Reviews

Hotone Purple Wind 5w Head
I bought this "sight unheard", and completely on the recommendation of a musician friend whose opinions on gear I have learned to trust. "BUY it, you'll freaking LOVE IT", he said, and dang if he wasn't spot on again: this li'l bugger RAWKS. I put this microbeest to work day before yesterday on a new-ish song that has needed a solo for too long now, and I knew immediately that this buy was no mistake. It just sounds "right", sits beautifully in the mix w/ NO BOARD EQ(!)and just truly sounds inspiring, for lack of a more precise term (hey, I just woke up and fired up the 'puker, gimme a break). For the record, I ran this Plexi tone-clone monster thru a 60's era Farfisa-type cabinet that I loaded w/ a pair of 8" Celestions awhile back. I used a pair of mics on the cab, one each Sennheiser 609 and the venerable MXL 144 ribbon (cheap mic? YES! Sounds like rock'n'roll? HELL YES!!) running thru both channels of a Rolls 222 mic pre, direct to my recorder. I played my '73 Guild Bluesbird straight into the P-Dub (Purple Wind, get it?), btw. Needless to say, the solo track is a keeper; it not only sounds great, but the sound of this rig brought out the best of my playing abilities, and I cannot think of any higher praise. "BUY IT, you'll freakin' LOVE IT!", indeed......

Hotone Nano Legacy Purple Wind
It does what it does great, I can play at home again without disturbing the neighboors (I put the cab at my head's height so it feels loud even when not cranked. The sound opens up the louder I crank it dynamic-wise. The EQ is very responsive to changes. When I cannot play at full volume I put a Rimrock Mythical Overdrive in front and blend the sounds together and get a dimed amp feel. I play a Les Paul through it, but I would love to play a Strat as I am sure it could do the edge of break-up clean and Hendrix sounds as well that I tend to not be able to tap into with humbuckers so that would be the only downside to this little head . As far as cabinet though, I play the Purple Wind in a 1X15 Jensen Concert alnico speaker so it sounds Huuuuuge and vintagey.
Plus, Sweetwater has been golden perfect with their service, they really do live up to their good reputation!

This Amp Is Cool,Man!
Bought this to plug in and test my guitar/bass repair jobs. Sits on the counter top, doesn't get in the way, etc., but wow, does this little amp perform. Even has an effect loop. Headphones or quality cabinet, it rocks-The EQ section is really good,as is the gain knob. A lot of kit stashed inside this l'il purple wonder. So worth the money!
The Hotone Nano-Legacy Purple Wind ROCKS
This little purple head looks like a very cool toy, but it kicks some serious mojo. VERY close to Plexi action when connected to a quality cabinet. Add in the effects loop and this becomes way more than a simple one channel amp. I cheated and played my Jazz bass into it with a proper chain of FX in the loop....holy smoly! Very happy with this purchase!
Impressive Display Of Tonal Mojo
My Purple Wind arrived in 2 days,NO ONE rocks it like Sweetwater does! I needed a nano-sized amp head and Hotone delivered the goods. I have a small 10" cab loaded with a Celestion that's been gathering dust ever since I got my Katana head with a 5" speaker, so I needed something for that l'il cab. Wow, this amp truly blew me away. 5 stars all the way due to the included effects loop. I stuck a Keeley Monterey pedal plus a wah pedal in front of the amp, blew my little 'ol mind. I also have a stereo 2x12" cab and this amp sounded phenomenon el excellente' through one side of it, easily driving a Celestion 12". I will be ordering another Purple Wind to use as a stereo set up with that cabinet. Amazing, the least expensive Plexi In Stereo sound EVER. I would never have imagined how good this amp is, how many uses it covers, etc. At this price, just buy two and save the time waiting on a second one to arrive.
