Elegant Aesthetics: Form Meets Function

One glance at the Opus-Quad is enough to conjure a feeling of aesthetic satisfaction that might have more common ground with Herman Miller’s Eames Chair than a nightclub DJ booth, but its compelling profile is hardly just eye candy. Its slick composition includes performance-minded nuances, like the 5-degree slope of the wings or the thorough color coding made to keep track of controls over the 4-deck arrangement. A slew of I/O controls, rich FX, vivid displays, and premier technology make the Opus-Quad a controller that Sweetwater’s DJs feel is genuinely worthy of its name. From inspiring performance accommodations to high-quality AD/DA conversions and much more, this is a proper all-in-one controller that dares you to innovate.

High-class comfort and accommodating design

A 5-degree slope may not seem like a lot, but looking at the Opus-Quad’s profile, it’s clear that a little goes a long way, allowing you to fluidly move to and from the job wheels without compromising the control scheme. Its textured surface isn’t just a great contrast to the Earth-tone slits — it provides an excellent grip that maximizes comfort, with the rounded edges to painlessly rest your hands. Plus, each deck can be assigned a color, including the lights in the jog wheels and the FX cues, allowing for a streamlined visual fluency to quickly determine which decks are ready for active use. Plus, zone output management lets you control which music source plays at its desired location, all from the Opus-Quad.

Vivid displays, excellent control

The Opus-Quad’s 10.1-inch electrostatic touchscreen doesn’t just look great — its design allows for precise control and faster reaction times, ensuring you never miss a beat. Tracks can be previewed by simply touching their accompanying waveforms, while an easily toggled keyboard or the intuitive Playlist Bank system lets you quickly navigate to anything you need. Pioneer has also included a new Smart Rotary Selector: a multi-axis joystick-like controller that can move all four cardinal directions while having rotation control and click functions to navigate menus quickly and easily. With a track in the library highlighted, you can press and hold left or right to preview the beginning or middle of a track, respectively, making on-the-fly set-building a breeze.

New dimensions of sonic exploration

Between four USB ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, zone routing, and compatibility with rekordbox, Serato, and more, the Opus-Quad can simultaneously pull music from multiple sources, and the ESS Technology D/A converter ensures unrelenting sonic fidelity. Mac or PC, SSDs to wireless, this controller can easily manage every source. The newly available XY-Pad uses the touchscreen to manage multi-axis control of the controller’s various Beat FX, while per-channel Sound Color FX supplement each track with rich, performance-driven texturizing tools. Each deck also features eight Hot Cue buttons that can be quickly overwritten in real time to accommodate and inspire new approaches to your set. Moreover, each jog wheel can have its feel independently adjusted, with per-deck tempo and beat management tools always within reach.

Reviews

Time Will Tell
I love the unit, however we have to see what types of updates and the frequency with which Pioneer Dj pushes out the updates…Considering the cost, I want even more functionality.
Music background: Djb over 20 years.
Solid Piece of Kit, Perfect for my Needs
I've been using this setup since I received it around 9 months ago. I am exceedingly happy with it. There are some minor issues and I will list them, but they are manageable. First I want to talk about what I like:

the good:
- The design is sleek and tasteful. It fits well into my living environment and looks good enough to keep on display. The copper finish on the knobs is very appealing.
- the knobs feel solid yet smooth. The 'big knob' used for navigation feels great to use, which is great, because you'll use it a lot.
- the displays are seriously good, on par with 3000s. the touchscreen is responsive.
- being able to use pro dj link over wifi is a game changer for preparation and practice, no more fiddling with USBs and exports.
- being able to practice on 4 decks without needing to have 4 decks is a very nice luxury.
- perfect for practice, when I swap to 3000s I feel right at home. being able to practice (and not just prepare) has noticeable improved my sets.
- the input/output options are roomy and flexible

The whatever:
- the jog wheels feel fine, they trade the little 'cups' that other pioneer players have for 'swirls'. Their look fits better but feel a little different, not worse, just different.

The not so good:
- A minor bug: unit doesn't automatically signing into wifi networks that are even marked as "auto connect". seems fixable via update but no guarantees.
- the lack of an ability to edit rating on the fly. cdj3000s apparently lost this function too. which is a huge shame in a generation of devices with touch screens. being able to edit rating is a valuable metadata during preparation, especially in the modern age with SO much music!!
- the color temp of the white LEDs for the buttons doesn't match the color temp of the white LEDs in the jog wheels. Purely aesthetic, but still...

Pioneer has stated that the rekordbox library plus is the 'next step' for the rekordbox db, it's intent is to modernize the software, overcome old limitations and add more features. It can feel a little bit like a hiccup when someone else plugs in and nothing is loading, but it's really not a difficult fix: plug in usb to rdb and update, takes 5ish minutes.

all in all I purchased this rig because I wanted an AIO setup for my home to practice and prepare on. It excelled at that while also being a part of the modern generation of hardware. I am very glad i picked this up over the XZ, but that's based solely on my user needs.
In love

Cream of the crop!
The Opus Quad is fantastic! I've wanted to upgrade from my 400 for awhile now and I was caught between the 1000 and the RX-3, so this was the absolute best of both worlds!

Not cluttered with too many buttons or graphics, it simplifies many aspects of performance. Also the wifi connection to my PC is incredible, saving time and effort loading everything on a USB before I can practice.

You will need to update your USB library to work on the Opus Quad (takes less than 5 minutes) but that's the only drawback I've noticed. Feels very intuitive once you get used to the layout. Seems like the perfect rig for B2B performance.

10/10 would recommend.

Love it
I like it more than my previous XDJ-RX. It has WiFi so I can play music off my desktop computer in a different room. I don't like the jogs as much because they feel more rough compared to the buttery smooth platters on the XDJ-RX. I understand this is because they're mechanical? Not sure what that means. I'd much rather own this than an XDJ-XZ. Why buy old tech when this has the same computer as the CDJ30000 and will be updated with features? People say it is ugly, it is anything but ugly in person. It feels like a command ship. I guess the only reason you'd get an XZ is if you *have* to practice or if you're using it for gigs constantly, because if the lack of backwards compatibility without checking the box in Rekordbox for the Opus Quad.
