Qu-32: A Powerhouse Digital Mixer That Fits Your Workflow

Whether you're recording in the studio or mixing front of house, your mixer is the core of your operation. If it fights you, your work suffers. Many digital consoles are inscrutable on the surface, forcing you to descend into menu purgatory just to perform a simple function. The Allen & Heath Qu-32 Chrome Edition mixer is designed with a clean, logical layout, so you can get to what you need, fast. The Qu-32 features audiophile sound quality, touchscreen control, 32 AnalogiQ preamps integrated with DSP, instant recall, 33 motorized faders, high-efficiency ARM core processing, studio-grade effects, an integrated multitrack USB recorder, and truckloads more, the Allen & Heath Qu-32 Chrome Edition mixer will drastically improve both your workflow and your end product.

Qu-32 Chrome Edition adds more monitor mixes, a spectrogram, and an Automatic Mic Mixer

The Allen & Heath Qu-32 Chrome Edition expands on the already impressive Qu-32 mixer, while also adding high-contrast metallic-finished controls. A spectrogram display has been added to help you find feedback and problem frequencies fast. More monitor mixes are now available. And the Qu-32 Chrome Edition's Automatic Mic Mixer mode automatically balances up to 16 microphone inputs, perfect for conferences, panel talks, and TV shows. The Qu-32 is ideal for novices and volunteers that may not be comfortable mixing a large number of mics, and it's also great for pros who have more important things to do than ride faders.

Intuitive — and very comfortable to work on

Having a mixer with massive processing power and sophisticated functionality is nice, but if you can't get to the controls you need instantly, it's all for naught. With the Qu-32 Chrome Edition, the digital console has evolved to the point where you forget that it's digital and just get on with your session, fluidly and efficiently. Without menu diving. Allen & Heath put years of research into ergonomics and the hands-on mixing experience, resulting in digital consoles that deliver a natural, logical layout and workflow. Your most-used processing tools are presented clearly on the SuperStrip, with one function per physical control. Whether you're a digital novice or coming from years of analog mixing, you'll find the Qu-32 Chrome Edition intuitive — and very comfortable to work on.

Touchscreen control speeds up your Qu-32 workflow

The Allen & Heath Qu-32 Chrome Edition rocks a 16-million-color, 800 x 480 touchscreen with an integrated data encoder - the core of a user interface that gives you quick and easy access to all your settings. Designed for clarity, the user-friendly interface of the Qu-32 has dedicated keys and screen tabs that let you quickly get to your meter and RTA views, effects racks, channel processing, USB audio control, setup menus, scenes, and much more.

AnalogiQ preamps and 24-bit conversion for warm, musical sound

Allen & Heath fortified the Qu-32 Chrome Edition with 32 of their superb AnalogiQ total-recall preamps. Featuring phantom power, zero crossing detection, and a unique pad-less, 1dB-step gain stage, the preamps are married to the DSP for optimum transparency and gain accuracy. The analog signal is captured by high-quality, low-latency 24-bit A/D converters matched to high-grade 24-bit D/A converters. A&H has spent considerable time refining the AnalogiQ design so it gives you stellar transparency, with minimum distortion and a vanishingly low noise floor. But how do these preamps sound? Take it from Sweetwater, the Qu-32 Chrome Edition is delightfully analog-sounding — warm and musical.

Total-recall moving-fader automation supercharges your Qu-32 mixing

We first saw moving faders on some of the high-end, large-format consoles of the late 1970s. With the advent of digital technology, flying faders later became fairly standard, albeit not on entry-level digital mixers. Fader automation is a must-have for efficient mixing, particularly when you're dealing with multiple monitor mixes. Simply push a mix key, and the faders immediately fly to the send levels for that mix. The Allen & Heath Qu-32 Chrome Edition sports 33 motorized ALPS faders. The 32 channel faders are arranged over two layers, giving you instant access to all your channels and masters in a compact space. There's also a dedicated master fader on the Qu-32 that dynamically follows your mix selection. A third (custom) layer is available for the configurable user strip layout, where you can assign any combination of Inputs, FX Sends, FX Returns, and Mix masters.

Powerful functionality added in v1.9 software

The Qu series ecosystem is constantly being refined, and v1.9 of the Qu software adds even more functionality. More mic presets for Shure, Sennheiser and Audio-Technica mics are now available, making it easier than ever to dial in great sound fast with any mic in any application. You'll find a ton of advanced iPad control options too, like the ability to patch channels between dSnake, USB, Qu Drive and ME personal monitoring systems. You can set up various User profiles with different levels of permissions, manage your Scene memory, Copy/Paste channel settings, and manage USB devices. And v1.9 adds Windows DAW control support, for all popular Windows platforms.

Reviews

Great digital mixer for those needing it simplified
So far our team has been pleased with the QU32. It has definitely been an upgrade to our sound, by improving both in house and streaming quality.
There is some learning curve but it is fairly intuitive and a reasonable investment.
Thank you Ben Elder and team!!

Low learning curve
I like that there is a low learning curve with this digital sound board. The volunteers in the church were up to speed a lot quicker than what I have seen with other boards. I also like that I was able to plug in the existing analog connections while we are working on running the digital snake. I was able to get the board swapped in in one day.

The sound quality is great and of course it has the advantages of any digital board such as saving scenes and the control we get on each channel.

Only thing that would be nice is seeing user entered descriptions on the board like you see on some other boards, but I would rather have 32 sliders which those boards do not have.

Digital recording has a low volume level but we are able to add volume and normalization during the conversion from wave to mp3.

No better mixer in this price range
It is amazing what is built into this mixer. There are far too many features to list them all. While I use this board in my studio with Pro Tools, it would be an excellent live sound mixer especially if you work with multiple bands and/or venues. The scene memory allows you to do a virtual sound check without the band. In addition, there are EQ and comp and gate presets that work with a variety of microphones and applications. The touch screen is quite a time saver when changing settings on the fly. It also has a built-in SD recorder for either 2-track stereo masters or 16-track multitrack recording, I treaded my Presonus Studio Live 32 for this and I"ve had no issues with the QU 32. You won"t find a better mixer under five grand.

Just, WOW!!!
I have been seeing this board around for awhile...
I finally got the chance to "mess" with it at the 2016 NAMM Convention, and I got o do an Install at a Church with one recently. Bottom line... I WANT ONE OF THESE AND WILL GET ONE REAL SOON!!!
VERY simple to use and get running!!!
If there's ANY problem with this Board, it would be that you can't EQ your Monitors unless you use an Outboard Monitor System.
But the Sound Quality is Good Enough that, if you have that capability on your Powered Monitor Source, then you really won't need to do it from the Board anyway.
AWESOME BOARD!!! Probably the LAST BOARD you'll ever need... I think you can upgrade the Software from the site as well.
Paul Lea is MY "go to guy" at Sweetwater for things like this...
Beware, Paul. I'll be calling you SOON!!!

Love it
First time with a digital board. We use it at a mid size curve ( gymnasium) and it works great. Really like the app with it so we can adjust eq levels because the problems with echos that come with that type of building. Like that we can set it back to a known setting (called a scene ) after we use it for something other than Sunday services. With just a slight learning curve this board is just great and highly recommend it.
