Floor-based Power for Your Pedal-based Rig

Seymour Duncan's PowerStage 170 is a miniature power amplifier that is engineered to attain the best tone and performance from your pedal-based electric guitar rig. Small enough to fit right on your pedalboard, the PowerStage 170 pumps out an astounding 170 watts — more than enough to power any combination of guitar cabinets. And the onboard 3-band EQ makes it extremely versatile, no matter what pedals you are using for your front end. The PowerStage 170 is the performing guitarist's new favorite tool.

Note: This device is intended to drive a speaker cabinet and should not be placed in front of an amplifier or pedals.

170 watts of clean power

More and more guitarists are getting hip to the great guitar tones that can be achieved by running their favorite guitar pedals — especially the amp-in-a-box variety — directly into a great power amplifier. That's exactly what the PowerStage 170 is designed for. By utilizing this setup, your stompbox tones receive enough juice to scream through anything from a compact 1 x 12-inch cab to a 4 x 12-inch cab. This makes the PowerStage 170 a favorite among traveling guitarists who rely on rented backlines and many of the gigging players around Sweetwater.

Convenient size

Unlike the heavy and large solid-state power amplifiers of the past, the Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170 is housed in a compact and attractive enclosure that will nestle right in with your other pedals. Not only that, but the PowerStage 170 is a featherweight. When you're done pummeling your audience's ears at the gig, simply pack up your pedalboard, and your amp is taken care of, too.

Plenty of tone-shaping power

The Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170 is engineered to get the most from your pedalboard. And thanks to a powerful 3-band EQ, it also sounds great as its own clean channel. The onboard 3-band EQ works with the power stage to match up to any cabinet. No matter what you're running on the floor, the PowerStage 170 will handle it flawlessly.

Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170 Features:

  • Compact amp for a pedal-based guitar rig
  • 170W of power is enough for any type of performance
  • Small enough to fit in a backpack or right on your pedalboard
  • 3-band EQ in the power section for dialing in your ideal tone
  • Allows you to use your pedals as the rig's front end

Reviews

Awesome, works great with Friedman IR-X
Had Ac hum issues with other power amp pedals. I knew from the get go I should have just dumped the money on this one. Dedicated AC circuit, no noise other than that tube sizzle at high volumes. Running this in to the EVH 2x12 cab and it sounds absolutely amazing. Extremely happy with my purchase.

Amazing power amp!
This is a clean sounding power amp and more then enough sound for any situation! It sits perfectly on my pedal board and now I don't have to worry about hauling a heavy amp head around for gigs! Love this product and definitely recommend!
Very nice
This amp has lots of power and very clear sound so it pairs very well with effects
Amazing little amp, especially for modelers.
I've been playing in bands since the mid-80's, doing so professionally since 1989. My current band plays original alternative/punk/metal, whatever you want to call it, it's a rock band.

I've been using a Line6 Helix since it hit the market, and was powering it using Line6's PowerSource L2t powered amp... it was extremely loud and sounded good but I eventually realized I was missing something- it's usually referred to as "pushing air", the thump that you can feel in your chest, that you normally only get from a traditional guitar cab.
I found the perfect thing in the Matrix Elements Neolight 2x12, but it's unpowered, so I needed to find an amp that played well with modelers.

I originally went with an ISP Technologies Stealth Pro power-amp, which is a very similar product. It sounded great, but had a couple design flaws- especially the fact that it's powered by the same kind of cheap AC unit most laptops use. The Powerstage 170 has a more professional and desirable grounded output and the controls are on TOP instead of the front like with the ISP- perfect for easy access sitting on a 2x12.

Long-story-short, the thing KILLS. I honestly have no idea how they made such a loud, uncolored, powerful amp in a little box weighing only 2 pounds. The EQ is incredibly useful and this unit pairs with the Helix perfectly. Volume-wise, I've never needed to go higher than the 60% mark to hang with my drummer and our other guitarist's 100-watt 5150/4x12. I've been using it onstage for about 5 months now and couldn't be happier... my back likes it too. My entire rig can fit in the trunk of my car now.

I should point out that there is a small amount of noise put out by the 170's onboard fan, but to me it's a non-issue... we NEVER play THAT quiet. Anyway, it's a 5 out of 5 for me, hats off to Seymour Duncan for another fine product.
Music background: 30-plus years playing professionally.
