Carrying the Legacy of the Precision Bass Forward

Classic, storied, and instantly recognizable, the Fender Precision Bass has left an indelible mark on countless recordings and performances. The Player II Modified Precision Bass now joins the legendary ranks, blending the instrument's timeless spirit with contemporary allure in the form of quality tonewoods, high-performance hardware, and reimagined electronics. Featuring a classic construction, the Player II Modified Precision Bass offers contemporary comforts Sweetwater's Fender loyalists cannot do without, such as the modern C-shaped maple neck with smooth rolled edges that pairs with the maple fingerboard to deliver snappy, authoritative tone. To enhance and amplify that tone, Fender has introduced an all-new preamp with a refined 3-band EQ optimized for sonic transparency and an Active/Passive functionality that offers players ultimate flexibility when shaping their sound. Likewise, the Player II Modified P Bass sports a set of newly voiced pickups that serve as the bedrock for unmistakable P Bass punch and additional versatility. Alongside these upgrades, Fender added some touches it knew the discerning player would appreciate — namely, a 1.625-inch TUSQ nut, tapered shaft tuners, and a HiMass bridge for enhanced intonation, sustain, and stability. Since 1951, the Fender P Bass has reigned as king of the low end — the enthralling Player II Modified Precision Bass is a rightful heir to the throne.

A 3-band active preamp — reimagined

Three individual amplifier stages exist within the Player II Modified preamp in an effort to silo the controls and deliver the most consistent tone possible. When combined with the addition of a mid-Q switch — a narrowing of the treble- and mid-bandwidths and changes to the center frequency of each band — you get a much more focused low-end, a punchier midrange, and a clearer high end that reduces muddiness and allows the P Bass to cut straight through the mix. Along with enhanced transparency and defined dynamics, the Player II Modified Precision Bass also houses a traditional Tone knob that functions in Active and Passive modes, so whether you enjoy the earthy, organic grooves of a passive bass or the snappy, bright sound of an active circuit, you’ll never lose your scalpel-like tonal precision.

A dynamic duo

The Player II Modified P Bass houses a Player II Modified Alnico V Precision Bass pickup in the middle position and a Player II Noiseless Alnico V Jazz Bass pickup in the bridge position. Meticulously re-voiced to best capture the classic Precision Bass tone, these pickups form the backbone of the authoritative P Bass sound and work in tandem with the all-new Player II Modified preamp to achieve the most substantial low-end possible. Punchy, growling, and dynamic, this 2-pickup setup elevates the traditional Precision Bass to a new level of versatility.

High-performance hardware

Sometimes, it’s the finer details that can elevate a bass to that next level of superiority. Knowing this, Fender outfitted the Player II Modified Precision Bass with a 1.625-inch TUSQ nut, tapered shaft tuners on the headstock, and a HiMass bridge to ensure proper intonation, improve tuning stability, and solidify the bass’ overall sonic resonance. These upgrades further prove that even when reworking a classic design, the skilled artisans at Fender never settle for “good enough.”

Fender II Modified series: a musical joyride

Like a tuned-up classic car, Fender’s Player II series injects all-time classic designs with a high-octane dose of power and performance. Born out of a deep exploration under the hood and a thorough examination of Player II instruments, Fender has introduced the Player II Modified series. Home to hot-rodded editions of Stratocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass models, the Player II Modified series features timeless touches, including quality tonewoods, rolled fingerboard edges, and legendary body shapes. Meanwhile, a barrage of high-performance upgrades, including new noiseless pickups, elevated electronics, and reimagined hardware, deliver a souped-up playing experience. It all equates to an inventive line that beautifully complements the essence of what has made Fender the go-to choice for musicians since 1946. Like a sleek coupe fresh from the garage, your Fender Player II Modified series instrument is ready to ride.

Reviews

What a fantastic Bass!
This is my first Fender P-Bass and I can't stop saying OMG. First the finish; 3 color Sunburst. This bass is gorgeous. It's like she just wants to looked at. White pearloid pick guard, chrome hardware; this is beyond a sexy bass. She is active and man she sounds incredible. Sometimes in a musical journey, you go back to basics. The P-Bass is the first electric bass. It does everything and it does it well. It's like a sure thing, you pick it up and you know exactly what to expect.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of high end basses out there and plenty of player's models but sometimes you just want a P-Bass. This is the one you want. It's Made in Mexico; so what. It is very well made. She came the other day and since it's been so cold, I let the box alone for a day. Opened the box and took out the bass in the hardshell case (Sweetwater shipped it in it's case) Let the case sit for about eight hours then opened the lid. I won't lie but I almost got a stiffy. With the lid open, she sat for another eight hours. She was tuned down only a half step. Tuned her up and that's all I had to do. Right out of the box and no setup.

Yes, I'm an old guy and I like the way things used to be but, new sounds also appeal to me. I wanted a Fender P-Bass to have as my main bass. I have quite a few basses but this girl, she's front and center. If you're on the fence, just look at those pictures. I guarantee you that what you'll see in person will knock you over. This bass is absolutely Stunning! It feels perfect. It looks perfect. It sounds perfect. I'm going to enjoy this P-Bass for the rest of my life. Thanks to Brandon and everyone at Sweetwater!
