The Famous Otamatone — Now at Sweetwater

The Otamatone has livened up events, parties, and even concerts for years, and Sweetwater is pleased to now carry this world-famous musical toy! In terms of playability, the Otamatone is more akin to a violin or a guitar in that you play pitches by sliding your fingers up and down its “neck” or “stem.” You can add vibrato by shaking the stem, and you’ll get a wah-style effect by squeezing the Otamatone’s “face.” The Otamatone Regular model offers three octave options, so you’ll be able to play an endless array of songs. Finally, the Otamatone Regular model only needs three AAA batteries (not included) to get the party started. Sweetwater tip: googly eyes make a perfect addition to any Otamatone!

Otamatone Regular Features:

  • One of Japan’s best-selling musical toys, now available at Sweetwater!
  • Play different notes by sliding up and down the touch-sensitive “stem”
  • Squeeze the Otamatone’s “face” to get a wah-style effect
  • Shake the Otamatone’s stem for a vibrato-style effect
  • 3 octave options
  • Powered by 3 AAA batteries (not included)
  • Available in multiple colors

Reviews

Otamatone - Not a Toy Toy!
Believe it or not, the Otamatone CAN be played musically (with considerable practice) and is extremely entertaining for people watching. It is not a "pick it up and play it" instrument; the fingering and scale is similar to a 1/2 size single string violin. The scale is logarithmic, not linear, and spacing gets tiny when you get into the upper section of the fingerboard.

You can get an lovely responsive vibrato with normal guitar or violin technique, and squeezing the "cheeks" adds another tonal dynamic. Combined, this thing can be quite expressive!

This cool and fun toy is not a toy!
