Looking to give your podcast or streaming setup a much-needed microphone upgrade? The PreSonus PD-70 is what you've been searching for! This dynamic cardioid broadcast microphone is a surefire way to capture smooth, rich vocals every time. While it's an excellent choice for vocals, the PD-70 is extremely versatile. It can be used on bass and guitar cabinets, toms, snares, and much more. An integrated hard-mount yoke and included close-talk windscreen let you get right up on the mic in whatever position is most comfortable. One thing's for sure: the PreSonus PD-70 will make an excellent addition to any podcast, livestream, radio broadcast, or mic locker. Get yours now!

Excellent in any environment

Wherever you're recording, the PD-70 ensures that your voice comes through crystal clear. The mic's cardioid polar pattern showcases excellent off-axis rejection, which is a fancy way of saying that unwanted sounds like street rumble and the AC unit kicking on will be left behind. The PD-70's great sound is only one of the reasons why users at Sweetwater like the mic so much. We also loved the built-in swiveling yoke that allows for almost any mic position you can imagine. Whether you've got it connected to your broadcast stand or a standard mic stand, your mic placement will always be on point.

PreSonus PD-70 Dynamic Cardioid Broadcast Microphone Features:

  • Broadcast microphone for vocals and more
  • Tailored frequency response provides exceptional clarity for vocals, guitars, basses, and drums
  • Cardioid polar pattern rejects off-axis sounds
  • Durable construction stands up to a lifetime of use and abuse

If you like the SM7B body style and the Rode Procaster sound, THIS is the mic you've been waiting for!

I've been using a Rode Procaster for a while now and love the sound of the mic. I originally wanted the Shure SM7B because I really like the form factor, but the SM7B's darker tone (which required a good bit of high-end boost) was a deal-breaker. I bought the Presonus PD-70 initially because of it's low price and the very slick form factor... That's when I got the surprise of my life.

If it is NOT the the same mic capsule as the Rode Procaster in the PD-70, I'll eat my hat. Seriously.

Either they used the same capsule, or found a clone of the Rode Procaster capsule and used that. The Presonus PD-70 sounds identical to the Rode Procaster. Skeptical? Watch the attached video... This is a STEREO comparison with the PD-70 on one side and the Procaster on the other.

Build quality: I think this actually IMPROVES on the SM7B because the XLR connector is part of the mic housing instead of being a separate connector. This mic is so good I immediately bought a second one because I think once people understand what it really is, it will be hard to find in stock.

Excellent budget broadcast microphone

My setup is an SM7b and a PD-70 on boom stands clamped to a desk, both running into a MOTU interface. The pairing is used mostly for a two-person podcast recorded in a (mostly) treated room fairly close together. I couldn't justify the cost of another SM7 at this time but wanted something with similar properties.

People are not kidding when they say that this thing is bright compared to an SM7. Even with the presence switch engaged on the SM7, the PD-70 has a fair bit more on the high end. I actually might prefer the PD-70 for our female host because it's fairly crisp for a broadcast mic without sounding harsh, but the tone profiles on these two mics are different enough that I would almost like to swap out my SM7 for better consistency. I find myself having to add some air to the SM7 to balance out the dialog. We're able to record without an additional pop filter and don't suffer from too many issues with plosives or proximity effect.

It doesn't have quite the rejection quality of an SM7, and it still needs a fair amount of gain. I'm running my SM7 behind a Cloudlifter and I'll probably get another to make the most out of the PD-70.

Overall this is a great budget broadcast microphone that excels at what it's meant to do. I like it much more than other options in the same price range like the Rode PodMic. If you're looking to pair something with an SM7, this is a decent option but requires some fiddling. If you're just starting out and need one or more budget microphones for podcasting, streaming, Zoom meetings, etc. this is a no-brainer.

So far so good! Solid and sounds good.

Using this for podcasting primarily. First, it has a great response and a warm full sound. The response climbs in the 4k-10kHz region an is pretty flat in lower frequencies prior. It makes the PD-70 ideal for my baritone vocals.
Second, the PD-70 is a solid mic, with a nice weight to it, much like the standard in broadcast mics costing much more. The included (attached from the factory) arm bracket is equally well made, and I appreciate the engineering and simple side angle adjustment. The body of the mic is 2 1/4 inches in diameter, so forget trying to use a standard size shock mount. Finally, It still takes a fair amount of gain to drive the PD-70. I would not use it with any interface or mixer that has less than 60dB on tap. With a MOTU M4 (USB bus powered interface) I am driving the input about 75% (3/4) open to hit recording levels I desire without having to make post recording changes. Time will tell, but whether you are beginning, or have higher end broadcast mics that you don't want to take into the field I believe the PD-70 is a sound first or backup choice.

PreSonus Pd-70

Love this mic. So transparent! I use it for live application & studio work. It captures the voice so well and doesn't add any character to it. All the mics i have used have been muddy. So glad i purchased this!

Best on the market for the price point

I recently picked these up for bands to use during rehearsals but then tried them on toms, kick and snare for recording… wow, for $ mic they really have a ton of flexibility and great frequency range. Planning to buy 4 more. Def worth having in your mic locker!

Sweetwater and PreSonus go way back, and that makes a lot of sense. Like Sweetwater, PreSonus is largely staffed by active musicians, songwriters, live sound techs, and engineers, and like Sweetwater, their culture shows up in everything they do. Early on, PreSonus broke ground by offering super-affordable audio interfaces that brought quality recording to home studio engineers everywhere. In the following years, we've been with them as they introduced a powerful, artist-friendly DAW, groundbreaking digital mixers, and more - all products we at Sweetwater use ourselves. One thing that's never changed, even as PreSonus has branched out into new territory, is that they've always done everything possible to provide you with the best value, and we're proud to stand by their products.
