Four Feature-packed SSL Origin Preamps in One Chassis

The Solid State Logic PureDrive Quad 4-channel mic/line/instrument preamplifier packs four high-performance PureDrive preamps ported from the company’s acclaimed Origin console. Featuring 192kHz/32-bit conversion via ADAT, AES, and USB, in addition to stepped controls and digitally controlled analog circuitry, the PureDrive Quad interfaces seamlessly into today’s hybrid studio setups. The preamps inherit the sonic purity and crystalline clarity characteristic of SSL microphone preamp designs. In addition to the Clean setting, SSL’s innovation Drive circuit offers two distinct flavors of gain-dependent, harmonically rich character. The PureDrive Quad also retains four great-sounding front-panel hi-Z DI inputs with automatic input detection to handle electric bass, guitars, keyboards, and other electronic instruments. With all this going for it, the Solid State Logic PureDrive Quad is a no-brainer for inclusion in any modern pro studio rack.

A joy to use

The SSL PureDrive Quad transforms microphone selection into an artistic decision rather than a technical one. With 65dB of gain on tap, you’ll be able to choose mics for their sonic qualities, not their output. Finally, you can feel free to deploy your favorite low-output passive ribbon mic on quiet sources! Four mic preamp input impedance options allow you to explore new sonic possibilities with your ribbons and dynamic mics. Operationally, the PureDrive Quad is a joy to use. It’s fitted with stepped pots for easy gain settings and quick recall. It also has per-channel Gain plus 31-detent Trim controls with precise 1dB increments for fine-tuning, 48V phantom power, polarity invert, and a handy 3rd-order highpass filter.

SSL’s versatile Drive circuit

The PureDrive Quad preamps feature SSL’s versatile Drive circuit, which gives you a choice of three modes: Clean, Classic Drive, and Asymmetric Drive. The Clean setting captures sources with the pristine high-fidelity sound for which SSL preamps are renowned. For heavier musical settings that require a bit more punch, Classic Drive enhances signals with warm, gently saturated, vintage flavor. Working on an aggressive metal or fusion project? Asymmetric Drive delivers a modern, edgier-sounding distortion that’ll plow through a dense track like a hot knife through butter. Both Drive modes are variable depending on the amount of preamp gain, for highly musical, harmonically rich results that always sound natural.

The Solid State Logic legacy

Since its founding by Colin Sanders in 1969, Solid State Logic has followed a design philosophy that prioritizes the needs of artists, engineers, and producers, developing products that facilitate creativity by removing technical impediments and streamlining workflows. Firmly ensconced in the pantheon of pro audio greats, SSL helped shape the history of pro audio, and it continues to innovate, bringing its uncompromising quality and signature sonics to a new generation of artists and creators. Sweetwater is proud to offer you SSL’s pedigreed line of consoles and signal processors.

SSL PureDrive Quad: My Old Mixer Sounds Amazing Again!
I gotta say, I'm really impressed with this (4-pre)preamp! My old Tascam mixer is great but doesn't have amazing preamps, and the SSL PureDrive Quad has breathed new life into it. Everything is so much cleaner, clearer, and more detailed now (and with options to drive the signal). It's exactly what I was hoping for from SSL.

Having four of their legendary preamps in one rack space is a game-changer. I can't believe how much it's improved my recordings already.

Big thanks to my Sweetwater guy, Alan Moon, for the recommendation and the awesome service (as always!).
Sweet
So so Candy, Precious and awesome sound. One of the best sounds for recording instruments, synthetizers and voices.
Fully recomended
SSL did good
Firstly, thanks David for your help getting this! I preordered and this has been one of the best additions to my home setup. I connect it to my Apollo Twin so I have 6 ins now which is perfect for anything I'll do at home. These pres give you the Origin console sound but with some extras thrown in. Being able to change between 4 impedance makes each channel wild versatile and it's been really helpful and opened up some real creativity with sound design while recording. The sickest part about this unit is the 3 drive modes though. I find myself mostly gravitating to the Amber drive for a warmer vintage sound, but both clean and green drives are amazing and I put them to use on guitars and synths.

Get this if you're looking for an easy way to get analog sound with easy connectivity. Would be right at home in a big studio, but for me it's seriously elevated my home setup because it's the sound of an Origin desk shrunk into a 2U rack space. If you're on the fence because it's a new unit, I say go for it. Best gear buy I've made this year.

It's SSL.. would mostly recommend
Fantastic unit. If you like SSL you wont be very disappointed for the price point. Can't quite get the saturation I want from it is one of my gripes, sounds a little more distorted than that sweet saturated quality. Takes all different kinds of mics very well though and has great clarity and headroom. It will give you an accurate reference of your source. I also don't really like how they combined the mic / line level on the same input - that annoys me. If you're connecting a mic source from a TRS patchbay to the TRS input, you wont get your source. They kinda boxed me in there and forced me to get another set of TRS-XLRm cables just to be able to patch a mic level source. Just a me thing really, but I overlooked that detail before I bought the unit. If you want to use both mic and line level sources with this unit, you will need both XLRm and DB25.

SSL Puredrive Quad
Sounds really good. Bought a Neve 8 channel 1073OPX also. The SLL is good. The Neve is the bomb! Still glad I bought this. For the price, it was worthwhile. wished it had a phase invert option.
