Premium Passive Monitors

Amphion One18 monitor speakers offer premium performance for your critical monitoring sessions. These high-end passive monitors employ a custom-designed 6.5" woofer, a fast-response titanium tweeter, a high-density Corian waveguide, and a sealed enclosure with a passive radiator to deliver the natural, transparent, un-hyped sound you need to make critical mixing decisions.

Amphion One18 Monitor Speakers at a Glance:
  • A beautifully honest listening experience
  • Better performance from passive design
  • Corian waveguide provides control and balance
  • Point source performance - no audible crossover point
  • Sealed box + passive radiator = much greater accuracy
A beautifully honest listening experience

Many studio monitors are great to work on, but not necessarily the speakers you'd choose when you want to get lost in your favorite music. Amphion One18 studio monitors are designed with the ultimate goal of providing a "beautifully honest" listening experience that makes tracking, mixing and mastering not only easy... but really enjoyable as well.

Better performance from passive design

Simply put - better performance. Keeping sensitive electronics away from magnetized moving drivers improves every aspect of the monitor, and does not force the choice of an amplification solution based on its ability to fit inside an enclosure and not overheat it.

Corian waveguide provides control and balance

Like all Amphion monitors, the One18 features a fifth-generation waveguide CNC machined out of high density Corian. This improves the tweeter's ability to couple with the air, helping it to extend down to the 1.6kHz crossover point and making the dispersion of the overall system more uniform throughout a wide frequency range. It also physically aligns the drivers, which improves the time and phase coherence tremendously. The result is a rock solid phantom center, pinpoint imaging and an extra wide and deep sweet spot.

Point source performance - no audible crossover point!

Driver integration is one of the main challenges in speaker design and construction. The goal is to achieve a single point where the acoustical centers of the driver combination can work together perfectly, just like what happens in real life. If you want to combine two different audio signals as seamlessly as possible, doesn't it make sense to place the seam outside the most sensitive areas of the hearing range? Human hearing is not linear. The ear's sensitivity is highest inside the critical middle of the hearing range, generally located between 2-50kHz. Employing an unconventionally low crossover point allows the use of drivers with the lowest possible moving mass in the range where the ear is most sensitive, resulting in an unprecedented amount of midrange clarity and depth, and a single point source/phantom center image typically only found in coaxial designs.

Sealed box + passive radiator = much greater accuracy

A ported box always has uncontrolled pressure changes and turbulence inside the cabinet which lead to decreased resolution - especially in the midrange - preventing a balanced audio signal from being reproduced optimally. The One18's sealed cabinet design results in a dramatic improvement in midrange resolution and bass accuracy, while also loading the room in a more controlled and predictable manner. Essentially a speaker cone, surround and basket without the motor, Amphion's rear-mounted passive radiator moves in perfect synchronization with the front woofer, ensuring that the distance from the front of the cabinet to the rear is always the same and that the balance of air in the cabinet is maintained. This results in a much tighter, even response in the low end of the spectrum, guaranteeing more accurate translation to just about any playback system. A passive radiator is not the same as a rear port, and is nowhere near as sensitive to placement near a rear wall.

Amphion One18 Passive Studio Monitors Features:
  • High-quality studio monitors designed for uncompromised performance
  • 2-way passive construction with rear-mounted passive radiator
  • 6.5" mid/bass woofer
  • 1" titanium tweeter
  • Power recommendation 30 to 150 watts
Amphion One18 studio monitors offer impeccable performance.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

So effortless

I'll spare you the subjective descriptions of their audio performance. They sound good. But this isn't why you get these. The reason you buy them is that when you do a mix, then go to your car, headphones, earbuds, portable bluetooth speaker, sound bar, iphone speaker...your mix will sound exactly as you intended.

I honestly thought the hype around these being "the new NS-10" was partially post-purchase bias, partially marketing hype, partially the evocative black and white aesthetic. Bottom line, I was skeptical of all the internet praise, and if anything, I was expecting them to not meet the hype. However, after the first 3 mixes, I was a believer.

Now don't get me wrong, it's not a mixing cheat code, no monitor is. But if you're already an experienced mixer, these will make sense. You will likely find yourself doing less tweaking in a mix, but achieving more, and doing it faster. What more could you want out of a studio monitor?

Pure gold.

These monitors are exceptionally accurate with clarity and depth. The low end is tight and true as the mids and highs show the true warmth or airy presence in your content.

Sadly they put my focals to shame. These are a true investment in your setup. You will not be disappointed in these at all. With clean power filtering these alone have my mixes on another level.

All Praise to the Amphions

Just Some Monitors I've owned.

Focal SM9 - Great low end and awesome tweeters, but sounds HIFI and not Ideal for Mixing
Focal Trio - Great dynamic range but ported design introduces flabbiness in low end
Focal Twins - Great budget entry speaker into the pro monitoring arena. Sound can be dark
Neumann KH 310 - Great Speaker all around but overloads and clips easily.
Yamaha NS10 - Great Mixing Tool. Can be fatiguing. Can Amphions replace them??? For me the answer is a big YES.
Amphion One 18 - Mids are Accurate Bottom is Tight and Highs will allow to work for extended periods. Mix Translates Amazingly Well.
Amphion Two 18 - Everything about the One 18 PLUS More. More perceived depth and bass frequencies extended even lower. It costs twice as much but you literally are getting double the speaker and sound.

Shocking how much i was missing.

Its a really weird feeling to have a set of monitors that makes problems jump out at you like these do. these are my first set of "big boy" monitors but I have always used reference mixes to keep my ears somewhat calibrated, but what used to sound very similar, is now worlds apart. its crazy to know that all this time there were things my old monitors just didn't show me. very excited to work more with these. I have a few people that I typically send my mixes to for another set of ears and outside opinions. I usually got at least a couple criticisms or revisions I should make, but now people are just telling me "id be happy to get that mix if I were the band/artist"

They don't lie

They don't lie. They sound flat. Really flat. Just as one thinks they are lackluster, details begin to emerge that weren't noticed before. Micro-detailed high-end. Bass that is tight...no one-note flabbiness, here....and perfectly integrated with everything else. I have retired my subwoofer. Ambience and reverb durations more noticeable between notes. When I mix on these, the sound is just right everywhere else.
