A Sweet-modded Iteration of Fender’s Classic 12-watt Combo

The Fender ’65 Princeton Reverb is one of the company’s most historically significant tube amplifiers, flaunting a sound, style, and all-around vibe that are nothing short of iconic. This tube-fueled live wire is versatile enough to tackle living room rehearsals, studio sessions, and live gigs, churning out dynamic cleans and overdriven textures with equal aplomb. You get a tube-driven spring reverb and tremolo (a.k.a. “vibrato”) that are guaranteed to satisfy your craving for legendary Fender tones. Moreover, Sweetwater’s in-house tube amp technicians have hand-modified this ’65 Princeton Reverb with some of our most-requested mods to provide you with added sonic flexibility and a lusher tremolo effect. Furthermore, the sparkling, smokey-smooth sound of this amplifier’s 12-inch Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker pairs beautifully with its warm-sounding tube circuit to deliver an extra-sweet tone that’s downright magical. This incarnation of the Fender ’65 Princeton Reverb brandishes a Baltic birch plywood cabinet with eye-grabbing aesthetics, including a lacquered tweed covering and an oxblood grille cloth.

Upgraded by the SWX Mod Shop

The in-house technicians here at the SWX Mod Shop upgraded this Fender ’65 Princeton Reverb with our most-requested mods, so you can benefit from them as soon as you unbox your new amplifier. First, we added a rear-panel midrange control, enabling you to dial the amp from standard Black Panel tones all the way to scooped and mid-forward Tweed-like tones. We also modified the tremolo speed to a slower rate with a wider range of intensity control to provide you with a lusher-sounding effect than a stock circuit. A 12-inch Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker rounds out the amplifier, infusing it with a sparkling, full-bodied sound with extra bottom end and plenty of high-end definition. What’s more, this amplifier is backed by Sweetwater’s exclusive 2-year Total Confidence Coverage warranty, which protects you from product defects and malfunctions — a must-have since modding the amplifier voids the manufacturer’s warranty.

Iconic Black Panel sound and style

The ’65 Princeton Reverb just bleeds tube tone. Powered by one 12AT7 and three 12AX7 preamp tubes, two 6V6 output tubes, and a 5AR4 rectifier tube, the amp also features tube-driven reverb and tremolo. The ’65 Princeton Reverb is the perfect combo amp for anyone who craves pure Fender tone in a lightweight, low-watt package. Moreover, the ’65 Princeton Reverb is versatile enough to go from the living room to the recording studio to the gig in true Fender style. Whether you’re aiming for naturally dynamic cleans or overdriven grit, you’ll find yourself reveling in the ’65 Princeton Reverb’s tube-soaked tones. We have many Princeton devotees at Sweetwater, and we’re all very excited about our custom-modded version of this classic amp.

The legendary Fender Princeton Reverb

The legendary Fender Princeton Reverb of the 1960s was small, light, and moderately powered. Though intended for practice situations, the Princeton Reverb was capable of big tube tone, and Fender’s world-class reverb and vibrato effects were the icing on the cake. From its inception, countless guitarists have chosen it as their go-to studio amp, crafting signature sounds with a stompbox or two feeding a miked-up Princeton. Today, original Princeton Reverb amps are prized collectibles and are becoming harder to find. The modern incarnation of the ’65 Princeton Reverb offers today’s players all the great tone and dynamics of the original in an affordable, roadworthy reissue. The robust 12-watt platform is a wise choice for creating tube tone in a small space, and it even provides enough output for small gigs and rehearsals.

My favorite amplifier for my Telecaster!
Over the years now, I've used a number of different amplifiers… Everything from a back breaking old Fender Twin Reverb, an old Ampeg GU-12, a solid state Fender M 80, a line 6- 50 watt Spider modeling amp, and numerous others. This little '65 Princeton Reverb with the Sweetwater mods and the Eminence Cannabis Rex 12" speaker is the absolute sweet spot for getting the perfect tube amp Telecaster sound I've been looking for, at the volume levels I need. It's the perfect amp for me!

Amazing Clean Tone & Pedal Platform - Looks Fantastic in Any Setting
I have had this model for a few years now and really like it. It sounds great with any guitar and pickup combo that I have. I generally play it with an Epi WildKat with Lollar P90s, traditional SS Teles, a Hot Tele with Seymour Duncan Brodcaster and '59 neck humbucker, an Cabronita Tele with TV Jones Filtertrons, and a Seymour Duncan lipstick Strat. Amazing clean tone and really good pedal platform. I have an Eminence GA-SC64 Alesandro 12-inch speaker in there now, but also loved the Cannabis Rex it came with (plan to put that in a speaker cab). A little over 30 lbs. so great weight and not hard to lug around. My sales engineer, Matt Masek, was extremely helpful (as per his usual). No regrets on this amp - it's a keeper.

First time customer.
Met Tyler on the phone. My son Dillon Brown introduced us. Great guy who took his time with us and answered all our questions. We are very satisfied with the fender 65 princeton amp. My son has been a customer of Sweetwater for a long time and always received the best advice and service from them then any other companies he's dealt with.

Princeton Reverb Sweetwater modded is awesome!
So, some background, I've owned several Princetons over the years. But this one is definitely a desert island Fender amp to me. The reverb is super lush, sounds great with the rex speaker. Really nice clarity. But! The tremolo is sooooo nice and smooth and I say that as someone who isn't the biggest tremolo fan. Mix that with some verb and I'm able to pull some nice country and clean tones out of it easily. I'm so happy Sweetwater decided to produce this for us. One thing that is missing from the product page is a good demo video though ;)This is definitely my favorite version of this timeless classic.
I love it.
My first tube amp. Really great item. No regrets.
Music background: Just beginning guitar lessons. 70 years old and retired. Always wanted to learn how to play the guitar and now I have the time.
