Pre-slotted String Nut Replacement

Bring your bass back to life! The Graph Tech TUSQ P Bass-style Slotted String Nut has strong harmonic characteristics such as a clear low end and bell-like highs that will reinvigorate your guitar's sound. The hard, smooth TUSQ material helps ensure strong tuning stability — and it is pre-slotted for hassle-free installation. That's why Sweetwater bassists have been using it for years on their bass guitars. And TUSQ nuts will outlast most organic saddle materials. A Graph Tech TUSQ P Bass-style Slotted String Nut will make your bass a better-sounding and more sonically stable instrument.

Harmonically lively with consistent density

The TUSQ nut material has been laboratory tested and proven to provide up to 200% more harmonic resonance and up to 16% longer sustain than natural bone or ivory. With TUSQ, you get structural integrity and consistent density that bone nuts just cannot offer. The Graph Tech TUSQ P Bass-style Slotted String Nut is a first-choice replacement part.

Pre-slotted for your P Bass-style Bass neck

This TUSQ nut is the perfect option for replacing the nut on your P Bass-style bass guitar. It will work with either a flat-bottomed slot or one with a curved bottom. It's pre-slotted, so you won't have to spend your valuable time filing down those string slots. That leaves you more time for making music!

Graph Tech TUSQ P Bass-style Slotted String Nut Features:

  • Upgrade/replacement nut for your P-Bass style bass guitar's neck
  • Compatible with both flat-bottomed nut slots and curved nut slots

Reviews

P-Bass nut review. Easiest nut swap I've ever done!
I needed to replace the nut on my MIJ '83 Squier P-Bass, original simply broke due to age.
I've used Tusq nuts before on guitars, Teles & Strats. This was the easiest one yet!
The height was a DEAD-ON match for the original....I was shocked. Usually they're just a millimeter or a fraction of a millimeter taller that needed so you can tailor the height to your needs. This one only needed a little sanding on the side to be able to fit into the nut slot of the neck....that's it. Seriously, this took ten minutes. I wouldn't expect most to go this quickly, my past pre-slotted nut swaps took as much as a hour...but this one was beyond easy.
Pre-slotted, fit the string gauge I use perfectly, 90-105 flatwounds. Larger gauges may need some filing.
Some hints for the inexperienced:
1) to fit into curved nut slot, lay sandpaper across fret board at either 1st or 2nd fret & sand back & forth. This will ensure the radius will match fretboard.
2) string slots have a slight angle to them. The downward angle faces the tuners! On this one, that was the printed side.
3) DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE!
4) DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE!
5) DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE!
6) wood glue or simple Elmer's does the trick. Only use a COUPLE of drops...DO NOT fill the slot with glue. It's messy & will make replacing a nut in the future a nightmare. Just a couple of drops, then restring and tune to pitch. The strings hold the nut in place, the glue is most needed for string changes to keep it in place when not being held in place by strings.
7) use rough sandpaper for fitting, fine sandpaper to smooth the surface out.

It's really....really easy to do this mod/repair since the nut is pre-slotted. Even if you screw it up and have to buy another nut or even two...it's still cheaper than having it done by a pro. Lots of YouTube videos out there will walk you through this.
Music background: Moderately marginal guitarist...but I know maintenance & mods & finishing pretty well. I may not be able to play it, but I can fix it.
Tusq XL Precision bass
Wow was I really surprised that this little bitty piece of fake ivory would make such a difference, but it does and I installed it in my 50's CV P Bass without any problems. Better tone, sustain, and it tunes up better and faster than ever before. I'm going to change out my Fender Jazz, and my Fender Jaguar, and maybe my acoustic bass too? I'm sure I will pretty soon too. No hype about it it's a fact that you are most likely going to like it and maybe a lot?!
Music background: Up and down and all around
Check your measurements
The product itself is high quality. Shipped fast and was easy to install. However note that you want to check your measurements. I ordered this but I have a Jazz bass, not a P bass, and it was too big.
Music background: Guitarist, Producer.
