Yamaha’s Next-gen Flagship P Series Digital Piano

Yamaha’s P Series digital pianos are top sellers at Sweetwater because they deliver a winning combination: uncompromising sound quality, authentic playing feel, and a robust feature set — at an affordable price. Now, Yamaha builds on its success with the P-525 digital piano, which includes advanced features ported from the company’s high-end Clavinova line. The P-525’s updated CFX and Bösendorfer samples faithfully replicate two of the finest grand pianos in the world, while its GrandTouch-S keyboard action with wooden keys and synthetic ebony and ivory keytops will delight even the most discerning pro pianists. Whether you’re a seasoned professional looking for a compact 88-key digital piano or a beginner needing an instrument that will last for years to come, the Yamaha P-525 is a solid investment.

Enhanced live performance functionality

The P-525 brings new features to the P Series that enhance live performance functionality. Registration Memories allow you to store and recall panel settings at the press of a button to easily access your favorite configurations. Meanwhile, Sound Boost instantly adds a prescribed dose of volume and equalization for extra punch, helping you cut through the mix when playing through the internal speakers in small ensemble settings such as an acoustic jazz trio. Despite all the high tech packed into the P-525, Yamaha’s flagship P Series digital piano retains a sleek, roadworthy chassis that looks as great in your home as it does onstage.

The sound and feel of world-class concert grands

You’ll love the Yamaha P-525’s GrandTouch-S graded hammer-action keyboard, which is expertly crafted by Yamaha artisans using cutting-edge multi-sensor triggering. Solid wood keys transfer vibrations from the instrument to give the player critical tactile feedback; synthetic ivory and ebony keytops wick away moisture for a supremely comfortable playing feel. The GrandTouch-S keyboard works in concert with the P-525’s half-damper pedal control for a remarkably realistic acoustic grand piano playing experience. As Yamaha’s Grand Expression Modeling technology replicates the mechanics of a piano’s hammers, strings, and internal components, Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) re-creates the resonance of the piano strings and body as they respond in real time to the innumerable acoustic factors at play within an acoustic grand piano. Through headphones, concert hall performances are reproduced with breathtaking spatial dimensionality, courtesy of Yamaha’s 3D Binaural Sampling.

Advanced technology for vivid and richly varied expression

Yamaha has been building acoustic pianos since 1900, and the company has been on the cutting edge of digital technology for decades. Under the hood of the P-525 are proprietary digital audio technologies such as Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM), which meticulously models the infinite number of factors that create the sound of a concert grand piano to impart vivid and richly varied expression to your music. From the commanding sound of Yamaha’s own flagship CFX 9-foot concert grand to the awe-inspiring majesty of Austria’s revered 8-octave Bösendorfer Imperial, you’ll thrill to the sonic richness of the world’s finest acoustic pianos, plus a selection of other excellent instrument voices, including electric pianos, organs, vibraphone, and more.

Get more from your digital piano with the Smart Pianist app

Like many of Yamaha’s digital pianos, the P-525 can open up an exciting world of expanded digital features when you connect it to the Smart Pianist app, which offers a gorgeous graphical interface and a plethora of intriguing features. In addition to giving you full control over the P-525’s main functions, the Smart Pianist app lets you access educational tools like piano lessons, practice exercises, and music scores. You can play along with your favorite tunes accompanied by generated chord progressions. The app can analyze the songs in your smart device’s music library using Audio to Score chord tracker technology to produce a piano score, making it easy for you to learn how to play your favorite songs. These are but a few examples of the advanced features that enable the P-525 and Smart Pianist app to bring you a world of musical enrichment.

Reviews

glad I chose this one
I spent several months doing hands-on tests, studying specifications, and deciding whether or not I even needed a digital piano. I'm very glad I settled on this one. Main reasons: keyboard feel, sound, and semi-portability.

Keyboard feel: I tried various brands of pianos and consistently preferred Yamaha. This is the only model of portable with the "Grand Touch S" keyboard, which is also used on the lower-end Clavinovas. The other Yamaha portables have either Graded Hammer Compact or Graded Hammer Standard. I found I strongly preferred the Grand Touch S.

Sound: I was tempted by the accompaniment sounds of other models, but came to the conclusion I don't need those. That's just not where I'm going musically. I really like the possibility of layering sounds, and splitting the keyboard. I've enjoyed play with piano & strings in right hand and bass in the left, for example. However, I find that I'm using just piano sounds most of the time. And the Yamaha CFX sounds fabulous in headphones! (Being able to play without bothering the family or neighbors is the main reason I wanted a digital piano in the first place)

Semi-portability: I'll use the piano in my studio far more than elsewhere, but I wanted the option. At 50 pounds this is more "luggable" than "portable," but the other features made this tradeoff worth it.

Other things I like: USB C connection shows it's more modern than the other keyboards. Very easy to connect to iPad for the SmartPiano app. Bluetooth sound from phone or ipad playing through the piano great for practicing with backup tracks (another reason I didn't need those accompaniment sounds of other models) or online lessons. Someday I'll be good enough to use the half-pedalling this model supports. More power in the speakers than other models, which will be useful when I do haul this to small-room performances. I could use aux input with my wireless mic for those performances, too.
Music background: sax in school; 25 years of harp as an adult, beginning pianist
Best in class DP

This Yamaha P-525 is THE BEST AND MOST REALISTIC Digital Piano in the under $ class I have played. I have played EVERY brand and the action and sound are the closest to an acoustic. This includes ALL Kawais as well.

I came from an MP7 that was starting to fail after 14 months.

There are those that prefer the previous P-515 iteration, however the P-525 is more realistic and especially forgiving for longer practice session and allows for more gradation of touch and timbre.

It is excellent for "classical" repertoire and jazz.

ROCK SOLID build and not prone to mechanical issues like Kawai.

5 stars!

Kurt Martin and the team at Sweetwater are first class all the way! He's been my sales engineer fora decade and a half and ALWAYS has my back!

Thanks Kurt and thanks Sweetwater!

Music background: Professional for almost 4 decades
Great piano
At our church we were looking for a digital piano and after looking for a while we decided on the P525. It sounds very good with real ivory keys and plays like the real thing sounds very authentic even with the built in speakers. Every keyboard player that plays it gives their seal of approval.
Music background: Acoustic guitar player, bass guitar and Worship leader
Very happy

Bought it mostly for the action and size. Tried several in the $ range and this was the winner. Feels great, good weight, nice texture on the keys. Liked it better than the Rolands (which felt too "sticky") - could play faster on the Yamaha. Good interface. Only minus is the black keys feel a tiny bit lighter than the white ones.

The piano sounds are good and give the impression of a real piano (but I'm not looking for that last 5%, so your mileage might be different). Haven't used all the other sounds, and probably won't, so can't comment on those.

Overall, I'd definitely get the P525 again.

Music background: Home composer. Engineer.
I love this Keyboard.
I can't say enough about the overall Quality of this keyboard.
