A Special Edition of a Powerful Stage Piano

Upping the ante from previous iterations, the Numa Compact X SE from Studiologic marks a special edition of a beloved stage piano. The Numa Compact X SE piano boasts 88 semi-weighted keys with Aftertouch, an enhanced factory sound bank, and newly developed acoustic and electric piano sound engines for engaging performance and captivating sound quality. Users can also enjoy the improved organ and synth engines — plus a series of nine drawbars and a slider to get seriously expressive with their sound design. Plug in onstage, play aloud through the natural-sounding speakers, or connect a pair of headphones for silent practice at home. In summary, this edition of the Numa Compact brings you detailed control and improved sound quality like you’ve never experienced before!

Total musical control and realistic sound engines

Set out on your journey to rock and roll with the Numa Compact X SE’s 148 high-quality built in sounds and a max polyphony of 200 notes. The 88 semi-weighted keys are more than a match to create natural-sounding passages and musical experimentations thanks to their Aftertouch capability. They’re also capable of handling the acoustic piano, electric piano, organ, and synth sound engines inside the Numa Compact X SE. With the acoustic piano, pianists can waltz through delightfully realistic string/duplex resonance and damper/hammer noise courtesy of the revamped acoustic engine. With the electric piano, users can fine-tune the tine control and damper noise to hit that sonic sweet spot.

When it comes to the organ and synth engines, users can utilize the nine included drawbars and slider to set the perfect tone for their musical exploits. These programmable drawbars can also be used to send MIDI messages, making this studio piano doubly versatile in any musical setting. These real-time controls will change the way you perform and write music. Take a stab at the rotary FX, chorus, and vibrato to add another layer to your organ sound. Users can now also experience the dedicated engine that mixes samples and effects to emulate the Numa X Piano’s physical modeling technology with tons of realism. Take it from Sweetwater, the Numa Compact X SE is the real deal!

Dedication to the details that make the sonic experience

Studiologic weren’t ones to overlook the details. The Numa Compact X SE packs three default velocity curves, pedal inputs, string resonance, and more under the keybed. This stage piano also packs up to 1GB of internal flash memory, including eight sound banks and 120 programs. Access your controls, sound engines, and more through the OLED display on the front panel. Dive deeper and explore the capabilities of the FX processor that offers a dedicated control section and can perform up to six effects simultaneously. Lastly, though it may look heavy with those 88 keys, the Numa Compact X SE gets its name because this lightweight, compact piano only weighs 15 pounds.

Reviews

Refined to a comfortable and pleasant-to-play instrument.
I've owned the last three generations of this model line; started with a demo model Numa Compact 2, then a 2X for the drawbars. This X SE vers has smoothed out nearly all of the rough edges and is a dream to play and listen to. The new USA Grand piano is bold and punchy. The Italian Grand is moody with expressive dynamics. But my favorite is the Vintage Grand with its tuning nuances that kind of jangle and bloom with the higher velocities, just like a well-loved heirloom piano should. The latest keybed is like butter…the best semi-weighted action I've come across yet.

The organ's new rotary is an improvement and usable, but still not quite competitive with the top contenders (I'm spoiled by my Crumar Mojo). The trick is to run mono out of the Right channel to get the cleanest rotary sound. Oddly, the Left channel sums the R&L that seems to double-up the rotary and makes it kind of warble instead of spin. Running true stereo with good physical separation of the speakers is a pleasing experience, but if the signal gets summed to mono at the FOH will reintroduce the warble. Still best (IMHO) to use a dedicated rotary effects pedal or software if doing a lot of organ with the X SE. The C/V still only has two of each, but they seem to have been revamped to sound a little better than previous models; again, not top tier clonewheel standards, but usable.

I've greatly enjoyed the EP's since the early Numa models, and this vers refines them some more. The onboard effects are are marginally improved as well. The new Mono switch for the synths is fantastic. The synth is limited to the presets, but there are plenty to choose from and the drawbar editing of the filter, envelopes and LFO is fun and can result with some whacked-out sounds. The pads and synth brass are huge and lush. Love it!

The additional sounds may be a tad quirky, but most are nicely dynamic and musical. The electric guitars are great fun. One big quibble for me is the only good Brass section to layer with piano has a Brass-fall at the higher velocities. A neat effect perhaps if used very rarely, but no way to override it other than to keep the velocity in the lowers ranges, it can get cheesy if applied too often and can botch a big swell ending of a tune. Definitely prefer the big band brass of the previous gens. Ve been experimenting with the sax section to replace the brass, but it's just not the same. Still tweaking stuff and learning to control the velocity with the brass section, for now.

All in all, this is a fine instrument and quite a capable controller of software. And real easy on the back at only 15 lbs. I love the backpack straps of the proprietary case that Studiologic makes for it. This has become a favorite stage piano for my weekend adventures. Well done.
Studiologic Numa X se
I love my Numa - happy I bought it - I'm slowly learning all of voices and extras this Keyboard contains

Great keyboard in any price range!
I have the Studiologic Numa X piano GT (with Studiologic bass pedals) and love it so very happy with their products-play it more than my Nord Piano 5. It's too heavy to really take anywhere for me so it stays in my studio. I have been hauling my Nord Electro 6D back and forth to my lake cabin, so I bough this compact to leave out there full time. Didn't expect it to have so many features and voices! The internal speakers are ok for practice, but lack much tone or volume. Sounds great with headphones. Plug it in to a small pair of studio monitors and it's good enough to gig with-I'm using JBL 305P's. 4 separate sound engines, midi in/outs, USB- Found out it will power from the USB port (not the amp and speakers though) so I can take it out on the deck with my Bose S-1's and a USB power bank or a laptop and play without AC power! This thing is better than any other keyboard in it's price range that I am aware of!

Total Sleeper
This thing is amazing. Easy to program, great sounds, great feel for a non hammer action, and best of all, aftertouch. I was a little skeptical, especially having a Yamaha Mox series for years. But after listening to recordings side by side, I am totally team Numa. The pianos and electric pianos are awesome, organs are totally there, and the synth section is quick and easy. Building synth and lead sounds is super quick, and the after touch makes any lead instrument sound amazing, The tenor sax with after touch can be unbelievably realistic. With other sounds it reminds me of an ARP Pro soloist, just great stuff. In the companion carry bag, weighs about 16 pounds. Hands down the best 88 key stage piano I've ever owned. So many great features that are so well implemented, it's just a joy to use. My only downside is I am not a big fan of the pitch stick, it takes a little getting used to. That and the mod stick could be a little bigger, with a little more throw for fine control.

great board, definitely invest in monitors
Got this to use as a practice keyboard at home as I wanted something with a lot of flexibility and easy to travel with. I'm still getting used to navigating it, as well as the semi-weighted action, but I'm very impressed by what the X SE offers, especially in its organ and synth engines. My only major complaint is that the built-in speakers are not great to say the least. I understand that corners had to be cut to make this board as light as it is, but these definitely benefit from using headphones or monitors. I recommend the X SE if you're looking for something compact with lots of options at an affordable price!
