Sweetwater-exclusive Tweed Princeton

The Fender '65 Princeton Reverb guitar tube combo amplifier in Lacquered Tweed is only available at Sweetwater! Fender used the beloved '65 Princeton Reverb as a starting point, then the brand added a beautiful and vintage-style lacquered tweed covering that will transport you back to the great Fenders of the 1960s. The speaker has been beefed up to a 12-inch Eminence Cannabis Rex for its blend of smoothness and sparkle. And of course, you still have that magnificent Fender spring reverb and tremolo onboard. The '65 Princeton Reverb will add a lot to any collection.

A legendary amplifier design

When Fender originally released the Princeton guitar amplifier, the brand's intent was to offer a good practice amplifier for guitarists needing to work on their chops. But the model quickly caught on with professional and gigging guitarists for how effortlessly it delivered both chiming cleans and sweet tube-amp breakup. Whether speaking about the original tweed designs in the 1950s or the iconic black-panel models of the '60s, the Princeton has been a mainstay with players for over 50 years.

Vintage-inspired look

This Sweetwater-exclusive Fender '65 Princeton Reverb blends elements of two of the most sought-after eras of the combo. While the circuitry is based on the clear-as-a-bell black-panel models, these amps boast a stunning lacquered tweed covering that imparts a '50s old-school appearance. And Fender's vintage-style brown and gold grille cloth helps finish off the look. If you've always loved the tonal characteristics of a Fender black-panel amp but favor the warm, inviting look of a tweed, this amp's for you.

Same iconic tone, just bigger

The amplifier's appearance isn't the only new addition to this '65 Princeton Reverb. Fender also outfitted this little giant with a 12-inch Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker. Not only does a larger speaker (original Princeton Reverbs come with a 10-inch speaker) offer a more powerful low end and better projection, but the Cannabis Rex is a favorite among Sweetwater's vintage amp players for how clear and chiming its top end is, without ever being strident. And the traditional Fender spring reverb and tremolo add all the swampy goodness these amps are known for.

Fender '65 Princeton Reverb Features:

  • 12W tube combo amp with an updated, vintage look
  • 12-in. Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker is clear and smooth
  • Vintage-style lacquered tweed covering
  • Features Fender's famed tube reverb and tremolo
  • Compact dimensions have made it a popular gigging amp for decades
  • Amp cover included

Reviews

Clean Heaven
This amp really shines with a telecaster. The clean tones up around 5 are very balanced and just start to break up a tiny bit. Surprising as I read that this amp is too loud for home use. But if you play mostly clean and don't need to force the amp to natural breakup then this is perfect. It does sound great when it gets into the dirt, but here is where it is too loud for the home. I prefer a pedal for the dirt anyway, and so far it loves the Blues Driver. Still not convinced of the Cannibus Rex, but have not tried it with others…yet. The tremolo and vibrato sound great also if kept at reasonable levels..too much of a good thing sort of deal. I have a butterscotch blonde telecaster that seems to have been made for this box. Never thought of the aesthetics of an amp or guitar, but at first glance they appeared to be made for one another. 45 years of playing to my dog, I have never thought of an amp as beautiful. Doesn't matter ultimately...but thought it worth mentioning that this amp is very well built and finished. The wife was never a fan of the ugly black box in the corner. Thanks also to the great staff of Sweetwater who are always polite and helpful. I actually got a phone call a few days after the order that was not a marketing call per se…just a nice conversation that reminded me I could return it without question if not satisfied an that they had a 2 year warranty. First purchase from them of many to come. Highly recommend this amp.
Great Amp!
I wanted an amp with a lot of head room that could cut through the mix at small/mid-size venues. This is sound check at its first outing. No drums at this show, but I know it would hang. Love the tone. The tremelo & a touch of reverb are so sweet. It was a big investment for me, but I think it's worth it.
In love with with my Princeton Reverb
After a few years of laying off playing, I decided to get my first Fender guitar and first ever tube amp. I am so glad I went with this Sweetwater limited edition version with the 12" Cannabis Rex speaker. The tone is even better than what I was hoping for. It's inspiring to play through and looks every bit as great as it sounds. Thank you to Halaj for checking in and making sure all went well!
Great Amo
I bought the Princeton 65 Laquer tweed and it s a Killer amp! It's far louder than 12 Wayts should be,
Great tones.the 12" Parker has Girth and Balls…
If you need a small light weight tube amp look no further!
Music background: Pro player, 40 plus years
Perfect for my needs
I wanted an amp that would be a good pedal platform, wasn't too loud for bedroom use, wouldn't break my back dragging it up my drummer's stairs, but could still keep up with said drummer. This Princeton Reverb satisfies all of those needs and sounds GREAT doing it. It sounds so good that I don't even really use many pedals with my AmPro II Telecaster, occasionally a Tube Screamer but that's about it. The reverb sounds great, it can really get out of hand on higher settings so I keep it at or below 3. Tremolo is great too, I'm never going crazy with trem but there's a good range of options. My only gripe after about a month of playing with it is that the power switch is a little annoying to get to if you have the amp backed up to a wall, but it sounds so good I don't really care. If you're on the fence and doubting all the hype, just buy it. You won't regret it.
