PAF Cleans with Filter'Tron Characteristics

TV Jones Power'Trons meld the smooth, silken voice of a golden-age PAF with the rockabilly twang of a late-'50s/early-'60s Filter'Tron. As a set, these humbuckers boast a full body and clear top end that dynamic players are sure to enjoy. Digging in reveals a chunky low-end breakup that sounds great through a tube amp. The secret is a narrow bobbin aperture that keeps bass notes tight and punchy, along with specially spaced pole screws for clean note separation from string to string. Compared to a TV Classic, the Power'Tron neck pickup is darker and somewhat gnarlier, with more windings — as much as a PAF humbucker — for hotter output. The bridge position Power'Tron is even hotter for greater variety as a set and a more aggressive tone on its own. Each sold separately.

TV Jones: handmade, relic-grade pickups

Tom V. Jones's ear for pickups — particularly Gretsch designs of the 1950s and '60s — has earned him a clientele that today includes Brian Setzer, Billy Gibbons, Keith Urban, The Reverend Horton Heat, and Gretsch itself. These pickups are obsessively hand built from the finest parts available, using vintage-spec alnico magnets and voice-tailored metal pole screws. But unlike classic pickups, TV Jones pickups are lightly wax saturated to reduce microphonic feedback onstage. When you want to capture the distinctive look and flavor of the mid-last century, guitarists at Sweetwater proudly recommend TV Jones pickups.

Reviews

Outstanding tone and sustain breaks up creamy and smooth
I purchased these for a guitar I use for worship and jazz. Its no secret that these are the pick ups of Nigel Hendroff long time guitar player for Hillsong. So I picked them up and replaced the PRS SE 85/15s in my Custom 24 SE. I have another Korean SE and compared the 2. WOW!!! HUGE improvement IMO. Dont get me wrong I love my Korean SE and will not touch the pickups. I still use it for rock/shred but for Worship and Jazz these PUPS are great. You can pull out a growl that sustains and the overdrive breaks up slow and creamy. Just right! So now I bought the Powertron Neck and it should be here tomorrow. Cant wait!
Music background: Instructor, composer, recording, and worship musician.
