Sonic Precision from Squier: A Perfect Launchpad for New Talent!

With the Squier Sonic Precision Bass, iconic bass guitar tone and a reliable instrument are just a few clicks away! This full-size bass is a great pick for beginners of any age or young players who have outgrown a child-size bass. Rightfully based on Fender’s original bass guitar, the Sonic Precision features a resonant poplar body with a slick gloss finish. Who says beginners don’t deserve a great-looking instrument? Not us! The Sonic Precision’s one-piece maple neck and fingerboard allow smooth exploration of all 20 frets, making for enjoyable practice or jam sessions as skills evolve. The Sonic Precision Bass is plenty reliable and outfitted with durable chrome hardware plus some extra touches like a synthetic bone nut. Without getting deep in technical talk, hardware touches like these are what keep Squier basses one of the top-selling beginner instruments here at Sweetwater. It’s a tried-and-true design further enhanced with new refinements including a vintage-inspired, modern-voiced single-coil pickup equipped with powerful ceramic magnets. It’s tough to find a better bet than a Squier Sonic Precision Bass!

Iconic sound, modernized with ceramic

Just because the Sonic Precision Bass has a single lone pickup doesn’t mean its range is limited! The Precision Bass pickup sound fuels countless rhythm sections past and present spanning vastly different styles such as hard rock, pop, reggae, and punk. Achieving pop-punk’s trebly plink, metal’s heavy chugs, or even reggae’s thick, wide thud is fast and easy with just a few tweaks to the Sonic P’s tone control. This spread of versatile tones get a final punchy boost from the pickup’s modern ceramic magnets. Expect familiar sounds, but with a little extra heft that’s comes in handy when connecting to multi-effect pedals or a USB recording interface.

Maple neck for fast fretting

With its glassy maple neck and fingerboard, the Squier Sonic Precision is fast-fretting player across all 20 frets. From pros to beginners, players value the slick speed maple provides. The Sonic P’s neck features a “C” shape, a modern standard that’s comfortable for most players, plus a protective and smooth satin finish as a finishing touch. Many believe that a maple neck and fingerboard adds “brightness” to your tone, which is especially handy once you’re ready to leap out of the pocket and into the spotlight with tasty bass solos or riffs.

Squier Sonic Precision Bass Features:

  • Authentic Precision Bass looks and tone at a great price
  • Solid poplar body with a gloss finish
  • Smooth “C-shape” maple neck, satin-finished for comfort

AWESOME! Best bang for the buck!

Before I wrote this review, I wanted to test it out first to be accurate. I've had this bass on preorder and received it a few weeks ago. I have to say that this definitely is the best value out there for an affordable 4 string bass guitar! I am actually amazed! Unless I got that diamond in the rough, I did not have to touch this guitar at all! I tuned it up and was happy with the factory set up. The frets are also fine on the guitar, not 1 sharp fret and the height is perfect! The sound of this bass is actually not bad at all. I play rock and metal and this has all the tone I need. I bought this bass for a cheap back up when I gig, one that I won't cry about if something happens to it. I had to give this 5 stars! For the price you just wouldn't expect the bone nut, the open vintage tuners, the feel of the neck and playability, the finish etc. I really have nothing bad to say about this bass at all lol. I actually texted my rep the day it came in and told him how surprised I was! I have switched back and forth from standard tuning to Eb, to drop D with no issues. Every time I take this bass out of its case, it has stayed in tune or pretty much close to it. In closing, if you're still reading this lol you can purchase this bass with confidence. Don't let the price fool you, for what this bass is… you will not be disappointed. I hope this review helps someone in making a decision.

Super Great Value, but one pretty big issue......

Bought this on a whim. I'm glad I did. It's a great looking and sounding bass. Man, I just hate giving it 4 out of 5 stars, but I'm super disappointed with the finish work, or lack thereof, on the neck. Every single fret, all the way down the neck, on BOTH sides has terrible fret sprout. Guaranteed getting cut open if you slide your fingers up or down. I have the tools and know-how to dress the frets, so I have no plans to return it. I'm pretty sure this is not a very common issue, as I have read reviews over on TalkBass about how nice these are and I believe them.
As for the rest of this.....this particular bass weighs 8lb 2oz....pretty light and comfortable. I'm also impressed with the sound of the pickup....no plans on "upgrading" it any time soon...it stands on its own. I wasn't really expecting the poplar body to look the greatest, but it is, in fact, a beautiful slab of wood and the 2-tone 'burst is tastefully and beautifully done. Regarding the neck, once I dress the frets it'll be good to go and I absolutely love the 1-1/2" nut width - similar feel to a Jazz Bass neck. Looking forward to playing it more.
Like it lots!
