A Snare Pad as Advanced as Your V-Drums

The heart of any modern drum kit, acoustic or electronic, is the snare drum. So it makes sense to invest in a pad that's as sophisticated as your sound module. Enter the 14" Roland PD-140DS V-Drums snare. Eight sensors across the head and rim accurately translate your performance to your V-Drums brain. This means fat backbeats, cutting rimshots, delicate ghost notes and brush sweeps, and cross-sticks that connect every time. And because of its 14" diameter, the Roland PD-140DS transitions seamlessly between your acoustic kit and back. Particular about your tuning? So are we at Sweetwater. Fortunately, the PD-140DS's 8-lug design and 3-ply mesh head make it easy to dial in whatever level of tightness or sponginess you desire.

Roland PD-140DS V-Drums 14" Digital Snare Drum Features:
  • Roland's most advanced snare pad so far
  • 14" size plays like an acoustic snare drum
  • 8 high-resolution sensors across the drumhead and rim pick up the emotion in your performance:
    • Big backbeats
    • Meaty rimshots
    • Delicate ghost notes
    • Graceful brush sweeps
    • Accurate buzzes and flams
    • Real cross-sticks using your natural hand technique
  • 3-ply mesh head is comfortable, quiet, and customizable
  • 8 lugs provide the tightness or sponginess you desire
  • Includes connection cable and drum key
  • Digital Trigger Output is compatible with the TD-27 and TD-50 modules
Unleash the full emotion in your performance with the Roland V-Drums PD-140DS snare pad!
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

This is the snare you need for EDrums
This is without a doubt the best e-drum snare on the market. I tried a few others including the PD120 and Alesis Strike Pro SE snare as well as my own DIY 14" snare. The Roland PD140DS is the best option for the best tone and most accurate triggering. It's also the most expensive e-drum snare there is. For my use, I use it on an acoustic to electronic conversion drum set. The 14 inch diameter really gives you that authentic snare size while you're playing. There is just something about hitting a 14 inch snare that feels correct. The mesh heads are still not anything like a single ply coated head, but they're pretty good. What seals the deals is the triggering. On this snare, with my TD 27 module, positional was sensing is amazing. It does a great job at highlighting my inaccurate off-center snare strikes! You can pull back a little bit and get great realistic rimshot cracks. Cross sticking, something I don't use very often, is accurate and works very well. The drum itself seems durable and I don't think I'm going to wear through it too quickly. I'm not sure it would hold up to years of abuse, unlike my Pearl free-floating snare, which is over 20 years old. At least right now, the drum is durable, sounds great, and triggers perfectly. The only thing I did out of the box was to tighten the snare head up about two cranks, to give it a much tighter head, which is typically how I setup my acoustic snares. The mesh head just isn't the same as a coated head. I will learn to live with that. The rest of this drum is excellent. In order to use this snare drum, it must be connected to the Roland TD 27 or TD 50 using the USB cable. It will not work with any other module. clearly, if you don't have those modules, the snare drum is not for you.

This digital square is well worth the money. It plays well sounds just like a acoustic snare There $ is a little high, but I'm well pleased.

Nice and big like a real drum. Sits well even with a KV30 kit.
PD-140 DS is amazing!
This snare is the most realistic electronic drum I have ever played. The PD-140DS picks up every subtle nuance from the sticks; the rolls/rim shots are just like an acoustic snare.

Amazing, Simply Amazing.
The PD-140DS from Roland came stock with my TD-50K Kit.

The response, speed, feel, and sensitivity are just on a whole new level. (Yes, I know it's a lot to shell out for the TD-50, but if you're serious about your sound and feel, it's worth it). If you don't have the cash, then you've got a new toy to save for ;)

Technology is growing, rapidly. This is a fact. With this rapid growth comes beefy computer processors that are getting more and more powerful, and increasingly affordable. The TD-50 has an insanely powerful processing engine that allows this snare (and Digital 18" Ride) to respond with amazing sensitivity and speed. I've watched a lot of demos and read a lot of tech specs on the TD-50, and the new Digital Pads. There's really nothing out there that comes close. If you're on a budget, it's understandable to shy away, but if you're not, then why compromise?

This is a big leap forward, and a future proof purchase. Well worth it if you can afford the price.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
