Presentation Series Refinery Courtesy of the Urban Wood Initiative

Part of Taylor’s prestigious Presentation series, this PS14ce Urban Ironbark brandishes a distinctive tonewood pairing that combines old-growth elegance with the sustainability of urban ironbark. Also known as red ironbark, the urban ironbark back and sides of this PS14ce were responsibly harvested as part of Taylor’s urban wood initiative. This tonewood rings with a voice that Taylor likens to a supercharged set of rosewood, yielding enveloping overtones, crystal-clear clarity, and a complex character. The body is then capped with a sinker redwood to provide warmth and a touch-sensitive character that’s sure to thrill dynamic fingerstyle pickers and strummers alike. In typical Taylor fashion, the PS14ce’s neck offers effortless playability, combining a Standard Carve mahogany foundation with a 15-inch-radius ebony fingerboard. Taylor’s ES2 electronics also allow you to plug in and show off your Presentation series creation to the world on the stage. A breathtaking Presentation series trim package finishes this PS14ce off with an heirloom-grade aura, consisting of an intricate shell and tonewood inlay work across the headstock, fingerboard, pickguard, and bridge, along with gorgeous paua/ebony binding and purfling that enwraps both the body and neck.

Rich, resonant, and responsibly sourced tonewoods

Splitting the difference between old-growth prestige and modern sustainability, the PS14ce Urban Ironbark boasts a master-grade set of top-tier tonewoods. A pair of responsibly sourced Urban Ironbark back and sides — also known as red ironbark — provide an exceptionally harmonic-dense response that recalls the tone of rosewood with a firmer, more muscular punch. Topside, a slab of sinker redwood supported by Taylor’s cutting-edge V-Class bracing offers a subtle, dynamic, and thoroughly touch-sensitive feel that rewards even the most tempered pluck or pick with a rush of rich resonance.

V-Class bracing: prodigious volume and sustain

Bracing is the internal framework of an acoustic guitar that helps shape its sound. Although X-bracing has been standard in acoustic guitars for over a century, it creates an innate conflict between two key elements of a guitar’s sound: volume and sustain. The guitar’s top (its soundboard) contributes to both. The flexibility of the top generates volume (projection), while its stiffness generates sustain. And with X-braced guitar tops, here’s where the trade-off comes in: when something is made stiffer, its flexibility is reduced (and vice versa).

V-Class bracing changes all that. With Taylor’s V-Class bracing, an acoustic guitar top can be both stiff and flexible — for more volume and sustain. V-Class bracing provides stiffness parallel to the strings for more rigidity and hence sustain. Flexibility on either side generates the air movement necessary for robust projection. It’s the best of both worlds. This groundbreaking innovation also improves intonation; not only producing notes that are louder and with longer sustain — but more in tune with each other. Guitarists at Sweetwater are blown away. But don’t take our word for it — pick up the superb Taylor PS14ce and experience it for yourself!

Grand Auditorium: comfort, presence, and projection

Taylor’s beloved Grand Auditorium body style, featured on the PS14ce, employs the width and depth of the Dreadnought. However its waist is narrower, which gives Grand Auditorium-bodied acoustic guitars a sleeker look, with more treble zing. The PS14ce’s Grand Auditorium body shape sharpens the definition of each note, balancing out nicely with the excellent projection afforded by its V-Class top bracing. Complementing the playing comfort of the instrument’s narrow waist is its ergonomically beveled armrest, bound in the same Crelicam ebony used for the instrument’s smooth-as-glass fingerboard.

Repurposing California’s public trees, one guitar at a time

Whether its rosewood from India or ebony from Africa, America’s steel-string guitars have long utilized timbers taken from around the globe — often to the detriment of the forests and environments in which these woods grow. To improve the sustainability of their 6-strings and raise environmental awareness, Taylor launched the urban wood initiative, a program by which Taylor harvests the end-of-life trees planted around California’s streets, schools, parks, and public spaces, giving these unique tonewoods a fresh new life as a prestigious Taylor instrument.

Cutting-edge Taylor Expression System 2 electronics

If you play plugged in, you’re going to love the Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics built into your PS14ce. The key to this fantastic system is the 3-section proprietary pickup located behind the saddle. Because of where it’s positioned and how it’s integrated into the guitar’s saddle, the ES2 pickup provides you with remarkably clear and accurate sound. In addition to a master volume control, a pair of tone controls let you tweak your highs and lows to get the sound you need, and a discreet polarity switch offers vital onboard feedback suppression.
