Time-honored Bass Soul with a Modern Edge

Across myriad studios, styles, sub-genres, and spaces, Marcus Miller’s iconic writing, playing, and production have enriched numerous creative endeavors. Sire’s Marcus Miller M6 marries the namesake tone titan’s transcendent experiences with the modern player’s emphasis on flexible yet focused technicality. The mélange of multi-scale possibilities emerging from this headless haymaker is virtually limitless, with premium tonewoods and galvanizing sonic circuitry complementing a lightweight design and high-speed playability, leaving Sweetwater’s bassists thoroughly impressed by Sire’s headless debut. From its rolled fretboard edges and a 5-piece neck build to the onboard Heritage-3 system and Pure-H Revolution humbuckers, the Sire Marcus Miller M6 5-string Headless bass masterfully weaves Marcus’s ineffable groove with the contemporary need for voltaic versatility.

Engineered for maximum tone and minimum weight

Blending ergonomics with sonic depth, the Sire Marcus Miller M6 outfits players with a ferocious foundation, spanning a mahogany body, rosewood fingerboard, and 5-piece maple-mahogany neck. As the headless axe’s anchor, mahogany is tonally prized for its prismatic overtones, shimmering harmonics, and expansive dynamic range, remaining reactive and responsive to the nuances of any player’s style. Meanwhile, the maple aspects of the neck introduce a mix of spectrum-spanning heat, smoldering brilliance, and natural note-separating capabilities that keep every string voiced with precision. The rosewood fretboard encapsulates your sound in a crystalline veneer, supplying rich presence that doesn’t get muddy.

High-powered pliability and earth-shattering electronics

To handle the demands of its namesake, Sire equipped the Marcus Miller M6 Headless with its own Marcus Pure-H Revolution humbucker set. With their robust, full-bodied sound, these pickups handle everything from forceful low-end punch to funky slaps and pops with ease. When paired with the Marcus Miller Heritage-3 preamp, your tonal possibilities become virtually limitless. You get complete coverage across all genres by simply turning the knobs to dial in your desired tone, something Sweetwater bassists thoroughly appreciate when juggling multiple projects. Another exceptional feature is the Marcus Miller M6's onboard toggle switches — one to go from active to passive modes on the fly, and another pair for switching between series, split, and parallel modes — a sweet cherry on the top of this impressive set of electronics.

Sire Marcus Miller M6 5-string Headless Features:

  • Sire’s debut headless bass designed for balanced, lightweight, and ergonomic performances
  • Mahogany body tethers your tones to blossoming harmonics, robust overtones, and reactive high-headroom playing
  • 5-piece maple and mahogany neck introduces fantastic note-separating voicing and smoldering full-spectrum brilliance
  • Rosewood fingerboard imbues your tones with a shimmering, crystalline veneer and plenty of presence
  • 2 Marcus Pure-H Revolution humbuckers paired with Heritage-3 preamp deliver the full spectrum of bass tone
  • Onboard toggles for switching from passive to active modes, as well as series, split, and parallel pickup configurations
  • Rolled fingerboard edges and C-shape neck maximize control, comfort, and accessibility across the 33–35-in. multi-scale design and 16-in. fretboard radius

Reviews

Truly Amazing
Got mine in the mail today. So I haven't gigged it yet. I have played it nonstop for the last 3 hours though. WOW! What a bass! The neck is probably the fastest five string neck I've ever played. The fretwork is immaculate. I got used to the multi-scale in about 15 minutes. And it's so light. Sweetwater said mine weighed 7 pound 7 ounces which will make long gigs much nicer for me. The versatility in the tones is virtually unlimited. Between the passive/active and series/parallel/single coil modes, you can sound like anything you can imagine. Perhaps the most impressive part of the output is that it stays pretty much the same level no matter what you set your preamp and pickups to. The sandblasted matte black is just gorgeous and pictures don't do it justice. I particularly like how this headless bass doesn't look like it was trying to look super futuristic. It's just a modern bass that happens to have no headstock. It's hard to believe you can get this much instrument at this price point. If you're looking for a headless bass, this is easily the best one I've played and in my opinion better than headless basses that cost much more. My sales engineer, Tomir, was fantastic and helped me get the exact one I wanted and kept me updated through the pre-order process. Sweetwater never fails to deliver great customer service.
Impressed
First time buying from Sweetwater. I wasn't sure about buying something without trying it to see if I like it first. I took the chance and was thoroughly Impressed with both the instrument and Sweetwater. Had an issue with the bass when I first got it...it was a known issue with these basses with the tuners being hard to turn with sweaty hands. Barry Mork called to ask how I was enjoying the bass and did I need help with anything, I told him the issue and he immediately got hold of the manufacturer who in turn sent out replacement tuner pegs a few days later. Now the bass is 100% and one of my favorites. Thanks to Barry...Sweetwater and Sire for making this a great experience. They now have my future business. This is Music done right!

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I had a gig over the weekend, and this bass performed at a high level! Lite weight. Deep, rounded sound. TIGHT! Broke through everything! The sound is amazing! I would recommend this instrument to anyone who is looking for a top-notch bass! I own 15 bass guitars. I own Fbass, Modulus (3) of them, Sukup (2) and many others as well. All costing 5 times more than this bass guitar. And I'm telling you. This is going to be my number 1 bass. Lite weight and kills every F'n time! I highly recommend this instrument! Thank you, Sweetwater, for the immediate delivery. Thank you so much. Jairus Odums

A Great Bass With 1 Easily Fixed Flaw
This bass looks, feels, and sounds great. I don't love the strings that came on it, but I've already changed those.

The only problem with the out-of-the-box experience with this bass is that the tuner control knobs are difficult to grip. However, Sire has a ready solution and will replace them when asked.

Other than that issue, it's difficult to imagine ways they could make it better, unless it was free.

The Sweetwater purchasing experience was exactly as one would expect...first rate.

Black Satin M6
First, a big thank you to Chris Leonard at Sweetwater for the excellent service. I've been eyeing the Sire M6 since it was announced, and after watching countless YouTube reviews, I decided to give it a try.
Out of the box, the setup was perfect and the playability was spot on. However, I'll admit my initial impressions were mixed; I likely set my expectations a bit too high for this price point. Unplugged, the bass felt somewhat dead with very little resonance—though, coming from a P-bass, I acknowledge that is not a fair comparison.
The Black Satin looks great. However, the body felt like it was made of plastic and I personally just didn't like the feel.
The instrument truly shines once plugged in. Running it through a Mark Bass amp and a Fender Rumble 800, the tone was excellent right away. It delivers a punchy, round sound with impressive versatility. There are quite a few tonal options in the knobs.
As for the build, the neck is comfortable enough, though the "sharp spot" at the bottom of the neck mentioned by other reviewers is definitely there—be careful sliding down to fast! My biggest grievance is the tuners. They are as problematic as the reviews suggested, which is a shame because they overshadow an otherwise great instrument. I hope Sire makes fixing this a priority soon.
I returned the bass and am grateful to Sweetwater for the opportunity to try it out. The Ibanez EHB1005SMS was a better choice for me.
