The MXR Phase 90 is one of the most famous phase shifters ever created and found its way into the rigs of countless guitar legends over the last four decades. Aside from its classic orange casing, the Phase 90 is instantly recognizable thanks to the unmistakable script logo. The '74 Vintage Phase 90 is a re-creation of a Phase 90 purchased in 1974 by Dunlop Senior Engineer Bob Cedro and constructed from a hand-wired board and hand-matched FETs to match the tone of the original. Get classic tone from the '74 Vintage Phase 90. Note: 9V battery operation only. No input for external power supply.

THE Phaser!

These are great! That classic 70's phase shifter sound. They sound as good as a vintage one at a price a musician can afford. This was a great addition to my pedal board. Don't worry that there is no 9v adaptor jack. Just use a power cable with the 9v battery snap. Leave the bottom plate off. And fasten velcro to the bottom with the bottom plate screws. I've done it for years with vintage pedals. And now that I can't afford vintage pedals, the MXR 1974 Phase 90 is perfect! If you need a phaser, this is the one to buy!

It's pretty easy to review an item like this.

I went down the rabbit hole of phasers. I looked at comparable vintage type phasers. I looked at newer boutique phasers. I looked at all of the current MXR Phasers & came back to ground zero. Some phasers sound "cleaner". Some have more options & variables. But, in the end, if you want that classic "Phase 90" sound, made the best way possible, the 74' Script Phase 90 is "it". & for those with a Tone Master amp, it plays well with these amps at any volume. Love the simplicity & sound of the Script Phase 90!

This is the one!

Ok, so I've had the regular Phase 90, the Whirlwind, and a few other phasers. I was on the search for the Holy Grail of phase tone, like that famous Gilmour sound, and it lead me to the 1974 Phase 90. Vintage ones were going for about $400 used and I believe this one sounds just as good! Don't sweat that this unit is powered by battery as you can have Analogman but a 9v power connection to it so you can power it with your isolated power supply. Even many vintage ones had this mod... If you are looking for that famous tone that only this pedal can do, this is it! I even liked this more than the Phase 95 variants. Even Analogman himself says this unit sounds as good as the original! You won't be disappointed and wish you would have got this earlier!

Hidden Treasure

If youre using a power unit that has terminals that replicate battery sag try it. You can dial in some nice sounds. I tried it with a 1970's original running at about half power with great results. Should work on this reissue if its true to the same design.

The right one for me.

I listened to all versions of this Phaser in head to head reviews on line, and notice it had the softest effect of them all. After hooking it up at home, I found the effect to be stronger then I expected, but manageable for my taste. The effect on the other versions would have been too strong. I'm happy with my choice.
