Crafted in Collaboration with Studio Legend Manny Marroquin

Designed in collaboration with Grammy-winning producer and mixer Manny Marroquin, Audeze’s MM-500 headphones are purpose-built to excel in high-level mixing applications. These open-back headphones utilize Audeze’s cutting-edge planar magnetic drivers to supply superb sonic accuracy no matter where you are, removing the room entirely from the equation like a top-end set of nearfield monitors. You’ll enjoy comfortable listening during even the longest sessions thanks to the MM-500’s lightweight build (lighter even than Audeze’s flagship LCD-X model) and extra-plush premium leather earpads, while the adjustable spring steel headband and machined aluminum structure come crafted to the very highest standards of production. Moreover, the MM-500’s 18-ohm impedance and 100dB sensitivity allow you to drive these headphones with a versatile range of playback devices. Primed to deliver professional-grade mixing results anytime, anywhere, Audeze’s MM-500 headphones are a must-have for any aspiring mixer after the most accurate over-ear sound possible.

Cutting-edge driver technology

The MM-500 brandishes patented Audeze technologies, including Uniforce diaphragms, Fazor waveguides, and powerful neodymium magnets, to offer professional engineers headphones with incredible detail and accuracy. The frequency response of the MM-500’s planar magnetic transducers is simply superb, stretching from a cavernous 5Hz all the way to a stratospheric 50kHz. Even the most discerning listeners here at Sweetwater are blown away by the MM-500’s Fazor waveguides, which exhibit a supremely coherent phase response, inaudible distortion at all output levels, and imaging with pinpoint accuracy. Furthermore, Audeze’s patented ultra-thin Uniforce voice coil exhibits a detailed sound of unparalleled precision, along with accurately controlled bass response. Finally, an 18-ohm impedance and 100dB sensitivity enable you to drive these headphones with any interface, console, or recording device you encounter.

Studio-proven sound from Manny Marroquin

Boasting a double-digit collection of Grammy awards in his trophy case, Manny Marroquin is one of modern music’s true production and mixing masters. His extensive list of musical credits reads like a roll call of the 21st century’s biggest artists and acts, including revered musicians like Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Kanye West, Post Malone, Bruno Mars, John Mayer, and countless others. Thus, it’s no small compliment that Manny chose Audeze to develop his signature series of mix-ready headphones, and his signature is no mere rubber stamp — Manny mixed the chart-topping, Grammy-winning album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar using his signature Audeze MM-500 headphones. In fact, Audeze’s MM-500 headphones are so crucial to Manny’s creative process that he readily admits, “I rely on my MM-500 as much as the main monitors in my studio.”

Reviews

Great for audio engineering
Sound Quality - Extremely revealing and almost flat. There's a small dip in the low mids and a small boost in the sub bass. After calibrating my brain eq with reference tracks the headphones became transparent. Sub bass extension is awesome, I can now confidently mix sub bass. Instrument separation is good, imaging is good, transient response is good. I have occasional access to a mastering studio and compared these headphones to the studio's Genelec system and was surprised at how close these headphones were. Obviously they weren't as good but pretty close. If you're not doing audio engineering and looking for headphones for listening pleasure then you should probably look elsewhere unless you want to hear every subtle flaw in the mixes of your favorite songs.

Build Quality - Chefs kiss. These headphones could survive nuclear war.

Comfort - Very good, clamping force is a bit firm out of the box but with stretching and regular use it gets better. No problems with marathon mixing sessions.

They are also very easy to drive. My MOTU M6 interface is plenty powerful enough. It starts to get painfully loud at bit over half volume. Even my phone can drive them reasonably well.
Mixing Headphones that are Flat and True

To find a pair of mixing headphones better than these Audeze MM-500, you will have to spend between $ USD.

My studio mixing environment is very good, I have been under contract and producing music and audio content for Disney Publishing Worldwide since 2008, and In all that time I've only been asked for two remixes.

But now I am also doing a lot of producing and mixing work virtually with clients via SessionWIre, and we're not hearing the same thing.

Based on recommendations from several other producer/mixers I respect, I am now using the Audeze MM-500 headphones - on both sides of the virtual mix - with stunning results.

I am not saying you shouldn't tune your room to the best possible standards, but with these headphones, you can have a perfectly tuned, flat and true, mixing environment under any circumstances.
