Streamlined Next-generation Analog Patchbay with Full Digital Control

The Flock Audio Patch is a digitally controlled analog patchbay with hardware and software components that allow you to control equipment chain routings throughout your studio with flexibility and recall capabilities never before possible — no patch cables required! The hardware consists of a 32-point analog patchbay in a rugged 1RU chassis with I/O arranged on rear-panel DB-25 connectors. Control over patchbay assignments and routings is carried out from Patch App, easy-to-use Mac/Windows software that communicates with the patchbay via USB. In Patch, no audio is ever converted to digital — all channels running through it remain in the analog domain and only the patchbay routings are altered digitally. Patch gives you the advantages of both worlds — pure analog audio with full digital, computer-based control. This allows Patch App routings to be instantly stored and recalled.

Front-panel connectors and 16 channels of phantom power

The Patch hardware offers some cool extras. Input and output connections for Channel 16 are located on front-panel 1/4"-XLR combi jacks, so you can instantly patch equipment into your system. These are swappable in software between front and rear panel connectors. And 16 of the Patch’s connections can be supplied with switchable 48V phantom power for microphones that require it. All of this — and more — is controlled through Flock Audio’s companion Patch app.

Control analog audio routings right from your computer

Engineers at Sweetwater know that your studio patching system is a make-or-break proposition that can either streamline or tie your workflow up in knots. Elegantly designed, finely tuned, and intuitively powerful, the Patch app brings the simplicity of drag and drop functionality — along with patch storage, full recall, and advanced multing capabilities — to the world of analog audio routing. The Flock Audio Patch app lets you accomplish basic or complex analog audio routings in seconds. Patch LT uses the same Flock Audio Matrix Technology as the company’s flagship Patch routing system, relied on by audio engineers worldwide. Bring the

Reviews

Is it worth it – really?
Patch lt – in-depth review

I wanted to give an in-depth review on the patch lt version after my experience with it and see if I can answer any questions potential buyers may have in deciding if it is right for you. I had owned the patch lt for about 15 months, and yes I said "had" owned since I recently let it go in a sale, which I will get to the reasons why.

First of all I would say it's a great piece of hardware and its great to use it as a digital switcher within mastering and to make chains and mults of chains to try different scenarios with multiple gear. With that said I mainly bought it as this case scenario to be used as a switch box digitally for mastering. I actually never tried it for vocal recording/auditioning because when you turn on the machine it does have a noise floor, even though not noticeable it does make the meters jump in my other analog gear when switched on, something I was not too keen of from day 1; especially when you are buying high end gear not to have any noise in the signal. I don't believe it affected my signal path though, but again some other reviewers may have said its not good for tracking vocals for instance.

The interface is db25 which I believe is fine for high quality sound.

My cons:
Let's start here, why after sitting in my rack and seeing less to no use but to hang out there. The interface is db25 and my audio recorder interface is also db25, so I'm taking up 8 channels just to come to the patch, so it cuts down my channel ability to connect 8 mono or 4 stereo. If my interface was say, xlr in/out then I could maximize the amount of gear I could hook-up to this – say 2 in/2 out and then it would give me the opportunity for 6 mono or 3 more stereo units.

My mastering setup changed and I don't have a super abundance of gear at the moment.

As for tracking I just go from Shelford pre to the cl1b then into my interface, so the signal is clear and doesn't pass through this patch box. Then since my interface has 8 channels of I/O through db25 its ample just to chain in that or hookup my mastering gear individually.

The price may be a con for someone new. For me its ok for what you're getting, compare to analog switchers. But for the above reasons if one is deciding on this system the regular patch is probably a better choice, since it gives more in/outs when you have a db25 recording interface.

The new app subscription. I think it should be free since we already bought the hardware.

Pros:
Good for if you have a lot of analog gear and want to switch things around and not do it with cables (that is patching).
Good if you don't have a db25 sound interface, as it eats the channels for hooking up gear and expanding to other patch models would be pointless in expense.
Easy to use/setup.

A better choice:
The regular patch… why? More I/O.

Verdict:
I sold it after contemplating a future use of it. One less box to pass through and less cabling to hook it up. I hope this helps better understand if its worth it for you or not. I give it 5 stars as it does what it says but it's just not for me and my setup.
