Pulls it's Own Weight

I preordered this right here at Sweetwater after watching Paul Gilbert demo it on a TC Electronics YT video. Sounded pretty hot, and that it is. I will say that as with all overdrives, this pedal is very guitar and to a lesser extent, amplifier dependent. My hands are not huge, but as you can see in the photo, its a pretty nice size. Not too huge, but shouldn't completely disappear on your board. I like that.

Running my Ibanez 540S through it and into my Peavey XXX yielded some very satisfying grind and thump on the amp's clean settings. With everything dialed straight at 12 o'clock, this pedal is thick with a very "green box" flavor to it. But it's not traditional in that sense. Backing off of my guitar volume cleared things up but doesn't clean things up. This isn't a problem however because I didn't buy this for that. But I was impressed with how things remained overdriven but gained clarity just by backing off a little. Kicking the Drive up to about 1:30 and adding some treble as I have it set in the photo seemed to be the magic spot for me.

The S540 got hard and eager to voice her overtones with every touch and even at my neighborhood considerate volumes, didn't mind evolving into some nice even order feedback. And I was still in Clean mode. Going into Crunch mode with amp gain set between 10 and noon continued to create mayhem and put me close to felony territory. And I'm not even sure the family can hear me upstairs. I can't wait to hear how this baby sounds at garage-recording studio volume. But it has been very smooth and friendly so far.

Having done this, I next plugged in my H.E.R. Stratocaster and proceeded to get some real blues tone, setting everything back to my beginning settings and going clean channel on the amp. This Strat has Fender Noiseless pickups, so buzz was not an issue and I had a lot of fun getting good, clear OD in all my pickup and tone settings. I was really surprised to hear and feel how responsive this pedal is given the name that's on it. It was a very pleasant surprise.

I could go on, but what I should say is that if you want a good versatile OD that can go from round and mellow to breaking all the glasses in the club, you may want to give this one a try. For me, it's a keeper.

it goes to 11

Great Overdrive. I like it to boost my High gain Amps or Preamps it doesn,t have enough gain to make a Plexi or JCM 800 a Modern chugging machine but it gives you the 80s vibes when you boost those amps and when you use this pedal in front of the gain channel of a Peavey 6505 or EVH 5150 it really changes the character of High gain amps.

But these go up to 11.

I have been recently taking lessons from Mr Gilbert so I -HAD- to have one of these and I absolutely love it. It sort of feels somewhat like a tube screamer but with some fuzz going on it's just a little different. Also it has a really great level of dynamics which is the key to "achieving purr" so the harder you physically play the more grind you get and it's just a nice texture. Highly recomment especially for you Mr Big fans!

Wow!!!

I saw this pedal and spoke to my sales engineer. I couldn't be happier! It was affordable, built well, and makes me feel like I am a rockstar!

The settings can be adjusted to have light gain all the way up to some distortion. I couldn't be happier!

Thanks to Tim for encouraging me to try something new!

Great pedal, great price !

Gets that 70's/80's classic rock sound with the gain turned up to 2-3. You can get a nice crunch without losing note definition. You can also get a nice boosted clean tone by rolling back the gain a little and turning up the level. The EQ controls really help dial in your sound for each guitar you use.
Pedal is very quiet and built solid. And costs at least half the price of similar pedals
Music background: Been playing guitar since the 80’s
