D'Addario NYXL09544 NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .0095-.044 Super Light Plus Reviews

.0095-.044 Super Light Plus Gauge Electric Guitar Strings, Nickel Wound

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session.

NYXL why there the Best

By Jim from M on January 10, 2024 Music Background: Studio musician

If you're a player who enjoys bending w/ ease & staying in tune, well taken a Look at NYXL strings while playing with 7.25 radius on ,62fender,,been using NYXL for about last 12 years, didn't look back,& extra couple bucks is worth having a set of strings that has longevity and enjoys being bent over holding tune...unlike any others,Signed a player of 56+ years.9.5-44 is great ideas

Might be the one!

By Paul Trapanese from New York on August 25, 2023 Music Background: Playing since the Stone Age.

I tried the NYXL 10-46 which is the gauge I was using with regular XL's. They always felt too stiff. Definitely stiffer than the XL. So I figured the lighter set might help with that and it did. Still has a huge sound because the NYXL do sound bigger but definitely less tension and more comfortable. Nice compromise.

The Best Version of My Favorite String Gauge

By Chris from Ohio on May 30, 2023

I've been using the 9.5 gauge string sets by D'Addario for years now and they are my favorite set for almost anything that isn't a Les Paul or other single-cut, fixed-neck guitar. For me, they're noticeably easier to play than 10s, but not as "slinky" as 9s, and have that bright tone of a 9 set that I love on my strat or tele. As a result of the lesser tension compared to a 10 set, this 9.5 set is very bend-friendly as it's just tight enough to not let you overdo it as easily compared to 9s (This might just be a "me" thing).
That said, once I found out that D'Addario started making this set in the NYXL series I was all-aboard! Compared to the less-expensive XL series that I used for years, this set seems to be a little brighter, but these strings have a noticeably longer lifespan than the XLs. Keeping in line with that, they can also really take a beating; I can bend them like crazy and they hardly ever go out of tune once they're acclimated. I can easily pull 2.5 step-bends with these strings fearlessly and maintain tuning stability. For the price, I'd say it's totally worth it, and I can't even go back for the XLs anymore!

D'Addario NYXL Electric Strings .0095

By Mike Allen on December 30, 2022 Music Background: Semi-Professional Guitarist and former guitar instructor

I have played 9 1/2 gauge strings on my electrics for over 30 years as both a full-time musician and a weekender. I think I've played every string that is manufactured in this gauge. These are hands down the best strings I've ever used. I now play exclusively Variax digital guitars and the Piezo equipped saddles can get somewhat gritty over time. This is tough on the strings. The NYXL's are the only strings that I've found that don't break after a couple of gigs. Not only are they the most durable string I've found, they are also more comfortable and stay in tune better. The tone, while not perfect, is quite good (a little more high-mids than regular nickel D'Addarios and not as twangy as the Stringjoys). Very much worth the price and USA made!

Great customer service

By Rick from Columbus, OH on November 30, 2021

Not so much a review of the strings (though they are great) as a kudos to Sweetwater customer service. Something happened during the shipment of these strings and they were never delivered; Sweetwater replaced the strings, no questions asked.

Perfect Lower Tension Strings

By Joe Edward Randazzo from VT on November 23, 2019

I put these strings on three different guitars, a Les Paul, a Telecaster, and a Sheraton. They are marvelous on all three. the tension of the 9.5-44 set is about 89 ft.lbs. The tension of a 10-46 set is around 98 ft. lbs. This is considerably lower. When combined with a shorter scale length guitar like a Les Paul or Sheraton, it's WAY easier to bend notes and finger chords in all positions. I find no sound or tone compromises with the lighter gauge. The strings have a crispness that cuts through a band mix, but also have very solid and well pronounced lows. The NYXL strings last a bit longer than the D'Addario XL version, but are twice as expensive. The standard XLs are also very good, and are slightly mellower. I've been wiping down the strings after playing with Fast Fret and am now changing these NYXL stings once every two months instead of every two weeks. This is with constant playing. For occasional use, they will last for six months. You can't beat that. My opinion is that D'Addario has perfected the art of string making. You can't buy a better string than a NYXL in ANY gauge combination.

These may be my favorite new strings!

By Phil from Pennsylvania on January 1, 2018 Music Background: Hobbyist

I've been playing guitar for 20 years now and my main guitars have been Ernie Ball Music Man Petrucci's. I just started playing again after a 5 1/2 year break. I ordered myself a Music Man Purple Sparkle Majesty which came stock with Ernie Ball 10's. The 10's were a little too stiff for my liking since my fingers aren't exactly used to playing guitar anymore. I switched to the NYXL 9-42 set which was a little too light for my taste. After that, I saw a post on the EBMM Facebook page where someone recommended using the 9.5-44 set on my Majesty. I tried them out and absolutely love them! They sound bright and crisp, they stay in tune perfectly, and the tension is perfect for my style of playing. I was an Ernie Ball string user for years, but I may have just converted to D'Addario's.

Perfect for a MIM Fender Strat!

By Agape Guy on February 26, 2016 Music Background: Experienced

I'm a bedroom electric-guitar player (I primarily play acoustic guitar), so my scope/application is limited. Having said that, I put on these 9.5 strings on my MIM strat two months ago, and they still sound amazing, clear, punchy, and (bonus points to D'Addario!) they stay in tone. For me they also offer a lot better tone with less tinny highs than the Boomer GHS 9s I was using. They are definitely slightly thicker, which I like. But I would not put these on a shorter Les Paul style guitar, because of the presumed added tension, but that's just me. BTW, I only play my Strat 1 hour a week, and I wash my hands before I play any guitar out of habit, so take these things into consideration with respect to reliability. Still, my .02 is they are worth the price.
