Try D’Addario’s Toughest Strings

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session.

The NYXL Difference

So, what really makes NYXLs so much different than standard D’Addario strings? First, they’re built with an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire for greater durability and a higher tolerance for alternate tunings. The other difference found on NYXL strings is the reformulated nickel-plated wrap wire, which delivers a subtle boost in output between 1kHz and 3.5kHz. With NYXL strings, you get a modernized sound and ferocious durability without sacrificing the easy playability you know and love.

Which string gauge is right for me?

  • Extra Super Light: Super easy to play. Easy to bend. Great for beginners.
  • Super Light: Easy on the fingers. Slightly more volume and projection.
  • Regular Light: Most popular. Ideal balance of playability and versatile tone.
  • Medium: A popular fusion of heftier plain steels and wound strings.
  • Heavy: Hardest to bend. Maximum volume. Often used for drop/altered tunings.

The right tone for everyone

D’Addario believes that every acoustic guitar player should have a set of strings that match their sonic needs. That’s why they build strings with a range of construction methods and materials. Whether you go with the brightest 80/20 Bronze strings, the mellowest Silk & Steels, or anywhere in between, D’Addario has the perfect sound for everyone. Want to learn more? D’Addario: innovative strings since 1680

When you go with D’Addario, you receive far more than a great set of strings. You’re benefiting from three centuries of string-making experience. The D’Addario family tradition began in 1680 in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. Since then, the D’Addario family has become a leader in string innovation. They designed the modern winding machine, introduced ultra-reliable hexagonal core wires, and pioneered the colored-coded ball end movement. More than 300 years since the family started making strings, D’Addario continues to set a global standard for quality and reliability. And every day, more than 500,000 strings emerge from their USA-based workshops.

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings Features:

  • Advanced nickel-wound guitar strings with outstanding durability
  • Exclusive New York-made high-carbon steel core delivers unrivaled strength and elasticity
  • Wound strings flaunt an improved frequency response in the 1–3.5kHz range

NYXL why there the Best

If you're a player who enjoys bending w/ ease & staying in tune, well taken a Look at NYXL strings while playing with 7.25 radius on ,62fender,,been using NYXL for about last 12 years, didn't look back,& extra couple bucks is worth having a set of strings that has longevity and enjoys being bent over holding tune...unlike any others,Signed a player of 56+ years.9.5-44 is great ideas

Might be the one!

I tried the NYXL 10-46 which is the gauge I was using with regular XL's. They always felt too stiff. Definitely stiffer than the XL. So I figured the lighter set might help with that and it did. Still has a huge sound because the NYXL do sound bigger but definitely less tension and more comfortable. Nice compromise.
Music background: Playing since the Stone Age.

The Best Version of My Favorite String Gauge

I've been using the 9.5 gauge string sets by D'Addario for years now and they are my favorite set for almost anything that isn't a Les Paul or other single-cut, fixed-neck guitar. For me, they're noticeably easier to play than 10s, but not as "slinky" as 9s, and have that bright tone of a 9 set that I love on my strat or tele. As a result of the lesser tension compared to a 10 set, this 9.5 set is very bend-friendly as it's just tight enough to not let you overdo it as easily compared to 9s (This might just be a "me" thing).
That said, once I found out that D'Addario started making this set in the NYXL series I was all-aboard! Compared to the less-expensive XL series that I used for years, this set seems to be a little brighter, but these strings have a noticeably longer lifespan than the XLs. Keeping in line with that, they can also really take a beating; I can bend them like crazy and they hardly ever go out of tune once they're acclimated. I can easily pull 2.5 step-bends with these strings fearlessly and maintain tuning stability. For the price, I'd say it's totally worth it, and I can't even go back for the XLs anymore!

8ve been using NYXLs for years, they bend to another level,& NYXLs holds tuning & the feel is smooth, they play by themselves.U use NYXL on My Vintage Fenders & Also The Gibson's.From Les Paul Standard to ES-335s best guitar strings I've used in 55+ yrs playing.

D'Addario NYXL Electric Strings .0095

I have played 9 1/2 gauge strings on my electrics for over 30 years as both a full-time musician and a weekender. I think I've played every string that is manufactured in this gauge. These are hands down the best strings I've ever used. I now play exclusively Variax digital guitars and the Piezo equipped saddles can get somewhat gritty over time. This is tough on the strings. The NYXL's are the only strings that I've found that don't break after a couple of gigs. Not only are they the most durable string I've found, they are also more comfortable and stay in tune better. The tone, while not perfect, is quite good (a little more high-mids than regular nickel D'Addarios and not as twangy as the Stringjoys). Very much worth the price and USA made!
