A Unique Flip Mute for Your Snare

Mutes come in all shapes and sizes, from a variety of materials, and can be located in a number of spots around your drum. But Pearl has a unique solution for snare-top dampening: the Drum Key Flip Mute. Simply attach the die-cast and chrome-plated drum key to the top of any tension rod, like you would while tuning, and lay the leather strap across the head of your drum. Drummers around Sweetwater are particularly fond of the included coin pocket, enabling nuanced dampening of various degrees for a totally customized sound at a range of dynamic levels. And when you no longer need a dampened tone, flip it backward and off the head to return to your drum’s natural tone. It’s that easy!

Pearl Drum Key Flip Mute Features:

  • Die-cast and chrome-plated drum key fits snuggly on any tension rod
  • Durable leather mute engages an ideal dampened sound
  • Coin pocket enables further dampening customization
  • Caters to a range of dynamic levels
  • A great choice for your snare, but can outfit other drums in your kit as well

DRUM KEY
COOL KEY!! MY FAVORITE YET!!
perfect
when working with the great Mutt Lang, he was a stickler about the toms ringing while playing. He created what we called the "mutt" flap. basically the same thing as this pearl. What he and Paul Leim did was take duct tape and a cymbal felt and did the design as this. while you are playing it keeps the ringing of the toms down, and when you hit the tom it flaps up to let the tone out and then comes back down.
It works perfectly!!

I made a better mute at home
This mute is a waste of money.
Unless you use a key with a one magnet inside it, the thing bounce off at the first accented note.
I made a better mute at home with scrap leather for about fifty cents and a half hour of my time.

Trash
I bought this mute and wasted my money. The concept appears to be a good idea but when you put the mute on and hit the drum the mute bounces around on the snare head. Next try and weight it by squeezing in a Quarter or a nickel. Still bounces. I had tested this product to bring the weight to 3 ounces and it still bounces off the head. This is not a mute at all. You would be better to use tone gel or a O-Ring on your snare. Pearl Mute is not recommended.
