer this one. I love its design and how minimalist it looks. The L shape turns a lot of heads. It also looks pretty when you run sound and the lights dance. Over all just a very aesthetic board. It also mitigates a lot of things i thought it would lack but theres actually work arounds that allow for more flexibility. For example, the fully customizable fader layers and the ability to route a preamp anywhere. When i was looking at it on paper, it seemed like it had some strange limitations but in reality, a lot of the channel types are just names or suggestions and you can actually customize the board to be whatever you need. What a time to be a soundguy. If you have the wing, my only hope for you is that you're jammin on it and happy. But for me, my original review gave it 4.5/5 stars and i needed to ammend that. After using it, its a 5/5
So far so great!
I've been looking for a digital mixer for a while and it finally made sense for me to buy one with the gigs im doing. I went back and forth between this and the behringer wing. I opted for this because of the 96khz, allen heath build quality, and the gigs im doing dont need that many inputs or waves sound grid. I've had x32s do too many weird things on me to trust music tribes build quality. So far this thing has been a tank and it feels very very nice. Super high quality. Theres a few very small things that i gripe about like only 4 matrix outs compared to the 6 on an x32 or the character limit on scene names and the no color on the scribble strip. None of these are deal breakers for me though and im still loving this board and consider it major upgrade over the x32 platform
