With the collaborative input of Sweetwater’s sound scholars, the Private Stock luthiers spared no effort in curating the tonewoods for this McCarty 594, hand-selecting each piece to ensure Private Stock #10821 has a formidable sonic foundation. An ebony-bound, spalted maple-capped African mahogany body serves as the aural anchor, boasting rich overtones across a balanced dynamic range, delivering shimmering harmonics with a full-spectrum heft that’s focused and illuminated through the spalted maple top. Curly maple is deployed in both the neck and fingerboard, enhancing sustain while imbuing your tones with brightness and warmth that’s augmented by projection and note separation that ensures every register is voiced with clarity and definition.
Electrifying tone-shaping decades in the making
To bring this complex, reactive triumvirate of tonewoods to life, PRS refused to pull its punches with this guitar’s suite of electronics. A 58/15 LT humbucker adorns the neck position, eliciting smoldering, vintage-inspired tones across the spectrum while maintaining an emphasis on the midrange, thanks to its Alnico II magnets. In the bridge, an uncovered 85/15 humbucker supplies uncompromising, full-range precision that ignites at the intersection of classic and cutting-edge, pulling from Paul’s original 1985 design and supercharged by PRS’ TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) technology for laser-focused tuning and unwavering musicality. An ergonomically placed 3-way toggle supports a 4-knob array that includes dedicated volume and tone controls for each pickup.
