A Versatile, Single-channel Fire-breather

The original Friedman PT has long been a top-selling tube combo, delivering the sound of a 100-watt, EL34-powered monster in a pint-size, 20-watt, EL84-fueled package. The PT V2 exhibits the same fire-breathing sound as its predecessor but with a larger speaker and greater sonic flexibility. This guitar amplifier produces the full gamut of tones, from classic rock chime to hard rock crunch to heavy metal thunder. You get a 3-band EQ for dialing in your basic tone, along with a Fat switch for thicker textures and a Sat switch for heavier saturation. You also get a 3-position S switch for absolute control over the PT V2's gain structure. This 1-channel dynamo includes a Celestion G12M Creamback speaker for a distinctive British-flavored character and an ultra-transparent effects loop for easy integration with your pedals and outboard effects. Musicians searching for a versatile single-channel tube amp will find everything they're looking for in the Friedman PT V2 — and then some.

All the tones in a single-channel amp

Players looking for a single-channel tube amp that does it all will be mightily pleased by the PT V2. This tube combo tackles blues, classic rock, and metal with equal aplomb. All you need to do is adjust the amp's gain, and every tone imaginable will be at your fingertips. Want classic rock crunch? Lower the PT V2's gain, bring up the master volume, and kick in the Fat switch for a nice, thick growl. Aiming for heavy metal chug? Increase the amp's gain and kick in the Sat switch for an aggressive, saturated sound. You also get a 3-position S switch, which tailors the overall gain structure of the amplifier to your individual tastes. A flexible 3-band EQ is also on tap.

Delivers authoritative, tube-infused character

There are many Friedman BE-100 aficionados here at Sweetwater — we love the undeniable potency of that legendary, 100-watt beast. The PT V2 packs this same sound into a lightweight combo. Don't believe that a 20-watt, EL84-loaded combo can deliver the same heady punch as a 100-watt, EL34-loaded amp? Plug into the PT V2, and you'll be instantly proven wrong. Thanks to custom-made transformers and capacitors, this compact guitar amplifier delivers the goods, with the tight bottom end and muscular midrange you'd normally associate with a much larger amp. Plug in, crank it up, and the Friedman PT V2 will reward you with harmonic-laden chords, resonating leads, and a persuasive crunch that cleans up exceptionally well with your guitar's volume knob.

Loaded with a Celestion G12M Creamback speaker

The PT V2 is ready to rumble, courtesy of a 12-inch Celestion G12M Creamback speaker. This speaker captures the iconic sound of Celestion's '60s and '70s models, yielding a meaty tone replete with complex, full-bodied character, creamy mids, and vintage-tinged highs. Beyond that, this speaker's low-end thump is second to none. By virtue of its Celestion G12M Creamback speaker, the PT V2 epitomizes the best elements of classic, British-flavored guitar tones.

Friedman PT V2 Features:

  • The "baby sister" of Friedman's lauded BE-100 amplifier
  • Custom-made transformers and capacitors deliver a sound akin to a 100W, EL34-powered monster

Amazing amp
Awesome little amp, love with my Bad bob boost and archer pedal in front, but not needed. Sounds massive with my 2x12 box open back can with greenbacks
This is the one
This is the sound of rock & roll. Single channel, straight up British mod. Very rich, harmonic, percussive with sag and really opens up past 2 on master. Definitely can tell there's a custom transformer, sounds much larger than other el84 power sections that I have not had great results with. Cabinet sounds large, and the structure/sat switches make this feel like much more than a single channel.

Very impressed and keeping long term. Can't say enough good things, just wow. This things rips and is the tone in my head, personally.
Fire breathing tiny beast
My main amp has been a Friedman BE50 head for years. I purchased the PT v2 for smaller venues and to save my back from lugging a cabinet and head around. All I can say is, Holy Hell. Phenominal amp in all respects. Don't be afraid of the single channel, it cleans up nicely with the guitar volume rolled back. Takes pedals in front and in the effects loops as good as any amp I've played. The single cream back has a nice smoothness to it compared to the v30s in my 2x12. Don't hesitate to get this little fire breather. It's much more amp and sound than you can possibly imagine.
Music background: Gigging musician.
Awesome Sounds!
Yes, it is expensive, but my goodness, the sound is just amazing!!! The YouTube videos just don't do it justice. It is full and rich and the harmonic content is just off the charts.

I pre-ordered this a while ago, and by the time it showed up, I had cooled off on it a bit. That was a mistake because as soon as I plugged in and started playing, I got an ear-to-ear grin that I am still wearing!

One comment: the Fat switch does not sound great with a humbucker-equipped guitar. Too dark and muddy. Probably better suited to a Strat with single coils. Unfortunately, my Strat is in pieces as I just refinished it and it is curing now for 2 weeks before I can reassemble it and test it.

With the combo unit, the speaker output jacks and the effects loop jacks are facing downward and are a bit hard to access. I plan on labeling the back of the cabinet so I know where the effects loop jacks are so I don't have to contort my head and neck trying to look underneath.

Those small niggles aside, this is a first-class amp that you need to hear to believe.
Music background: Experienced pro. Playing 50 years, pro for 40.
